1 Registered Charity #179 Aqua Camp 2015 Application Form General Information Aqua Camps, run by the Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS), are week-long, full-day (9am-3pm) learning camps which give children the opportunity to have positive experiences learning about nature. They offer hands-on education, field trips, arts and crafts, and Zoo/Aquarium visits and are based at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo (BAMZ). The camps are divided into age groups based on the child s current year in school. All activities are geared for the appropriate age group. Children may attend camp for one week only. 2 Aqua Camp Themes for 2015 Thank you for your interest in our Aqua Camp programme. Our Aqua Kids, Fun, Zoo and Explorer camps use a two year alternating curriculum that takes children through a series of life science and Bermuda natural history topics. This year s themes are: Aqua Tots - campers will learn about different animal groups. Aqua Kids - campers will learn about Bermuda s ponds, their inhabitants and what is threatening them. Aqua Fun - campers will learn about Bermuda s mangroves, their inhabitants and their importance for wildlife. Aqua Zoo - campers will explore and learn about Bermuda s above ground and submerged caves and why they are so special. Aqua Explorers - campers will be based on Trunk Island and will learn about and begin monitoring a variety of aquatic habitats. Aqua Conservationists (new this year) a five day residential camp based on Trunk Island. Campers will volunteer in the zoo/aquarium and explore and participate in a variety of conservation projects A schedule of daily activities for each camp group and a list of what your child needs to bring to camp will be ed to you in mid-june and will be posted on our web site by June 20 th. Aqua Camp 2015 Application Instructions Please take note of the following when completing the application: Complete a separate form for each child. Children may attend for one week only. Please complete the Health/Special Needs section on page 2 as fully as possible. The Disclaimer on page 2 must be signed by a parent/guardian in order for the application to be accepted. If your child has a friend they want to be with in camp please note this in the Requests/Comments box. Full payment of camp fee must accompany your application. A nonrefundable application fee of $10/child is included in the camp fee. Aqua Camps are available only to members of the Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS) or the Atlantic Conservation Partnership (ACP). If you do not have a current membership, use the form on page 3 to join or renew. The membership fee must accompany your application. The parent(s) or grandparent(s) of the child(ren) applying must have a minimum of a Killifish (Family or Grandparent) level membership which must be valid until December 31, 2015 at the time of application. All three pages of the completed application form for Aqua Camps together with the camp fee and membership fee (if necessary) should be returned to the Bermuda Zoological Society via: o Fax: o membership.bzs@gov.bm o By hand: to the cashier s desk at the BAMZ front entrance. A confirmation of placement will be ed to you. Please ensure that you include your preferred address on the application form. After Camp: I require After Camp Care additional $80/child Aqua Tots: 12noon 3pm Aqua Kids/Fun/Zoo: 3pm 5:00pm (latest pick up 5:30pm) I do not require After Camp Care. My child will be picked up promptly at the end of regular camp. My child will take the bus home at the end of camp. Swimming Ability: Non swimmer Beginner Intermediate Strong Aqua Tots/Aqua Kids - all water based activities take place in shallow water under close supervision. Aqua Fun - some of the activities involve swimming; snorkeling is optional. Aqua Zoo - we require that children be able to swim comfortably in deep water in order to participate; ability to snorkel would be an asset. Aqua Explorers children will be spending at least two hours a day in the water and must be able to swim comfortably in deep water; ability to snorkel would be an asset Free Hot Dog Lunch: Hot dog lunch will be provided on one day of camp. Your child will not require lunch that day but will need to bring fruit/snack and water. Please indicate your selection below. Transportation will be arranged in accordance with the Bermuda seat belt law and may include the BAMZ bus, taxis, minibus services or private cars (buses and older cars without seat belts are not required by law to install them). If I am unwilling for my child to travel by these means I agree that I will arrange other transportation to the field trip site or arrange alternate care for my child for the trip duration. I understand that the camp programme may include age-specific water-based activities each day at safe swimming / wading locations. I understand that the camp programme may include one or more outings on the BZS vessel Endurance or another appropriate vessel. I understand that some camp activity may include the watching of age-appropriate videos, either as an educational activity that enhances the camp programme or as an alternative activity in the case of inclement weather. I understand that, should my child s behaviour be too disruptive or challenging to manage within the camp group, I may be called to collect him/her. I understand the Bermuda Zoological Society reserves the right to use photos taken during Aqua Camp in not-for-profit marketing promotions I agree to sign out my child with his/her teacher before removing my child from the BAMZ premises. I understand that the Bermuda Zoological Society is not obligated to accept this application. I understand all of the above and that the Bermuda Zoological Society & Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo will endeavour to provide a safe environment for my child.
