1 Chesterfield Township Library Patricia Ave. Chesterfield, MI (586) Job Description Position: Systems Administrator/Technical Services Supervisor Supervised by: Library Director Classification: Full-time, Exempt, At-will Schedule: Five days/week (37.5 hours) including one evening; On-call for emergencies Salary: $48,048 Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life, pension, retirement health savings plan, short-term disability and long-term disability insurance; standard holidays, PTO available after one year; Optional: 457 retirement plan, medical flexible spending account. General Summary: Coordinates and monitors the operation of library computer systems, recommends electronic media and other software, trains staff in the use of information technology and computer systems and oversees technical services operations including selection, acquisitions, cataloging and processing. Essential Job Functions: The following statements are intended to describe the major responsibilities and requirements for this position. It is not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of all duties, responsibilities or requirements. Manage library LAN and wireless network, and maintain computers and related equipment, licensing and supplies. Investigate, troubleshoot, provide technical support and resolve computer hardware, software and printer problems, and arrange for repair and replacement, as necessary. Maintain effective working relationships and communication with coworkers, supervisors, volunteers, community organizations and the public. Provide up-to-date documentation and training for staff on technology systems. Design and recommend hardware and software specifications for automated systems. Maintain library web pages, Intranet, and social media pages. Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate technical services staff. Manage SirsiDynix Symphony Integrated Library System for ordering, receiving, invoicing, cataloging, processing and payment of library materials Develop and maintain library collections of books, magazines, audio-visual, digital, and other materials, including weeding and space management. Evaluate, maintain and update library databases. Maintain library statistics and provide reports as necessary. Attend professional meetings, conferences, and workshops to maintain best practices and stay informed about trends and advances in the IT field that can enhance the library s delivery of service. Attend departmental meetings and stay current with changes to procedures and policies affecting department and/or library operations. Perform other duties as assigned including working as a team member to provide all library services to the public.
2 Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position: Bachelor s Degree required, MLS preferred. Three years professional IT experience, library management experience preferred. Possess knowledge of library practices, services, automated systems and systems management. Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with vendors, the public, and staff. Ability to maintain organization within a department; ability to recruit, train and supervise. Skill in providing instruction and technical support to library staff members. Knowledge of RDA, AACR2, LCSH, US-MARC and DDC. Understand and employ best practices for collection development, and visually inspect materials for damage, repair or replacement Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Ability to collaborate with professional and support staff. Ability to prioritize workload and work independently. Ability to clearly, effectively communicate and present ideas verbally and in writing. Ability to work under stress, and be flexible and adaptable to changes in work priorities. Prompt and dependable with a strong work ethic. Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; use hands with dexterity; reach with hands and arms; be able to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. At times the employee might need to lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing up to 60 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and color, and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee might occasionally be required to travel to other locations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a public service setting.
