Pull the pulse cable through one of the pass-throughs in the cable gland. Leave enough cable on both sides to reach the terminal connections. 3. Strip 50mm of outer insulation from one end of the cable. 4. Strip 7mm of insulation from each inside conductor. 5. Repeat steps 3-4 for the other end of the cable. 6. Crimp an insulated 1mm 2 -block fork terminal to each of the two conductors that will connect to the pulse output terminals on the meter. 7. Connect the two conductors to the K and Y (or K and Z) pulse output terminals on the meter. 8. Connect the other end of the conductors to the PULSE1 and PULSE1_COM terminals on the S2 terminal block. 9. Repeat steps 1-8 if connecting to an additional meter pulse output using the PULSE2 and PULSE2_COM terminals on the S2. Meter connections wired in place S2 Terminal Block II. Connect a Modbus device (optional) 1. Measure and cut enough shielded 2-conductor, 1mm 2 (Modbus) cable to go from the S2 terminal block to the RS-485 terminals of the nearest Modbus device. 2. Pull the Modbus cable through one of the pass-throughs in the cable gland. Leave enough cable on both sides to reach the terminal connections. 3. Strip 50mm of outer insulation from one end of the cable. 4. Strip 7mm of insulation from each conductor. 5. Repeat steps 3-4 for the other end of the cable. 6. Connect the two inner conductors to the 485+, 485-, terminals on the S2 terminal block. 7. Connect the shield conductor to the 485_SHIELD terminal on the S2 terminal block. 8. Connect the other end of the cable conductors to the positive (+), negative (-), and SHIELD terminals of the first Modbus device. 9. If using multiple Modbus devices, daisy-chain the Modbus devices. Connecting each of their positive (+), negative (-), and SHIELD terminals together in parallel. Connect only one conductor to each of the terminals on the S2 terminal block. S2 Terminal Block EnerNOC New Zealand Limited 2 Collina Terrace PO Box Thorndon Wellington NZ
7 III. Connect a relay (optional) The relays on the S2 are latching relays. Latching relays require a pulse to physically move the switch from open to closed. Once the switch moves, it stays in that position until a new pulse moves it to the other setting, even if power is removed from the S2. Only a new pulse through the relay can move the switch to a different position. Follow the steps below to connect to the S2 relays. 1. Measure and cut enough 2-conductor or 3-conductor, 1mm 2 cable (relay cable) to go from the S2 terminal block to the terminals of the nearest device connecting to the S2 relay signals. 2. Pull the relay cable through one of the pass-throughs in the cable gland. Leave enough cable on both sides to reach the terminal connections. 3. Strip 50mm of outer insulation from one end of the cable. 4. Strip 7mm of insulation from each conductor. 5. Repeat steps 3-4 for the other end of the cable. 6. Connect the conductors to the appropriate Relay 1 terminals on the S2 terminal block. 7. Connect the other end of the cable conductors to the appropriate devices being connected to the S2 relay signals. 8. Repeat steps 1-7 if making a connection to the second relay (RELAY 2). Terminal block markings deciphered: Terminal Markings: REL1_A REL1_COM REL1_B REL2_A REL2_COM REL2_B Markings Mean: REL1_NO REL1_COM REL1_NC REL2_NO REL2_COM REL2_NC MAXIMUM SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE S2 RELAY SIGNALS: 30 VDC, 2 A maximum, resistive load 24 VDC, 0.5 A maximum, pilot duty 24 VAC, 0.5 A maximum, resistive load 24 VAC, 0.5 A maximum, pilot duty Do not exceed the maximum specifications for the relay signals. All relay signals and any power sources connected to the relay signals must be Class 2 power-limited. EnerNOC New Zealand Limited 2 Collina Terrace PO Box Thorndon Wellington NZ
8 Step Three: Install the Modem and Antenna (Optional Step) Follow the steps below to install the cellular modem and antenna instead of using a LAN connection. 1. Using the supplied two-sided industrial tape or selfadhesive hook-and-loop material, mount the modem to the door of the enclosure. Power the modem Apply power to the modem using the modem's wall-wart power supply. Or, supply power to the modem using a 24V to 12VDC inline converter / regulator. 2. Run a Cat-5 cable between the modem and the S2 LAN connection port. 3. Carefully drill a hole in the bottom of the enclosure to secure the supplied modem antenna. The hole should only be slightly larger than the antenna cable s bulkhead connector. 4. Remove the nut and lock washer from the bulkhead connector. Apply silicone sealant around the base of the bulkhead connector being careful to keep the sealant out of the inside of the connector. 5. Push the bulkhead connector through the new hole in the bottom of the enclosure. Secure the bulkhead connector in place with the lock washer and nut. 6. Attach the antenna cable to the modem s antenna jack. Attach the antenna to the bulkhead connector. 7. Plug the Cat-5 cable into the modem and S2. Follow the steps below to install the power converter. 1. Attach the input side leads to the 24VAC_1 and 24VAC_2 connectors on the S2 terminal block. 2.
