1 Downloading Library ebooks to a Kindle

2 1 Check out a Kindle-compatible ebook in the Sunflower elibrary Go to the library s website at and click on the Sunflower elibrary icon and then click on the Sunflower elibrary banner at the top. Sign in with your 14 digit library card number and your pin number (last 4 of your phone number). Search for a title using Advanced Search in the upper right hand corner.

3 Limit your search to Kindle Book by selecting it from the drop down list under All Formats. Click Search to be shown a list of Kindle-compatible ebooks. Click on the book cover image of the book you would like to check out.

4 Click the Borrow button to the right of the cover image. Click the Download drop down menu next to the cover and select Kindle Book. Please read the notice to the left and then Click Confirm and Download. You will then be taken to Amazon.com.

5 2 Download If you are not already signed into Amazon.com, you will see the screen below; You will be prompted to sign into your Amazon.com/Kindle account (Log in with the Amazon/Kindle account associated with your device, NOT your library account). If you are already logged into your Amazon account, you will see the following screen:

6 From the Deliver to: drop down box, select your Kindle or a device with the Kindle App (such as a PC or ipad which has been registered with Amazon.com) to deliver your ebook. Click Get Library Book. You should receive a confirmation that the ebook has been sent to your device. Connect your Kindle to an active wireless internet connection or to a PC with internet access. Once you are connected, sync your device from the main menu, and the new title(s) should download directly to your Kindle. The Kindle s 3G (cellular) connection cannot be used. Note: some ebooks are not available for over-the-air delivery to Kindle devices or apps. These books will need to be downloaded to a computer then transferred to the Kindle over USB (

7 If the title does not appear on your Kindle, you can resend books, see following instructions from the Manage Your Content & Devices page. Click the link on the confirmation message, or go to Amazon.com Sign into your account and under your account, select Manage Your Content & Devices. Click the Actions button to the right of the title.

8 Click Deliver to my ; select a device from the drop down menu, and click Deliver to resend the book to your Kindle. 3 Early return for Kindle ebooks Note: It s not necessary to return ebook titles; after the checkout period expires, the file is automatically checked back in. A copy of the ebook will remain on your computer and device(s), but it will not open after the checkout period ends. However, you do have the option to return titles early. If you realize that you have checked a title out in error before you download it, you can immediately return the title. If you would like to return it after this step, go to Amazon.com, click on the Sign Into Your Account option and sign in. Click Your Account, click on Manage Your Content & Devices.

9 Click the Actions drop down menu next to the title in your Kindle library. Select Return this book. Click Yes on the subsequent pop-up window. The title will disappear from your device the next time it is synced. More questions can be answered at Amazon s Kindle support site:

10 Optionally Use OverDrive Read OverDrive Read is a new in-browser ebook reader. It is designed to work in the web browser of any mobile, portable or desktop computer, and works just like any ebook reading app without the need to activate or install extra software. Borrow an OverDrive ebook from your library, as outlined earlier in the pages of this document. When you reach the final checkout step, click Read (in your browser).
