Electrical safety services BUSSMANN Protecting what matters most SERIES
Eaton s Bussmann Division offers you Technical expertise Our team of application engineers and sales engineers are dedicated to helping you protect your system, from specification to delivery. Enhanced safety product and services For more than 100 years, Eaton s Bussmann Division has protected equipment and businesses from electrical hazards. As the experts in safe system design and application, our products are UL Listed or Recognized for enhanced safety and many products offer IP20 finger-safe protection. Code compliance solutions Whether selective coordination must be met for a place of public assembly or coordination for a healthcare facility, we have the solutions and technical expertise to help you achieve compliance easily. Is your electrical system safe? In order to meet ever increasing requirements of NFPA 70E, NFPA 70 (NEC ) and OSHA for a safe workplace, Eaton offers a wide variety of services designed to meet these stringent standards. Properly maintained equipment and a safe, reliable electrical system are essential in providing a safe workplace, reducing downtime and repair cost, avoiding costly citations, minimizing exposure to potential liability. Our team of engineers are well equipped to perform an Arc Flash Compliance Program and offer solutions to mitigate potential hazards that can have a negative impact on electrical safety in your workplace and your bottom line. OSHA can use NFPA 70E to establish whether or not the employer is providing a safe work place as required in Section 5(a)(1) typically referred to as the General Duty Clause. OSHA provided the following interpretation in a letter dated July 25, 2003: Industry consensus standards, such as NFPA 70E, can be used by employers as guides to making the assessments and equipment selections required by the standard. Similarly, in OSHA enforcement actions, they can be used as evidence of whether the employer acted reasonably to insure a safe workplace. On August 13, 2007, OSHA further stated, that The agency has determined that electrical hazards in the workplace pose a significant risk of injury or death to employees, and that the requirements in the revised standard, which draw heavily from the 2000 edition of the NFPA 70E and 2002 edition of the NEC, are reasonably necessary to provide protection from these hazards. Although NFPA 70E is not law until adopted by a regulatory body, it is clear that NFPA 70E can be used in enforcement actions by OSHA and may also be used in a similar way in civil actions. By complying with these standards, an employer can minimize their risks and potential costs while providing a safer workplace for their employees. Eaton has the expertise, resources and experience to meet these requirements. Visit Eaton.com/bussmannseries for more information.
Arc flash compliance program Eaton s Bussmann Division offers an Arc Flash Compliance Program that provides a comprehensive safety solution and helps ensure that you minimize arc flash hazards for a safer work environment. Working together with you, the Bussmann team of experts identifies and recommends remedial action for deficiencies in the power system, enhances personnel safety and helps reduce risk. Arc flash studies are also a critical component of our safety analysis. Additionally, our arc flash safety training provides you with information on the potential hazards of working around energized equipment, the standards that address these hazards, and the safe work practices and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) necessary to protect workers from these hazards. Engineering innovation: Progressive solutions for today s power system The following six key elements are provided through the Arc Flash Compliance Program. System one-line diagram Facility safety starts with an accurate one-line diagram of all power sources, switching capabilities and other circuit parameters. Short-circuit current analysis State-of-the-art engineering software is used for a fault current analysis to determine, at designated points, the available fault current levels. Arc flash hazard analysis With short-circuit current and overcurrent protective device time-current characteristics studies performed, an arc flash hazard assessment can be made for each designated point in the system. Arc flash hazard label production Proper equipment warning labels to ensure compliance with codes and safety standards by marking key safety parameters. Overcurrent protective device analysis Evaluating operating characteristics of overcurrent protective devices, including relays, fuses and circuit breakers determines how they interact and the level of protection they provide. Electrical safety training Our experts provide training to help improve electrical safety and meet regulatory requirements. Your electrical workers are trained on electrical safety and awareness, regulations, electrical hazards and how to properly follow arc flash warning label information.
Advance your electrical safety Eaton s comprehensive electrical safety services round out the offering to provide the solutions that best meet your needs. A properly designed and operated power system can save you money and increase productivity while meeting the growing and changing demands or your business. The studies, audits, predictive maintenance solutions and training listed below can be added to any Arc Flash Compliance Program to further advance the safety of your electrical system. Power system studies Power system studies offer the most focused and systematic approaches available to enhance power system performance and identify inefficient system designs, incorrect equipment selection and potential problems between your equipment and the rest of the power system. Power quality and reliability studies We use power quality and reliability studies to evaluate the safety levels and the reliability of your electrical infrastructure. These studies usually include harmonic, grounding, voltage flicker and surge suppression analyses to ensure the power quality of sensitive circuits. Selective coordination review To maximize the efficiency of your facility, we evaluate portions of new electrical power systems to determine compliance with selective coordination requirements as mandated by the 2014 NEC. Based on manufacturers test data and published overcurrent protection characteristics, recommended modifications to the system design are outlined to achieve complete coordination up to the available fault current. Power chain audits Through analysis, monitoring and equipment audits, Eaton s experienced engineers uncover existing problems and develop strategies to prevent future system distress. We have the expertise to identify design weaknesses, determine the reason that something failed to operate properly, find means of resolving system safety or performance and implement improvements. Maintenance and support services In the event that you need OEM equipment serviced and upgraded, Eaton has the expertise and the ability to work on virtually all manufacturers equipment. With an outstanding electronic library of OEM user and maintenance manuals, we can deliver a comprehensive maintenance program to your equipment every time. Operational and maintenance training Eaton offers both standardized and customized training programs that reflect the full range of electrical system engineering disciplines, including distribution systems analysis, power quality and grounding, arc flash safety and electrical equipment maintenance. Taught by an experienced instructor at one of our training facilities or on-site, these courses involve classroom instruction complemented by hands-on exercises that reflect real workplace situations. Additionally, many courses award CEU credits for an additional charge.
Leadership in circuit protection When it comes to circuit protection, only Eaton can provide a complete portfolio of solutions for virtually every application. Eaton delivers: Diverse solutions to mitigate arc flash energy and help protect personnel and equipment. Products and tools to easily achieve short-circuit current ratings requirements. The widest range of circuit breaker/circuit breaker, circuit breaker/ fuse and fuse/fuse selective coordination combinations. An unmatched circuit protection portfolio and custom design capabilities to meet local and national code, and engineering challenges. Our focus is on delivering the right solution for the application. But, decision makers demand more than just innovative products. They turn to Eaton for an unwavering commitment to personal support that makes customer success a top priority. Problem solver Challenge One of the world s largest entertainment park corporations reached out to the Bussmann series product team of experts to conduct an Arc Flash Compliance Program that included two of their parks. The customer was in need of an arc flash hazard analysis for each park, along with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) recommendations and equipment labels. After speaking with our team, the customer added an additional 13 parks to the program and requested that the program be completed as quickly as possible. Our team was able to not only perform the services for all 15 parks in less than 4 months, but also meet the budget demands. The customer can now rest assured that their parks meet arc flash requirements for a safe work environment.
