4 4 OpenTopic Installation & Setup Installation & Setup This article answers the most frequently asked questions regarding installing Audials Radiotracker. Questions & Answers Regarding Installation Can I install and use my product on several computers? Yes, you can install your product on several computers, even with only one license key. Restriction: It is not possible to run your product with the same license key on several computers at the same time. Where can I download older product versions? You can find all older versions linked for download in the support forum: Version History. What are the system requirements? The system requirements are listed on the product download page. Installation from CD This article describes what you should take into account when installing Audials Radiotracker from the CD. A CD installation is required if you acquired Audials Radiotracker as a product box with the installation CD. Before you start installing: Please ensure that your computer is connected to the Internet. Disable your firewall and anti-virus programs during the installation. Only by doing so can the installation be completed, as the installation assistant automatically downloads the latest version of the software. To install Audials Radiotracker from the CD 1. Insert the installation CD. The installation starts automatically. 2. Follow the instructions through the installation procedure. Note: To install the product, you must enter the activation key. The activation key is printed on the case of the installation CD.
5 OpenTopic Installation & Setup 5 As soon as the installation is complete, Audials Radiotracker starts up and can be used immediately. Important: Please save the installation CD and activation key in a secure location. If you should have to reinstall, you will require both. Audials Radiotracker USB Version You can install Audials Radiotracker to a USB device, e.g. a USB stick, a USB hard disk or a mobile phone. This way, you can take Audials Radiotracker with you wherever you go. Audials Radiotracker USB stores all its working data on that USB device. Simply connect the USB device to any Windows PC, e.g. your friend's computer or your computer at work. Audials Radiotracker USB starts automatically and works without having to actually install the software on that computer. Audials Radiotracker USB installation requirements You need at least 400 MB of free disk space on the USB device to install Audials Radiotracker. 1 GB free disk space is recommended. USB 1.1 or later USB device formatted with the FAT32 file system PC with Windows operating system Installing Audials Radiotracker to a USB device The regular product setup contains an option to install Audials Radiotracker to a USB device. 1. Download the setup file. 2. Connect the USB device to your computer. 3. Open the download folder. Double-click the symbol of the setup file Audials_RadioTracker-Setup.exe to launch the installation procedure. 4. In step "Setup is ready to install - Choose installation type", select USB and choose your USB device from the list of connected devices. 5. click Next >. Follow the instructions through the installation procedure. This may take a few minutes. Please wait. 6. When Setup is complete, select Launch installed product now and click Finish. Audials Radiotracker USB starts up, ready to work. Notice the small symbol as part of the product logo which indicates you are running Audials Radiotracker USB. 6 6 OpenTopic Installation & Setup Working with Audials Radiotracker USB To run the USB version on a computer: Plugin your USB device to the computer. Audials Radiotracker starts automatically. Note: Windows 7 users: Open the device folder and excute StartAudials Radiotracker.exe manually. Notice the small symbol as part of the product logo which indicates you are running Audials Radiotracker USB. Note: Do not disconnect the USB device during installation and execution of the USB version. The first time you run the USB version with a computer, a driver setup may be necessary. It runs automatically. Follow the given instructions. Uninstalling Audials Radiotracker USB Audials Radiotracker USB stores all its working data on a USB device. However, when you connect that USB device to a computer to run Audials Radiotracker USB, some additional information needs to be stored on the computer, e.g. drivers and start menu and desktop shortcuts for convenience. What to uninstall Uninstall Audials Radiotracker from USB device Remove all traces and information left on a computer after using Audials Radiotracker USB How to uninstall To remove Audials Radiotracker USB from a USB device, simply delete all the files from the device using e.g. Windows File Explorer. Open the Audials Radiotracker start menu entry and click Help and Support > Clean Audials Radiotracker USB off the computer. Questions and Answers for Audials Radiotracker USB I already have Audials Radiotracker installed on my computer. Can I install on a USB device, too? Yes, you can install on USB anytime and on as many devices as you want. Where does Audials Radiotracker USB store my new music and videos? All content which is recorded or converted with Audials Radiotracker is saved to the USB device.
