2 1-31 October 2016 CLIA is pushing the boat out this year and going big with Plan A Cruise Month which will run from 1 to 31 October. And we want your help and support to make it the best yet. This help sheet is your one stop shop for everything happening around Plan A Cruise Month - it provides an overview of the month, activity taking place and importantly, what opportunities there are for you to become involved. What is Plan a Cruise Month? Plan A Cruise Month has been created by Cruise Lines International Association and is a global multi-dimensional campaign. It is designed to generate positive consumer awareness of cruise holidays and engage with consumers in exciting ways through PR activity and working with our travel agents. In previous years the campaign has run over a week but for 2016 it is bigger and better and will run for the whole of October. THIS YEAR S THEMES As a way of showcasing the many different experiences a cruise holiday offers, each week will have a different theme. We really want you to run with these themes through your own forms of communication. 1 9 October Family Friendly October Discovery October River October Luxury We will create infographic style content around the four themes to be used on social media - compiling bite size pieces to form the listicle graphics. As the name suggests a listicle is essentially a list about a certain topic it s a format adopted by many online outlets, and made famous by the likes of BuzzFeed. As we are in 2016, we will use this as a hook to create our Top 16 listicle content, for example Top 16 things for children to explore on board a cruise ship. PLAN A CRUISE 2016 INFORMATION

3 PLAN A CRUISE PRE- PLAN A CRUISE ACTIVITY CLIA s UK CRUISE RELAY Friday 23 September Friday 30 September In the week building up to Plan A Cruise Month, Andy Harmer and the CLIA team will be on the road visiting ports up and down the UK, hosting media lunches, and attending travel agent events in what we re calling the UK Cruise Relay. We want to create a buzz in the lead up to October and around the ports themselves. DATES & LOCATIONS Friday 23 September Port of Dover at 10am Monday 26 September The Scottish Port of Kirkwall at midday Ullapool Harbour Trust at 3pm Tuesday 27 September Media Lunch, Edinburgh Wednesday 28 September Port of Tyne at 9.30am Media Lunch, Newcastle Leeds - Travel Bulletin Evening Roadshow Thursday 29 September ABP Southampton at 9am The Global Travel Group Cruise event, Southampton Bristol Port at 2pm Friday 30 September Liverpool Cruise Port at midday Media Lunch, Liverpool Portsmouth International Port at 11.30am NORTHERN IRELAND IRELAND KIRKWALL ULLAPOOL SCOTLAND PORT OF TYNE LIVERPOOL WALES ENGLAND BRISTOL DOVER SOUTHAMPTON PORTSMOUTH Join in on Social Media - #CruiseMonth We d love to hear from you across our social media platforms - have you sailed from one of these ports, enjoyed an excursion there, ship spotted there or hope to cruise from this port one day in the future? 4 PLAN A CRUISE GET INVOLVED THIS OCTOBER! LAUNCH TWEET EVENT MONDAY 3 OCTOBER 2-4PM Launch the Month by sharing your favourite cruise place! We want to get ALL our partners that s cruise line staff on shore and on board; travel agents; ports; destinations and Executive Partners together with consumers to tweet their favourite cruise place on Monday 3 October between 2pm - 4pm using the hashtag #CruiseMonth. This could be a specific town or city, island, region or attraction. And get your customers, colleagues and friends to join in! We ll be monitoring the feedback and we ll then promote the results socially and through the media. MONDAY 3 OCTOBER between 2PM 4PM #CruiseMonth KEEP CRUISE ON SOCIAL MEDIA ALL Let s carry on the conversation on social! Follow us, use our hashtag - #MyHoliday - and help us promote the cruise experience This hashtag allows us to discuss the experiences that consumers can enjoy on a cruise proving there really is a cruise holiday for every travel style. For Plan A Cruise Month our social streams will be packed with fresh new content. To tie in with the weekly themes we will create resources on family cruises, discovery cruises, river cruises and luxury cruises. Share with us your cruise experiences and why a cruise is the perfect holiday option! We will be asking cruise related questions and looking for your guidance and opinion across the month - stay tuned!
