TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: NUTRITION EDUCATION COORDINATOR I Training and Experience: Three (3) years of experience performing nutritional health education services and functions in a public health or community health environment, and at least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory or management capacity.

2 AND Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, or a directly related field. Special Requirements: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Driver's License. NUTRITION EDUCATION COORDINATOR II Training and Experience: One (1) year of experience providing and managing nutritional health education services in public health nutrition or community nutrition comparable to that of a Nutrition Education Coordinator I with the County of Lake. REGISTERED DIETICIAN Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in nutrition or related field. AND Current registration as a Registered Dietician, issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the American Dietetic Association. FULL JOB DESCRIPTION: NUTRITION EDUCATION COORDINATOR I DEFINITION Under general supervision, to develop and coordinate nutrition education programs and functions of the Health Services Department; to perform a variety of clerical, analytical, and technical tasks related to nutrition programs, including, but not limited to, research, program development, assessment, contract monitoring, and grant proposal development; and to do related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the first working level in the Nutrition Education Coordinator class series. There is a single allocation designated to this class series with the incumbent assigned to the appropriate level and scope of responsibility based on experience, education, and agency needs. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and performing a wide variety of tasks and functions related to the Health Services Department s nutrition education programs. The incumbent also has day-to-day responsibility for the development, coordination, and conduct of nutritional health education for community groups and individuals. Depending upon the needs of the department, and workload related to nutrition education programs, the incumbent is expected to assist with other public health programs, as assigned. The Nutrition Education Coordinator I is distinguished from the Nutrition Education Coordinator II in that the Nutrition Education Program Coordinator I incumbent performs a narrower scope of duties under

3 closer supervision. When work knowledge has been developed, sound work demonstrated, and requirements have been met, an incumbent may reasonably expect promotion to the Nutrition Education Coordinator level. REPORTS TO Public Health Nursing Director; Public Health Officer; Health Services Director. Plans, develops, organizes, implements, and coordinates nutrition education programs; assesses individual and community nutrition health education needs; serves as a resource person in nutrition health education; presents materials to groups, agencies, and individuals; evaluates the effectiveness of nutritional health education programs; completes project and grant evaluation requirements related to assigned duties; organizes and facilitates nutrition education presentations for variety of small and large community groups, including community based organizations and agencies; establishes and maintains liaisons between the Health Department and other public and private entities, including, community organizations, local businesses, state and regional entities and other groups to maintain open lines of communication; compiles, reviews and develops nutrition reference and education materials that are culturally and linguistically appropriate for dissemination to the public, including reports, pamphlets, exhibits and news releases; implements strategies to raise awareness of nutritional health issues; contacts community agencies and groups to plan, develop and promote nutritional health programs; collaborates with surrounding counties and communities on nutrition health education; gathers, evaluates and completes quarterly, annual and final reports; may recommend policy and procedures in the health education areas; assists in developing and monitoring the budget(s) for assigned functions; provides statistical analysis and other services as needed; ensures that program goals and objectives are met; performs a variety of both routine and specialized clerical support work related to assigned program; assists with other public health programs, as assigned. TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; lift and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including computer, telephone, calculator, copiers, FAX, and other related peripheral equipment such as printers and scanners. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in office and community environments and includes continuous contact with other staff and the public. This is a discrete classification that may be included in a flex series comprised of multiple classifications The incumbent is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and performing a wide variety of tasks and functions related to the Health Services Department s nutrition education programs. The incumbent also has day-to-day responsibility for the development, coordination, and conduct of nutritional health education for community groups and individuals. Depending upon the needs of the department, and workload related to nutrition education programs, the incumbent is expected to assist with other public health programs, as assigned. The Registered Dietician is distinguished from the Nutrition Education Coordinator I and II in that the Nutrition Education Coordinators are not required to be registered/credentialed with the American Dietetic Association. 11 EMPLOYEE BENEFITS Vacation 80 hours per year during the first five years of service, 120 hours per year after five years, and additional accruals based on years of service beyond fifteen years.. Pro-rated for part-time employees. Holidays - An average of twelve paid 8-hour holidays per year. Pro-rated for part-time employees. Sick Leave - Accrues at a rate of 96 hours per year. Pro-rated for part-time employees. Health and Insurance Benefits - Medical, dental, hospital, vision, life and disability coverage is available to employees and their dependents. The County contributes $800 of the monthly premiums for the insurance plan options. Retirement - County employees are members of the California Public Employee Retirement system (CalPERS). CalPERS provides a defined benefit pension at retirement for County employees. The pension formulas and employee contribution amounts may vary by bargaining unit, date of hire, prior qualifying service, and classification. Please contact Human Resources for more information. Salary - Lake County has an adopted salary schedule. The salary range for most classifications is in five increments with a provision for longevity increases. Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range. Social Security - County employees participate in Social Security. California State Disability Insurance SDI is available to some County employees. Deferred Compensation Plan and Credit Union Memberships are available to County employees. Management Employees- Management Employees accrue vacation at a different rate and also receive 40 hours per fiscal year of Administrative Leave with an option for cash in lieu. DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS As members of the County of Lake Emergency Services Organization, all Lake County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor. HIRING PROCEDURE General Information - All candidates must establish that they are a United States citizen or an alien authorized to work in the United States prior to permanent appointment. Eligibility Lists - The names of candidates who are successful in the examination process will be placed on an eligibility list in rank order based on examination scores. As vacancies occur, the top four eligible candidates will be referred to a department for selection. A candidate who is not selected will remain on the eligible list and will be referred to other departments as vacancies occur. Background Investigations -Employment in certain departments is contingent upon successfully passing a background investigation. Applicants for these positions will be required to complete and sign an authorization/release form/packet enabling such an investigation. Failure to complete, sign, and return the form/packet will exclude the applicant from further consideration for the vacancy. A polygraph test may be required as part of the background investigation. DOT - The Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) designates certain County of Lake positions as Safety Sensitive Drivers.
