1 March 2-6, 2015 March 3, 2014 Greetings from 204! It was great to see so many of you at lunch on Friday! Thanks for taking the time to come to school. The kids LOVE having you here with them. The lunchroom is quieter when you are here. I Love to Read month reading minutes: Our classroom has received the official, Second Grade Reading Minutes Traveling Trophy for three weeks in a row! Keep on reading! Thanks for taking time to ensure your child is reading on a daily basis. Reading Minutes: Starting this week the required number of minutes is moving up to 30. If your child reads thirty minutes every day or a combination there of they will receive an E on their report card for the third trimester. Reading is the single best predictor of success in school. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns and we can modify that number. Reward Day: This Friday, March 6 our classroom will transform itself into a sea of blanket forts. Please send a sheet and/or blanket with your child on Friday. They may also wear their pajamas again! It will be a busy day because the children will also be going to the I Love to Read Month reading minutes carnival! Math: Please spend at least five minutes every day with basic addition and subtraction math facts. And please practice adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers with carrying and regrouping. Recess: Please continue to send outdoor clothing with your child every day. If it is warm enough, the kids will go outside. A good rule of thumb is to prepare for outside for recess EVERY day. Last week there were some kids who did not have mittens or gloves. Just think spring will be here soon. Have a great week! Toni

Check the Assignment Sheet to determine which list they are supposed to study for the week. I have a Premium Membership with Spelling City. If your child would like to practice the words, using that program they may. If your child is stressed before the pre-test they may practice the words prior to the first test. Logging into Spelling City: Click the link in the box to the left. Once you get to Spelling City your child will need to log in to the student log-in. The username is their first and last name with no spaces or uppercase letters. The password is their lunch number. Good luck! Let me know if you need assistance. Reading Log Assignment: Students are required to read a minimum of 30 minutes per day, outside of school. Please jot down the number of minutes read

Spelling City is an excellent online program to study spelling words. It is interactive and provides definitions of the words, too. Please note it is okay to practice the words prior to taking the pretest. Ask your child to write the total number of reading minutes each day. Please encourage your children to be responsible for showing you the folder and then returning it to their backpack. If you have not done so already, please try pick up a folder that has clasps in the middle to secure the assignment sheet. Birthday Treats and Celebrations Healthy Snacks Sending a treat to school to celebrate birthdays is optional. All treats must be store bought and individually wrapped. If your child has a summer birthday we will celebrate their day during All About Me or any other agreed upon date! There are 23 students, a para, and one teacher in our classroom. Snacks: Please send a healthy, non-messy snack to school for your child each day. Children are invited to bring a water bottle to school if desired, but soda, juices, and other beverages are not allowed in our classroom. Thanks for your help!

6 Shoes, layering for varied room temperature Shoes, etc.: Please help your child remember to have appropriate shoes. It is also a good idea to either send a sweater or a sweatshirt with your child each day, or have him/her keep one at school. Even during the cold weather, our classroom can be very chilly. I encourage layers of clothing! Please send warm clothes for the weather outside.