7 OpenTopic Installation & Setup 7 Can I run the USB version on the USB device (e.g. my mobile phone) itsself, without connecting the device to a computer? No, that is not possible. Audials Radiotracker USB runs very slow. What gives? The performance of the USB version strongly depends on the speed of your USB connection and USB device. It is recommended to use USB 1.1 or later. If Audials Radiotracker takes long to start or reacts slowly, also try working with a different USB cable or device. How should I best format my USB stick? We recommend to format the device with the FAT32 file system.

Overview of Audials Radiotracker This article gives an overview about the main user interface of Audials Radiotracker. 1. Audials Radiotracker is organized in views. Switch views to carry out individual tasks. Restriction: Audials Radiotracker does not feature all the views shown in Figure 1: Main user interface of an Audials product (Audials One Platinum). on page 8, but the basic interface structure is the same. 2. Each view provides information for and control over specific tasks. You can e.g. start or stop recording here. Read more All recorded files appear in the Player. Here, you can listen to and watch your media files. The Player offers you even more options: Create Playlists or export your songs to any external device (e.g. CD Burner). Playing media files 4. Browse and edit additional song and video information, as e.g. cover pictures and lyrics. Or let Audials Radiotracker add additional tag information from the Internet. Tag Your Media Collection 5. This symbol denotes the popularity of a station. The greater the number of bars indicated, the greater the popularity among Audials Radiotracker users. This symbol denotes both ongoing recordings, as well as buttons that can be used to start recording or converting. This symbol denotes stations which are recorded, but their currently playing song will be discarded. This is because the song would be incomplete, since it began playing before recording was started. Yellow arrow The station will enter normal recording state as soon as a new song begins. Note: If the yellow arrow even after a longer recording won't turn green the station might be unsuitable for recordings with automatic song cutting feature. Anyhow you have the opportunity to record this station continously. Later you may edit your continuous recordings to cut the songs manually. Empty green arrow This symbol denotes stations that are not suitable for recordings with automatic song cutting features. Anyhow you have the opportunity to record these stations continuously. Recording a specific station This article explains how to record an internet radio station of your choice. To record an internet radio station 1. Switch to the Radio view located on the left side of the Audials Radiotracker window. 2. Enter the station name into the search box. 3. From the list of search results, select the station you would like to record.

Audials Radiotracker automatically starts to play back the station (see Figure 3: Detail from the Radio view on page 17). 4. Click Record selected. Audials Radiotracker starts recording the station. After a few minutes, Audials Radiotracker finishes recording the first songs. All recorded files appear in the Player. Tip: You can repeat steps 2 on page 16 to 4 on page 17 for any number of stations. This way, you can record an arbitrary set of stations of your choice. The station has just been added to the favorite list. The station is played back. You can now start recording the station. Figure 3: Detail from the Radio view Automatic recording of multiple stations Choose a genre and let Audials Radiotracker automatically choose stations to record. To automatically have music recorded 1. Switch to the Radio view in the navigation pane located on the left side of the Audials Radiotracker window. 2. Select a genre from above (e.g. Pop) for automatic mass recordings. 3. Click Start mass recording. Audials Radiotracker selects popular stations that play the specified genre, and starts recording. 4. Optional: Select the maximum amount of stations that should be recorded simultaneously from below the list of station (number of stations or bandwidth). Note: Other recordings currently running could mean that your specified station limit has already reached or that it has been exceeded.then no other additional recordings will be made. In this case, please increase the station limit. After a few minutes, Audials Radiotracker finishes recording the first songs. All recorded files appear in the Player.
