11 Additional Summer Services Educational Opportunities through Adult/Community Education Centers for High School Students Students in grades 9 12 may enroll in a variety of educational, recreational, cultural, social and enrichment courses, offered through the Adult/Community Education Centers, including course credit recovery and promotion/graduation, as appropriate. Summer Services for Selected Students Voluntary Pre-kindergarten (VPK) Alternative Education Programs/Centers Migrant Education Program Affiliating Agreements with Colleges/Universities and Community-based Organizations National Academy Foundation (NAF) Summer Internship Program 11

12 isummer: Learning On-the-Go Access to individualized educational digital tools via personal devices and partnerships with libraries and other communitybased organizations with internet connectivity For the third year in a row, the District will provide links to online applications, tools, and games that students can access 24/7, via the Student Portal, from anyplace with internet connectivity. These resources will allow students in grades K-12 to practice and apply what they learned during the school year, and to explore new concepts. Content will include district-licensed applications, as well as new resources made available exclusively for Summer

13 isummer: Learning On-the-Go E-Learning: Mobile Device Summer Checkout Elementary Laptop Project Approximately 1000 rising 5 th graders at nine targeted elementary schools will be eligible to checkout laptops for summer learning and the continued use of i-ready Reading and Mathematics software. These students will also be able to make use of the web-based resources available, via the Student Portal. Internet access will be provided as required 13

14 isummer: Learning On-the-Go E-Learning: Mobile Device Summer Checkout Summer Prep Programs Senior high school students who passed the Algebra 1 course, but failed the Algebra 1 End of Course (EOC) assessment, will be eligible to checkout tablet computers from their schools in order to participate in online Algebra 1 EOC assessment prep modules. Rising seniors who failed the FCAT reading assessment will be eligible to checkout tablet computers from their schools to access online assessment prep resources in preparation for the next administration of the ACT, in order to receive a concordant score and fulfill the graduation requirement. Adult education centers located at senior high schools will open their media centers for students in need of Internet access. 14

16 2014 Summer Staff Allocations Communication will be sent via to Region Directors on 5/22 The Communication will include the following: The 2014 Summer School Title I Allocation Chart The Summer Services Staffing Rosters Summer Services Eligibility Memorandum from the Office of Human Capital Management Region Directors will be asked to share the 2014 summer school staff allocation information with principals of Open Instructional Summer Centers in their region. 16

17 2014 Summer Staff Allocations Instructional Summer Center Principals will: Complete the Summer Services Staffing Rosters Identify (on the staffing roster) two teachers who may be hired to serve as substitute teachers Submit the completed rosters to their Region Office Summer School Region Directors will: Review the Staffing Rosters Submit via to on or before May 28, 2014, the approved Staffing Rosters received from all Open Instructional Summer Centers in their region 17
