Allen 110 Harbor Point Drive 2016 Cherryville, NC (c) The Cleveland Soil & Water District Supervisor Board (COUNTY WIDE ELECTED OFFICES) The Cleveland Soil and Water Conservation District is a governmental subdivision of the State of North Carolina organized to protect and to promote conservation of the soil, water, and other natural resources located within the District s boundary. The District s boundary coincides with Cleveland County. The Cleveland Soil and Water Conservation District is governed by a five member Board of Supervisors of which three are publicly elected and two are appointed. Elected members are voted on in the General Election along with other public officials. Two supervisors are appointed by the state Soil and Water Conservation Commission. All supervisors serve staggered four-year terms. The District supervisors are non-salaried public officials. Meetings of the Board of Supervisors are open to the public and are held the second Thursday of each month at 5:15 p.m. The Cleveland Soil and Water Conservation District receives direct support from all levels of government. The County of Cleveland, North Carolina Division of Soil and Water Conservation and the U. S. Natural Resources Conservation Service all provide funding and resources for staff, operating expenses, and program activities. Mission Statement The Cleveland Soil and Water Conservation District s mission is to improve the quality of life of the citizens and future generations of Cleveland County, the state of North Carolina, and the Nation by protecting and improving the natural resources and environment within its boundaries and by supporting conservation activities across the state and nation. The Cleveland Soil and Water Conservation District will utilize the resources of local, state, and federal governments and private organizations to install
4 conservation practices on the land and to create a conservation awareness and stewardship ethic among the population.