18 18 OpenTopic Radio: Getting music from internet radio stations Live listening to internet radio Tune in to stations without recording anything: 1. Switch to the Radio view in the navigation pane located on the left side of the Audials window. 2. Select a station from the list. 3. Click. Recording the song you're just listening to In case the station your are listening to plays a song you would like to get, simply select the station and click Record selected to record the song. Tip: Audials Radiotracker then records that song right from its beginning, even if it has been playing for a while. Save songs from the song history This article describes how to save songs from the song history. Here is how the song history works: No more than the last 10 songs played are saved in the song history. The song history only works for stations that are indicated as being suitable for recording. The history button will be visible as soon as the first song has been played without interruption. To save songs from the song history 1. Listen to a radio station as usual. The history button will be visible after the first song has been played completely. 2. Click the history button under the name of the station you listened to. 3. Click the song you would like to save. The song is saved and appears in the playlist after a few seconds. Open the song history list to save recently played songs. Switch to the Radio view and click Stations, to open the Manage Stations dialog. Functions for managing stations The Manage Stations dialog provides you with many practical functions that could be useful when dealing with radio stations. For example, you can: record stations add stations to your favorites block stations, so that they will no longer be used for recordings open the station's website locate radio stations according to specific criteria create scheduled recordings with the recording timer Symbols used and their meaning Table 8: Symbols used for Internet radio stations. Locate stations according to criteria This article describes how you can locate radio station by specifying selection criteria (e.g. quality and genre). To locate radio stations using criteria 1. Switch to the Radio view in the navigation pane located on the left side of the Audials window and click Stations to open up the Manage Stations dialog. 2. Specify the desired critera (country, format, quality, genre). On the right-hand side, is a list of stations that match your specifications. 3. Sort the station list to the right via station characteristics (Country, License, Format, Bitrate, Rank, Cut)
21 OpenTopic Radio: Getting music from internet radio stations 21 Example: locate an American pop station to record Locate, e.g., American stations that play pop in high quality and which can be recorded from using automatic song separation. To do that set the 2 on page 20 following specifications: country: quality: USA good (ca 128kbit/s mp3) genre: In step 3 on page 20, click the Cut heading in the station list. Now you will see stations that are suitable for recording with automatic song separation. pop Tip: If no stations were located that match your criteria, simply change the criteria (e.g. country and quality). Or click Show all stations, to delete your criteria and see all available stations. Manually add radio station This article explains how you add an Internet radio station to the Audials Radiotracker station list. To add a new station to the list of stations, you require the station's streaming URL. Tip: Determining the correct streaming URL can be tricky as it is different than the station's website URL. Winamp users: open the stream with Winamp. Winamp will then display the stream properties. There you will also find the streaming URL. To locate the a station's streaming URL 1. Visit the website of the radio station and open the stream with an external media player. Note: Some stations do not allow their streams to be opened with an external media player. In such a case, please try looking in our forum for assistance. Other Audials users may be able to help you locate the sought-after streaming URL. Always provide the web address of the station that you would like to add. 2. Copy the station's streaming URL from stream properties. Now you can introduce Audials Radiotracker to the streaming URL. 3. In Audials Radiotracker, change to the Radio view and click Stations. 4. Click Load... and select Add station manually. Add the station's streaming URL in the upper field. If a connection is able to be established, the station name will appear in the lower text field.
