2 COMPUTER ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY Pathway Description These curriculums are designed to prepare students through the study and application of principles from mathematics, natural sciences, and technology and applied processes based on these subjects. Course work includes mathematics, natural sciences, engineering sciences and technology. Graduates should qualify to obtain occupations such as technical service providers, materials and technologies testing services, process improvement technicians, engineering technicians, construction technicians and managers, industrial and technology managers, or research technicians. Program Description A course of study that prepares the students to use basic engineering principles and technical skills for installing, servicing, and maintaining computers, peripherals, networks, and microprocessor and computer controlled equipment. Includes instruction in mathematics, computer electronics and programming, prototype development and testing, systems installation and testing, solid state and microminiature circuitry, peripheral equipment, and report preparation. Graduates should qualify for employment opportunities in electronics technology, computer service, computer networks, server maintenance, programming, and other areas requiring knowledge of electronic and computer systems. Graduates have the opportunity to continue their education at four-year institutions as juniors. Co-op Work Experience Our co-op program provides second-year students with real world skills that prospective employers are seeking. Every effort is made to place the student in a co-op work experience that is tailored to their skills, needs and preferences. Even though it is not guaranteed, many co-ops lead to permanent employment. Admissions Requirements Associate Degree Program All students applying for a degree program must complete the following steps: Complete and submit an Admissions Application. Submit official transcripts from all previously attended high schools and colleges. Take the placement test and meet with a pre-advisor to review your scores. While major course focus is in-depth computer knowledge, several electronics courses provide a pathway into electrical troubleshooting and design. Students can choose from a wide array of technical elective classes to learn new or build on existing skills. Computer programming utilizing C++ along with micro-processor applications provides other avenues for employment.
