4 4300 atalog and K4 Adapters Technical ata Introduction Parker Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) fittings were introduced in the early 1990s to address market requirements for OEM and replacement JIS fittings. These fittings are typically used as hose adapters on equipment designed and/or manufactured in Japan and Korea. Parker JIS fittings are designed with 30 flare, 60 cone connection with BSP and metric threads. The JIS fittings are designed with BSPP and BSPT port ends and three different hose connection ends: (30 flare, BSPP), P4 (60 cone, BSPP) and KA (30 flare, metric, (Komatsu)). JIS fittings using the BSPP port connection are in accordance with the JIS B2351 type O port connection which is commonly used for higher pressure systems. Fig. G1 illustrates this port connection and Table G3 lists port sizes, threads and O-rings used. The BSPT port end connects to either a BSPT/JIS or a BSPP/ JIS port as shown in Fig. G2. The three hose end connections (, P4 and KA) provide the user the flexibility of connecting to the most common hose ends available as listed in Table G1. Threads: The standard JIS products shown in the visual index are manufactured with thread forms listed below: 1. ISO G, JIS B 0202, (BSPP) 2. ISO 7/1, JIS B 0203, (BSPT) Finish: Zinc with Yellow hromate is used on all standard steel products. Application: JIS fittings are utilized as adapters that connect to BSP/JIS ports and to appropriate Parker hose fitting end configurations (i.e., UT, FU, MU, XU and GU). K4 fittings are utilized as adapters with 9, 92, B1, B2, G1 and G2 series hose fitting ends. K4 adpaters can also be used as port connectors as described on page G5. Parker s K4 (60 cone, BSPP) fittings conform to BS5200. These fittings are very similar to the P4 style JIS fittings, but they are not interchangeable. 5 4300 atalog and K4 Adapters Technical ata 60 one JIS and K4 Fittings 60 cone fittings are normally used for connecting to a hose or another mating fitting. They are seldom used with tube. Sealing is achieved by a line contact between the conical surface of the 60 cone seat and a corresponding surface of the mating component. Even though the 60 cone JIS and K4 fittings have the same type of thread and seat angle, they are not identical in other dimensions. Therefore, there are instances when these fittings will not function properly if the components are interchanged. The following will help to distinguish between the two. The JIS 60 cone fittings are made in accordance with JIS B8363 while the K4 fittings are made to British Standard (BS) B5200. As can be seen from the limited dimensional tables below (see Tables G3 and G4), there are some definite differences in dimensions. Those that are more pronounced are: 1) the thread length and 2) the diameter of the 60 chamfer. The undercut section (area between threads and hex body) also has a different feature. The K4 end is designed so it can be used as a port end with the aid of a bonded seal (9T), as shown in Fig. G5. Interchanging components between JIS and K4 adapters can, in some cases, lead to leakage problems, as illustrated in Fig. G6. The combination of the correct components can create an effective seal as illustrated in Fig. G7. K4 adapters are intended to mate with HP s and PF s 9, 92, B1, B2, B4, G1 and G2 hose end configurations. JIS P4 adapters are intended to mate with UT and GU hose end configurations. Fitting screws in too far into the port. Threads are severely nicked. Seals initially but vibrates loose after some time. JIS or K4 End: Nut tightens, still leaks Solution Apply new sealant and re-tighten to specification. Replace fitting and/or component. Port opened up or cracked Replace component. Replace fitting. Replace with a straight thread O-ring port, ISO, JIS or SAE. Verify that the proper components are being utilized. High Temperature apability Metal-to-metal sealing makes JIS and K4 fittings especially useful for low and high temperature applciations. 3. Single Seal Point Parker JIS and K4 fittings have only one seal (between the fitting seat and its mating part). This makes a highly reliable joint that can be easily maintained. 5. Forged Shapes Parker JIS and K4 fittings have no braze joints that could lead to potential leaks.