22 22 OpenTopic Radio: Getting music from internet radio stations 5. Click Add. The station will be added to the list of stations and labeled as a favorite. Scheduled radio recording You can program scheduled recordings to let Audials Radiotracker record a certain radio station at a given time, automatically. With scheduled recordings, you can easily: determine now what radio shows you want to record in the future, without having to remember the date and time of the show, yourself record a station at a given time and for a specific period even when you're away from your computer (Audials Radiotracker must be running) Scheduled recordings at a glance Click to open the Scheduled Recordings dialog. This dialog displays all your past and future scheduled recordings, along with their working status. Tip: Hover the status texts with the mouse pointer to display a tooltip giving details about the status of the recording. Once a scheduled recording has been started, Audials Radiotracker also displays the recorded station in the Radio recording list. Find all your finished scheduled recordings in the Player, ready for playback. Questions and Answers Do I need to let Audials Radiotracker run to make the scheduled recording work? Yes, Audials Radiotracker needs to run to do scheduled radio recordings. Audials Radiotracker displays a warning when you are about to exit the program, but a scheduled recording would start in the near future. What's the difference between a scheduled recording and a recording job? Scheduled recordings have a defined start time and a defined end time. They can begin at any point of time in the future. Recording jobs, on the other hand, can only be defined for already running recordings. Jobs start right-away, and end e.g. after 100 tracks have been recorded. Creating a scheduled radio recording This article explains how to create a new scheduled recording. To create a scheduled recording for one of your favorite stations:
23 OpenTopic Radio: Getting music from internet radio stations Switch to the Radio view in the navigation pane located on the left side of the Audials window and select one of your favorite stations. Click and choose Create scheduled recording Select a recording start and end date and time. Note: When selecting date and time, mind that Audials Radiotracker works with your computer's date and time settings. For stations located in different places on the globe, you may have to take timezone differences into account. Also make sure you computer's clock is not running slow/fast. 3. Optional: Enter a comment for the scheduled recording. Comments can be helpful to remember the purpose of a recording later on. 4. Click OK. You can see your new scheduled recording in the list. Audials Radiotracker will automatically start and finish this recording at the given date and time. Avoiding duplicate media files Recording processes sometimes create several copies of one song in your output folder. You can avoid that by setting filters which are based on the files in your existing collection and on the files already recorded by Audials Radiotracker. Restriction: The duplicate filter settings apply to views Radio and Music wishes, only. To filter out duplicates 1. Go to Options > Filters. 2. Under Filter duplicates, select one of the following settings to avoid duplicate files: Options Only keep best version. All versions with worse quality are deleted! Description Audials Radiotracker will compare the quality of a new recording with the quality of its already existing copy. The copy with inferior quality will be overwritten (or discarded, respectively). Note: Reviewed recordings will never be overwritten or discarded. Instead, an additional copy will be created for these files. If a reviewed version (green check marks) exists: don't record. Otherwise: Only keep best version. All versions with worse quality are deleted! Same as above, but: For existing files you have set reviewed, no additional copy will be created.

25 OpenTopic Music wishes: Getting music wishes fulfilled 25 Music wishes: Getting music wishes fulfilled The Music wishes view fulfills your music wishes. Instead of actively searching for media content yourself, you simply enter your wishes and activate Audials Radiotracker to fulfill them one by one. You can put diverse media content on a wishlist: artists albums individual tracks You can have an arbitrary mixture of such items on a wish list. Note: The more frequently played and the more popular a wish item, the faster it is fulfilled. Symbols used for Wishes Table 9: Symbols used for Wishes. Song wishes for popular artists are generally fulfilled faster than those by unpopular artists. This symbol denotes popular songs in the artist database. Popular song wishes generally take less time to complete than unpopular songs. This symbol denotes artists. Once you have placed an artist in your wishlist, every song from every album by this artist will be recorded.
26 26 OpenTopic Music wishes: Getting music wishes fulfilled Fulfill music wishes This article describes how to use the Music wishes view, in order to receive, for example, all the media files from a specific artist. To fulfill music wishes 1. Switch to the Music wishes view in the navigation pane located on the left side of the Audials window. 2. Click Music wishes to open the Artist Browser. 3. Enter the name of the sought-after artist. Select artist, album or song from the list. Hold the CTRL key to select several artists. 4. Click Wish. The selected item now appears on your wishlist. Repeat steps 3 on page 26 and 4 on page 26 to add additional wishes. 5. Close Artist Browser and click Fulfill. Audials Radiotracker starts by searching for artists on your wishlist. The number of wishes already fulfilled will be displayed below. All files recorded will appear in Player. Note: If an artist or a track is not popular, it will not be played as much on the radio and therefore such a wish takes longer to fulfill. Record artist discography 1. Open the Artist Browser. 2. Enter artist name. 3. Click the name of the artist you are looking for from the recommended search results. 4. Click Wish. All songs by the artist will be recorded. Request specific albums 1. Open the Artist Browser. 2. Enter artist name. 3. Click the name of the artist you are looking for from the recommended search results. 4. Select item in the album list 5. Click Wish. You can place several albums by the same artist or albums from various artists on a list. This lets you use the Music wishes view to easily amass a collection of complete albums.
