6 GCSE History The course structure: 25% Coursework, 75% examination Coursework to be completed by half term There are 3 exams at the end of Yr 11: War and the Transformation of British Society, The USA, The Cold War Support available: Thursday: 8:00-8:30- The Lecture Theatre- The USA Wednesday: 15:20-16:15 (8 wk rotation): G25= War and Transformation G26= USA G27= Coursework/ Cold War Thursday: 15:20-16:15- G24= Coursework support/ Cold War What can students do at home? Homework & Mastery Tests Learn the structure to answer exam questions. Learn which connectives to use to show explanation. Answer past questions/ plan answers and give them to their teachers. Read the revision guides and use them to make: mind maps, flash cards, diagrams, story boards, post-it-notes, timelines, Trivial Pursuit etc BBC Bitesize: Videos, quizzes, information

7 GCSE Geography 25% Coursework, 75% exam (2 papers) Energy Coursework should be completed by October half term Fieldwork must be completed by end of November After school sessions running Tuesday and Thursday until coursework is completed Revision sessions to be organised in spring term

8 GCSE Philosophy and Ethics 100% Exam - 2 exam papers: Religion and Morality- religious and moral responses to subjects such as IVF, cloning, drug use, treatment of the elderly, and crime and punishment Ultimate questions - looking at BIG questions such as evil and suffering, life after death, miracles, and the arguments for the existence of God Additional support will be offered through revision sessions

10 CAREERS ADVICE AND GUIDANCE Our mission is to ensure that every student can access the university or career of their choice and so our goal is for every Neale-Wade Academy student to: Make exceptional academic progress opening up options available to them at Post 16 and Post 18 Develop good habits and skills, such as communication, creativity, problem solving, digital literacy and resilience in the face of challenge Have access and exposure to a range of opportunities which help build a picture of what they want their future to look like Make ambitious and informed decisions about their pathways

16 VOCATIONAL COURSES 1 in 4 students entering university do so with a BTEC The most popular route is students studying a combination of BTECs and A levels Vocational qualifications also prepare students for work by providing good employment prospects

17 APPRENTICESHIPS Allow you to earn while you work ( 3.30 per hour between 16 and 18) You gain a national, recognised qualification at either Level 2 (intermediate) or level 3 (advanced) You can move on to a level 4 (higher) apprenticeship and even qualifications equivalent to a degree Apply directly through an employer or learning provider and

18 HOW TO APPLY You will apply to Post 16 Colleges through UCAS Progress You can also apply for apprenticeships You will have to write a personal statement You will have to describe your strengths and weaknesses and why you have chosen your pathway We will support you with this with workshops and after school sessions
