2 Camps for Kids 2015 Camper Advocate and Student Nomination Procedures The Camps for Kids Program is offering over 100 nominated Milwaukee Public Schools students full camperships to attend a week-long residential summer camp in Wisconsin. Students are nominated to receive a campership by a MPS staff member at their school who is called the camper advocate. The camper advocate can be a teacher, assistant, parent coordinator, administrator, or any other school staff member. Below is an outline of the nomination/camper Advocate process. Select students to nominate that meet the following criteria: o Boys and girls ages 8-15 years o Family qualifies for one or more of the following program subsidies: FoodShare/SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), Wisconsin Shares Childcare Subsidies, Foster Care (Proof of enrollment/eligibility must be submitted to the camp along with the camp application.) o Has not previously attended residential (overnight) camp through Camps for Kids. Check with the child s parent/guardian to make sure he/she is able to attend camp if selected and that the family is willing to pay the $20.00 commitment fee. o Please note: If you or your school are planning to pay the commitment fee for a student, please wait for confirmation that they have been accepted at a camp. The commitment fee gets paid directly to the camp each child is attending; it does NOT get paid to MPS or Camps for Kids. Send home the nomination form and informational pamphlet, have parent/guardian sign the nomination form and return it to you at school as soon as possible. Camps for Kids information is available in Spanish and Hmong at Return the completed nomination forms to Annie Kubes with Milwaukee Recreation o Fax: o annie@milwaukeerecreation.net o Museum Mail: MPS Recreation OASIS Senior Center Attend one camp orientation meeting with the student you nominated and their parent/guardian. o Camp orientation meetings will be held in the Central Services Auditorium. (5225 W. Vliet) o Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 9:00AM-10:30AM OR Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 6:30PM-8:00PM o Additional information about the orientation will be sent after campers have been selected. o Attendance for campers and parents is mandatory. Attendance for camper advocates is encouraged, but optional and voluntary. This is not a paid in-service. Keep in touch with your camper as the camp week draws near. Be sure they have the things needed for camp, know when and where to meet the bus, etc. o After they have registered with a specific camp, campers will receive a letter from their chosen camp that will include a what to bring to camp letter as well as transportation information. A copy will also be sent to you. If your camper is unable to attend, please be sure that his/her parent or guardian contact the Camps for Kids coordinator as soon as possible so an alternate can be chosen to fill the slot. Thank you in advance for your support of the Camps for Kids program! Please contact Annie Kubes, MPS Recreation, at or annie@milwaukeerecreation.net with questions.