27 OpenTopic Music wishes: Getting music wishes fulfilled 27 Adding songs to your wishlist that are not located in the artist browser This article describes how you add artists to a wishlist that are not located in the artist database. The artist browser data is updated on a regular basis. However, sometimes it takes awhile for a new album, for example, to appear in the database. The artist database data is used for the recommendation function that assists you with selecting and submitting your music wishes. The wishlist, however, can also be used without this data and also fulfills wishes for songs that are not located in the artist browser. To add songs to your wishlist that are not located in the artist browser 1. Open the artist browser as usual. 2. Enter the complete name of the sought-after song. 3. Select the displayed option (this corresponds to your entry exactly) in the drop-down menu under matching tracks. 4. Click Wish, even if the list of results is empty. The artist or track will now appear on your wishlist. 5. Close the artist browser and click Fulfill. Audials Radiotracker will record your wish as usual. Create a new wishlist This article explains how you create a new wishlist. Note: If you click Fulfill your wishes from the chosen wishlist will be fulfilled. To create a new wishlist 1. Switch to the Music wishes view in the navigation pane located on the left side of the Audials window. 2. Select <Create new>. 3. Name the list and click OK. 4. Click the selection list with the name if your current wishlist (My Wishlist), located right above the list. Click, to add wishes to the new list. Automatically generate wishlists based on a genre This is the easiest way to get music and videos: Let Audials Radiotracker automatically generate wishlists based on your favorite music genre. After only a few clicks, Audials
28 28 OpenTopic Music wishes: Getting music wishes fulfilled Radiotracker scans the web for artists on the generated wishlist, and automatically records all matches. To automatically generate a wishlist: 1. Switch to the Music wishes view in the navigation pane located on the left side of the Audials window. 2. Click By Genre. Tip: The By Genre button is only available in Music wishes start view. In normal view, you can find the feature in the wishlist menu. 3. Choose a genre. 4. Optional: Change the proposed number of wishes and wishlist name. 5. Click Generate. A new wishlist is generated and displayed in the Music wishes view. Click Fulfill to get your wishes fulfilled. Audials Radiotracker starts recording all artists on the generated wishlist.
29 OpenTopic Podcasts 29 Podcasts Podcasts are regular broadcasts on a specific topic, e.g. news, sports, music, etc. Podcast shows are called episodes. This article covers the Podcasts view and its functionalities. The upper list in the Podcasts view shows all subscribed podcasts. The lower list shows all episodes of the selected podcast which are available for download. You can also listen to any of the displayed episodes. Subscribing to a podcast If you subscribe to a podcast, Audials Radiotracker will display its new episodes as soon as they are released. To subscribe to a podcast 1. Switch to the Podcasts view. 2. Click Podcasts. The Podcasts dialog opens. 3. Select a podcast and click Subscribe. 4. Close the Podcasts dialog. You can see all your subscribed podcasts in the podcast list and browse through their episodes. All podcast episodes that finished downloading appear in the Player. Auto-subscribing In addition to the regular subscription, you can also auto-subscribe to a podcast. Regular subscription leaves you the choice which new episodes to record. Auto-subscription, on the contrary, automatically records new podcast episodes.
