Application EMRS team members SAS airwing Paramedics Background The EMMA Emergency Capnometer and SP300 Finger Tip Pulse Oximeter are carried in the Monitor Pack and can be used for back-up monitoring in the situation of MRX failure or where small and simple monitoring could be beneficial i.e. RTC entrapment on a HEMS mission. 2 S P300 Digital Finger Tip Pulse Oximeter Prior to use remember to remove the cotton tape from battery compartment. This acts as a circuit breaker in an attempt to improve battery life. The finger pulse oximeter is very simple to operate and only has one button. The device is switched on with a single press of this button. The oximeter defaults to screen 1, shown below and displays SpO2, pulse rate and SPO2 waveform. Further button presses will scroll through the display options shown below, enabling you to adjust the screen orientation to make reading the display easier depending on your position in relation to your patient If the power is depressed for longer than one second the brightness of the device will be adjusted. There are 10 brightness levels; the default is level 4. The oximeter will switch itself off after 8 seconds if no signal detected. Please note: this device has no alarms. 4 To begin using attach the Airway Adaptor to the EMMA monitor. It can only be fitted one way, with the bigger end of the tube to the bottom of the monitor. Next press the power on button in the bottom left hand corner. The monitor will perform a short self-test and will display a ETCO2 value of 0 and the respiratory display will show - -. The monitor will automatically switch off 15 seconds after the Airway Adaptor has been removed from the device or when no breath is detected 2 minutes after the alarm silence button has been pressed. The monitor displays ETCO2 as a kpa value between kPa. The respiratory rate display shows breaths per minute between 3-150bpm. The 14-segment red bar graph shows the current CO2 value. The table below illustrates the relation between the bar graph and the concentration of CO2 in kpa or mmhg. The bar graph provides qualitative information and is intended to be used as an adjunct to the two quantitative numeric displays. The bar graph is non-linear, using smaller units of measure at the bottom and larger units of measure at the top. 7 Adjusting Alarm Limits To adjust the high ETCO2 limit press and hold the Alarm Silence button until the RR display shows Hi and the ETCO2 display shows the current high ETCO2 alarm limit. Release the button. To adjust the alarm limit: press the Alarm Silence button ( ) to increase, or the Power On button ( ) to decrease the value. It is possible to switch off the high ETCO2 alarm by adjusting the limit above 9.9 kpa. EMMA Monitor will indicate this setting by showing "- -" on the ETCO2 display during the adjustment routine. If no button has been pressed for a short period of time, EMMA Monitor will automatically resume normal operation. To adjust the low ETCO2 press and hold the Power On button until the RR display shows Lo and the ETCO2 display shows the current low ETCO2 alarm limit. Release the button. To adjust the alarm limit: press the Alarm Silence button ( ) to increase, or the Power On button ( ) to decrease the value. It is possible to switch off the low ETCO2 alarm by adjusting the limit down to 0. EMMA Monitor will indicate this setting by showing "- -" on the ETCO2 display during the adjustment routine.
