Editing Drupal 7 Sites March 2015 Basic page editing To begin editing, log in by adding /user to the end of your website address at the top. Ie: Username Password Navigate to the page you want to edit Hover over the right corner of the block you are editing until the gear with the arrow appear, click on the arrow and a drop down should appear Configure Block. Click on the Configure Block link. 1 1 Look for the Block Body area Enter text in the Block Body area, and use the editing toolbar to format fonts, size, boldness, links, and photos Scroll to bottom of page and click Save (you can Preview but remember to Save afterwards). Once you Save any update or change it is automatically live on your site. Continue to edit as needed

Adding links Navigate to the page you want to link to and copy its URL from the browser s address bar. Back on your library s website, from the Body portion of the Edit page, find or enter the text you want to make into a link. Highlight the text that you want to link. 2 2 Click the Insert/edit link icon: The following Insert/Edit Link window will appear:

Paste your URL into the blank space next to Link URL (include etc. if that is part of the address). If you want the link to open in a new window or tab, choose open in new window (_blank) from the Target dropdown. 3 3 Click Insert. The text you selected to link will appear underlined and in blue on your Edit page.

Click Save at the bottom of the page to save your links. Adding links Selecting a linked address allows some users to open a blank addressed to that address. Follow the steps above for creating a link to another website, but rather than pasting a URL into the Link URL field, enter mailto:[ address] as shown below: 4 4

Linking to files For text- based documents, we recommend that you post PDF files on your site for optimum accessibility. The maximum file size you may upload is 2 MB, but the files you post should typically be considerably smaller than that. First, save the file you want to link to in an accessible spot on your computer. Go to the page on your library s website where you want to post the file. From the Body portion of the Edit page, find or enter the text you want to make into a link to the file. Highlight the text that you want to link. 5 5 Click the Insert/Edit Link icon: The Insert/Edit Link window will appear:

Click the Browse icon to access your site s File Browser. The File Browser contains saved files associated with your site. 6 6 From the left side of the new File Browser window under Navigation, select the folder in which to save your file. You will find the saved file on your computer. Click Upload near the top of the window.

A new box will appear below the Upload button. Click the Choose file button to find the file saved on your computer 7 7 A new Open window will appear. Search your computer for the file you want to link to. Click Open at the bottom of the window after you select your file.

Your file s name will appear in the File field back in the File Browser window. 8 8 Click Upload.

Your file will be added to the folder you selected earlier, and it will be selected in the list. Close the small Upload window using the x in the upper right. 9 9 Click Insert file to link to the selected file.

You will see the Insert/Edit Link window again with information about your file entered. Click Insert to return to the edit page The text you selected to link will appear underlined and in blue on your Edit page.

Click Save at the bottom of the page to save your changes

Displaying images Save your image to an easily- retrievable place on your computer. We recommend saving images as JPEG files at 72 dpi and under 50 kb. From the Edit page, place your cursor where you want to insert an image. Click the Insert/Edit Image button From the Insert/Edit Image window, click the Browse icon.

From the left side of the new File Browser window, select the folder in which to save your image file. You will find the image file on your computer and save to this collection of files associated with your website Click Upload near the top of the window.

A set of options will appear below. Click the Choose File button A new Open window will appear. Search your computer for the image file you want to insert. Click Open near the bottom of the window after you select your file.

Your file s name will appear in the File field back in the File Browser. Click Upload Your image file will be added to the folder you selected earlier, and it will be selected in the list. Close the small Upload window using the x in the upper right.

Click Insert file to display the selected image file You will return to the Insert/Edit Image window with your image s unique URL in the Image URL filed and an image preview in the Preview pane.

On the General tab, give your image a description and title. These are particularly useful for visually impaired visitors using screen readers From the Appearance and Advanced tabs, you can adjust the size, border, and alignment of your image. o o o o Alignment choose where you want your image to appear (usually right or left) If your image is too large or small, you can adjust the dimensions If you want some space left around it, add this in the Vertical or Horizontal space boxes If you want a border around the image, add a number here. (1 is thinnest)

Click Insert to return to the Edit page after you have entered any applicable specifications

Click Save at the bottom of the page to save your images To edit your image, select it in the Body section of the Edit page. Click the Insert/Edit Image icon to view and make changes on the Insert/Edit Image window. To remove an image: Click Edit Scroll down to the Body area Click on the image (it is highlighted) Click your delete key OR the Insert/Edit Image icon Insert. and remove the Image URL then click

Adding Calendar Events This section refers to Drupal s built- in calendar function To add a new event to the calendar, select Add Event in the upper left A blank Create Event page will open

Fill in the Title and Body portions of the page: Title: this information will appear on the calendar grid Body: this information will appear if a user clicks on the title from the calendar grid. Include any information, links, images, etc. related to the event. You may also leave the Body section empty Scroll down to the Date section. You must complete this information to place your event on the correct spot on the calendar.

If the event has no specific starting time, select the All Day checkbox. You will only be prompted to enter a date below If the event is regularly repeated (a weekly storytime, for example), check the Repeat box. You will be prompted to enter information about how the event repeats.

Select Save at the bottom of the page to add your event to the calendar Editing Calendar Events To make changes to an existing event entry, click on it from the calendar grid. Select the Edit tab and make your changes on the resulting editing page. Select Save at the bottom of the page when complete.

Slideshow - On the gray toolbar at the top above your site: - click "Add slide" - type in a "Title" for the slide (this will be how you identify it in the list) - "Choose File" from your computer - click "Upload" button - if you want the slide to link to an external page - copy and paste the url of that page - if you want the slide to link to a page on your site, type in /node/(number of node for that page) To edit slides already posted: - click "Find content" tab in gray toolbar at top - under "SHOW ONLY ITEMS WHERE" "type" dropdown: choose Main Slideshow Slides - click the "Filter" button - this will limit the list to just slides. - delete or arrange slides here - The slides are in the order they were created with the oldest ones first. - The slides are in the order they were updated with the most newly updated ones first [Gus can add a field to the slides that is a number. The lower the number, the earlier the slide displays.] - If you decide to go with the way it currently is set up, then all you have to do is edit a slide (you don t actually have to make any changes) and click Save. This will make the slide you just saved display first If you encounter problems or need additional help with your website, contact Gus Falkenberg at IFLS
