1 witech Server Not Found - NO GREEN ICON Displayed in System Tray DESCRIPTION: The witech Server is programmed to start when the PC boots. The witech Server utilizes two independent processes: the witech Server.exe and the witech Monitor.exe. These processes require a properly installed Java 1.6 update 21 or higher to properly launch. If the Java installed on the local PC is out of date, incorrectly installed, or corrupted, the witech Server processes cannot launch. When the witech Server does not start, the user will see witech Server NOT found message in the witech Diagnostic Application. Follow the directions listed in the message and check for the witech Server indicator icon in the system tray located on the lower right-hand corner. 1 / 6

2 RESOLUTION: If the witech Server icon still does not display, here are the top 5 reasons the witech Server cannot start: Cause Windows Firewall or antivirus software is blocking the Java SE Binary platform from launching the server. 3 -witech Server Processes 1. Open the witech Server by navigating to All Programs > witech > witech Server 2. Open Task Manager by right-clicking on the Start bar, or pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del and selecting it from the menu. Go to the Processes tab, and click on the "Image Name" heading to alphabetize the list. Confirm that witech_monitor.exe and witech_server.exe are running as shown below. 2. Right-click on the witech Server icon in the system tray and select Restart 3. Watch the processes in Task Manager to confirm if the witech Server attempts to start and then stops. 3 / 6

4 4. Reboot PC. 5. Review the Task Manager processes again to see if the witech Server processes have started as they are designed to start on boot. NOTE: Multiple user accounts in use at the same time can cause the witech Server to not start. Rebooting the PC and only logging into one account afterwards should resolve this issue. If the witech Server does start and the icon is yellow or flashing between red and yellow, your PC firewall or antivirus program is blocking the server processes from starting. Consult with your IT Administrator or a PC professional to temporarily disable the antivirus or to add an exception so the witech Server process can start. In some cases this step may also include the Java troubleshooting steps listed below. Java If the witech Server did not start after reboot, review this section by consulting with your IT Admin or a PC professional to perform the following troubleshooting steps: 1. The witech Diagnostic Application requires a minimum version of Java 1.6 update 21, but the latest release of Java is recommended. To verify what versions of Java are installed on the PC, review the following: For XP users, navigate to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs For Windows 7/Windows 8 users, navigate to Control Panel > Programs and Features. Review the list of Java SE Runtime environments installed. If you see multiple versions of Java installed on the PC, you can run java version in a command prompt window (All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt) as shown below to see the active Java version: 4 / 6

5 3. In some cases, removing all versions of Java installed on the PC and reinstalling the latest release will resolve the witech Server issue. It is recommended that you use Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Programs and Features utility (Windows 7/Windows 8) to remove Java. 4. After removing Java, confirm the Java folder under C:\Program Files or C:\Programs Files (x86) has also been removed. If not, delete Java folder. 5.
