2 Truck Company Operations: Ground Ladders Ladder Raise Options Flat Raise Beam Raise Parallel Raise Target Objectives 1 story roof 2nd story window 2 story roof Objective: To safely place ground ladders into service using the appropriate ladder for intended target and the number of personnel who are normally assigned to that unit. This evolution shall consist of removing the appropriate ladder from the apparatus and properly positioning and raising the ladders to a target objective. The method used to raise a ladder shall be consistent with the method(s) normally used by the department with the number of personnel normally assigned to that unit. Ladder Used Recommended # of FF One straight ladder One One extension ladder (24 ) Two One extension ladder (35 ) Three Sample Ladders raised and set properly Were the correct angles used for placement of the ladders Was the halyard tied correctly Was the evolution conducted safely Time begins at signal from the evaluators signal of go and concludes when the ladder is ready to be climbed. Recommended Maximum time: To be determined by authority having jurisdiction NFPA 1410, 2005 Edition; Training for Initial Emergency Scene Operations

3 Southwest United Fire Districts Truck Company Operations: Ropes and Knots Single Hand Bowline Handcuff Knot Clove Hitch Figure 8 on Bight Halyard Tie-Off (Clove Hitch) Follow-through Figure 8 Overhand Safety Knot Objective: To correctly tie various fire service knots in accordance with accepted department practice and references. Conduct at least two evolutions utilizing knots for hoisting evolutions and at least one evolution for each other knot application. This evolution shall consist of demonstrating the ability to tie knots and hitches for fireground use. Knot Clove Hitch Figure Eight Figure Eight on a Bight Sheet bend Single overhand safety knot Handcuff Knot Single hand bowline Possible Uses for Knot Halyard tie-off, hoisting tools Tying two equal ropes together, component of other knots Used when a loop is needed in the middle of a rope, hoisting Tying ropes together (Becket bend) of equal length Finish (safety) to most knots Firefighter rescue knot Self-rescue, tying rope to self Knot properly tied according to department or IFSTA standard Firefighter explains use of knot on fireground Knot tied within recommended maximum time Time begins at signal from the evaluators signal of go and concludes when firefighter signals that the knot is tied. Complete tool/equipment hoisting evolution with at least 2 pieces of equipment using 2 different knots NFPA 1410, 2005 Edition; Training for Initial Emergency Scene Operations

4 Truck Company Operations: SCBA Donning Objective: To don assigned self-contained breathing apparatus in accordance with manufacturers and department procedures without errors in 60 seconds or less completing all safety checks. This evolution shall consist of demonstrating the ability to don SCBA for immediate fireground use. All required safety checks and the proper use of all assigned PPE will be required for this evolution. Start evolution from assigned position or assigned method including; overhead, jumpseat, or coat method as specified by instructor in charge. All required safety checks completed SCBA donned without compromise of face piece seal SCBA donned within prescribed time limit All straps are fastened All PPE worn correctly without exposed skin Recommended Maximum time: 60 seconds or less completing all required safety checks. (1001 reference) -Department procedures and equipment manufacturer recommendations

5 Truck Company Operations: Ventilation Use roof ladders and all PPE Use roof ladders and all PPE neces- Objective: To simulate the procedures necessary to ventilate a structure using ground ladders, tools, fans, sary to remove smoke from a structure. This evolution shall consist of demonstrating the ability to remove smoke from a structure. Simulation will allow for the use of roof mock-up, simulated building materials or other training aids in lieu of actual acquired structures or training towers. As a company, perform a simulated vertical ventilation operation by completing entire sequence of operations: Position apparatus, size-up for correct ladder and ventilation placement, carry, raise and secure ladder, carry all tools/roof ladders to position, make ventilation hole, remove all ventilation barriers and return company to service. Was the correct ladder(s) used for evolution Were the ladders raised and set correctly Was equipment used correctly and safely Did the removal of smoke and gases occur Was the evolution performed in designated time If your department does not have access to an acquired structure or training tower, use pallets or plywood mock-ups to simulate roof surface. Use simulated smoke to add authenticity to the evolution. -Add in ladder element using fire station or other suitable building Recommended Maximum time: To be determined by AHJ after task analysis of several company evolutions using standard set of operations. -Department SOG s on Ventilation Operations

6 Truck Company Operations: Smoke Ejectors and Fans Objective: To set up smoke ejectors or power fans to remove smoke from a structure using the required power supplies or equipment necessary to accomplish the assignment. This evolution shall consist of demonstrating the ability to set up smoke ejectors and/or fans to remove smoke from a structure. Attention should be given to various positions that the fans can be placed for positive pressure, smoke ejection, on the ground, hanging and other set-up methods. Discuss the benefits/concerns for using these units in various stages of fire operations. Were the correct procedures utilized to operate smoke ejectors or fans? Were the correct size extension cords or other engine start-up and run procedures used? Were the correct set-up positions and procedures used to remove smoke? Was all equipment used correctly and safely? Was smoke removed and replaced by fresh air at the simulated incident scene? Recommended Maximum time: To be determined by AHJ after task analysis of several company evolutions using standard set of operations. -Department SOG s

7 Truck Company Operations: Illumination and Portable Power Supply Objective: To provide illumination to a fireground operation using generators, power plants, portable and fixed lighting systems from apparatus and the necessary power cords to accomplish the assignment. This evolution shall consist of demonstrating the ability to provide lighting to an emergency scene using generators, power plants, portable lighting and other accessories necessary to light the incident scene. Attention should be given to not overloading circuits, output capacity of generators and electrical systems and in the safe placement of lights on the fireground. Were the correct procedures utilized to operate generators and power plant systems Were the correct size extension cords, cord reels or other remote power supply systems used Were the output capacities of the electrical system exceeded Was all equipment used correctly and safely Did the simulated incident scene become illuminated Recommended Maximum time: To be determined by AHJ after task analysis of several company evolutions using standard set of operations. -Department SOG s