30 30 OpenTopic Music television Music television With Music television, you can easily access music tv stations playing the latest charts. Watch music television There are two possibilities to add music tv stations to your favorite list for easy access: Click Add top 5 to add the most popular 5 music tv stations to your favorite list. Click Channels to add specific stations from the full channel directory to your favorite list. Simply double-click a station to watch the live stream.
31 OpenTopic Converting Profiles 31 Converting Profiles This article describes how converting profiles can be used. By using converting profiles, you can activate automatic converting of all your recordings specify in which format your recordings should be automatically recorded. make customized settings and then save them as individual converting profiles. Activate a converting profile. Now all of your files will be converted using the selected converting profile right after recording. Choose a conversion profile or create an own individual profile. Figure 5: Choosing a conversion profile Create and manage converting profiles This article describes how to create and edit converting profiles. The pre-configured profiles for playback devices work in most cases. You can, however, edit the default settings and create customized converting profiles, if you so choose. For lots of playback devices, such as Apple products, Blackberrys and many others, Audials Radiotracker offers various converting profiles. You may select one of the options available for your converting profile or create a completely customized profile.
32 32 OpenTopic Converting Profiles Note: Instead of choosing one of the available converting settings, you may completely customize your settings. Just click Create new custom profile... in the profile menu for converting settings. To create an individual converting profile 1. In any view: click to view expanded converting options (expert mode). 2. Click the current setting for audio files. The audio profile menu will open. 3. Choose a pre-configured converting option. 4. Repeat steps 2 on page 32 and 3 on page 32 for the video file settings and click Save. 5. Enter a name for your converting profile and click OK. Your new converting profile is now saved. 6. Optional: Select the check box before configuring to activate your converting profile. Your new converting profile has been activated. Now your files will be recorded using your settings.

Player not only helps you playback your media files, but also helps you create playlists, export media files and edit tags. The Media center The Media center clearly arranges and displays your music and media collection. The Media center also helps you organize your existing music collection and new recordings. It also offers editing features and copies files from your computer to other playback devices or cloud storage services. What you can do with the Media center. 35 OpenTopic The Media center and Playing Media Files 35 Working with playlists Audials Radiotracker works with two kinds of playlists: automatic playlists, as e.g. the playlists containing the newest recorded files your individual playlists, also called user playlists for brevity. The following table lists differences in handling both types of playlists: Automatic playlists Your individual playlists Create Created automatically You can create new lists, anytime Edit - You can add, remove and change individual items on a list, anytime Sort Delete Sortable by criteria, e.g. by age of creation Automatically deleted after a certain while You can order a list by moving tracks up or down You can/must delete lists manually Rename - You can rename lists, anytime Exporting files to external devices Exporting media files can be done within the Player as well as within the Media center view. The Player offers basic export functionality. The Media center view offers more flexibility regarding the import and export of sets of files at once. Click the target device button to export the selected files to an external device (e.g. CD Burner).

Note: Whenever you are browsing your media collection in the media center and, for example, double-click an artist, a quick list will be created with all the songs by that artist. You may then save this list as a playlist, if desired. Sorting playlists By default, the latest recorded files appear at the top of the list in the Player. The Player offers several options for sorting playlists by criteria. Restriction: Only automatic playlists can be sorted. Your individual playlists cannot be sorted by criteria, as this would discard the customized order of the files on the list. Instead, you can change the order of your individual lists by moving tracks up or down. To sort the recorded files e.g. by artist name, alphabetically 1. In the Player, open the Sort menu. Default sorting is: By date recorded (new top). 2. Select By artist (a-z). In the newly sorted list, you have quick access to all recorded media files by one artist. Filtering playlists This article explains how to filter the current playlist to get a better overview of your recorded files. To filter recorded files 1. In the Filter box, type in a filter text, e.g. an artist or song name. Only files containing your text are shown. 2. Click to reset the filter text. Getting more music and videos based on recorded files The Player offers special actions for recorded files. These actions help you to get more music and videos, quickly. Each product view offers specific tasks. Switch to a certain view to show its available tasks.
