2 Company Profile lcomet D is one of the leading manufacturers of rolled and extruded aluminium products in the Balkans and the only one of its kind in Bulgaria to house the production of both types of products. Benefitting from over 35 years of experience in the field of nonferrous metallurgy, today we offer a large variety of foils, sheets, strips and profiles with a total turnover exceeding 168 mln EUR. Located in the north-eastern part of Bulgaria, in the town of Shumen, lcomet has an international reach extending far beyond the country borders. Over 90% of the total volume is marketed abroad, mainly in the countries of the European Union. Over the last 10 years we spent 75 million euro in upgrading our production facilities increasing production output nearly four times. The next stage of lcomet s large-scale investment programme involves commissioning a new cold-rolling mill and a new extrusion press which will add another tons per year to the total production capacity. Investing in the most state-of theart equipment available the company targets new markets for high added-value products, such as flexible packaging, automotive and machine-building. 3 ROLLED PRODUCTS DIVISION Casting To cover the needs of its rolling production lcomet has a casthouse equipped with 6 continuous casting lines with a total production capacity of tons per year. Main focus is on 1xxx, 8xxx and 3xxx series alloys suitable for the majority of foil products available on the market, as well as many kinds of sheets and strips for industrial applications. Chemical composition is according to international standards, such as EN 573-3, or internal standards developed specifically to ensure best possible quality of the final product. 4 Rolling The main production division at lcomet is the Rolling plant equipped with a cold-rolling mill, a foil-breakdown mill and 3 foil mills with a total production capacity of tons per year. Our state-of-the-art finishing lines for slitting, degreasing, cut-tolength and embossing enable the company to produce a wide range of products with a variety of applications in food packaging, construction, automotive, heat exchangers, etc. Company s primary focus is the household foil with annual production output over tons making lcomet a leading European supplier of this product. 4/5

5 Food Packaging Household foil Household foil is used for wrapping food during cooking or to preserve its freshness. Its excellent resistance to the highest temperatures in cooking, its deadfold properties and its role as barrier against light, aroma and steam make it an essential item in every kitchen. 6 Container foil Container foil, also called lubricated foil, is used for the production of aluminium containers offering some of the most versatile packaging solutions available today. With its unique set of properties: a 100% barrier against light and gas, heat conductivity, formability, food contact ability and decorative appearance it helps to prevent food waste and provides other great benefits along the food chain to the end consumer. 9 EXTRUDED PRODUCTS DIVISION Billet Casting Billets used in lcomet s extrusion shop are produced in the company s own casthouse utilizing one of the most advanced technologies available on the market Wagstaff Hot Top Billet Casting System. The line is dedicated to soft alloys production covering 1xxx and 6xxx series alloys. Chemical composition is guaranteed according to international standards or customer specification. 10 Extrusion lcomet operates an Extrusion plant with four presses ranging from 600 tons to 2000 tons with an overall production capacity of about tons a year. The main focus is on soft alloys for the BC (architecture, building and construction) sector, advertising, transportation and machine-building. The latest addition to the company s extrusion facilities is a 600-ton press capable of extruding aluminium profiles with a weight as low as 50 grams per meter and wall thickness of min. 0.8 mm. 12 Surface Treatment For products demanding decorative appearance or improved corrosion resistance lcomet can offer a wide range of finishing services on its in-house anodizing and powder coating lines. vailable anodizing colours are silver, gold, bronze and black in standard mat finish or with additional pretreatment, such as sandblasting or brushing. Powder coating, on the other hand, offers an infinite variety of colours based on RL standard or customer s specifications. Both lines operate in full compliance with ISO nodizing Electrochemical anodizing is the process of covering the surface of the product with a transparent oxide layer. This process is carried out on a computer-controlled automatic line in four distinctive stages: pre-treatment with satin finishing, anodizing, colouring and hot sealing. Key features of the anodized products are increased hardness, attractive appearance and corrosion resistance. Powder coating Powder coating is a type of surface treatment providing a decorative finish to aluminium products. Its main benefits are good resistance to high impact abrasion, flexibility, high UV radiation and corrosion resistance. 13 Fabrication Strong demand for profiles with additional fabrication has urged lcomet to invest in own fabrication facilities, such as CNC-machining and precision cutting. The automatic high precision saw is capable of cutting profiles to a length of min. 20 mm with a tolerance of +/-0.2 mm while the 3-axis CNC center offers a selection of drilling, milling and tapping operations on up to three sides of the profile. Positive market response means the company will continue to expand its fabrication facilities in the future offering more sophisticated and complex operations to its customers. 15 Environment & Recycling Environment protection and the effective use of natural resources have always been among the top priorities in the development of lcomet D. For the past few years, all investments in the modernization and expansion of production capabilities have invariably been accompanied by the installation of modern purification facilities. The technical and technological solutions employed are of the highest quality and ensure a high degree of purification of the air emissions and the water used in production. The company has developed a number of programmes to manage production waste, the greater part of which is delivered for utilization by other industrial sectors. The existing melting furnaces enable the recycling and reuse of aluminium scrap generated in Bulgaria, thus reducing high energy costs and limiting the harmful emissions resulting from the production of primary aluminium. Consistent with its environmental policy, the company has developed and introduced an Integrated Management System in compliance with the requirements of EN ISO 14001:2004. Through recycling lcomet manages not only to preserve the natural resources but also to achieve energy saving and thus reducing carbon footprint. luminium dross luminium dross is formed on the surface of molten aluminium as a valuable byproduct of the aluminium smelting process. It can be mechanically recycled to recover the aluminium content for the secondary aluminium industry. luminium scrap luminium scrap generated in the production process is completely reused in lcomet s foundry. Sheet and coil scrap, as well as scrap from extrusion, can be remelted directly in the casting furnaces while foil scrap must first be melted into secondary ingots. lternatively foil scrap can be baled and supplied as a raw material to manufacturers of aluminium pigments, powders and flakes. 26/27
