Rene Karsenti, President, International Capital Markets Association Overview The ICMA Centre was Europe s first active collaboration between the securities industry and a university finance department when, 20 years ago, the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA) established a new relationship with the University of Reading. Today, as part of the triple-accredited Henley Business School, the Centre offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and executive education programmes tailored for the capital markets industry. 9 MSc Financial Risk Management (FRM) Overview This programme is for those with good quantitative skills seeking a career in this sector of the industry. Risk managers are employed in investment banks, asset management companies, insurance companies, regulatory agencies and also in the corporate treasury area of manufacturing and service companies. This programme has been awarded exemption from the examinations of the Professional Risk Manager s International Association (PRMIA), and we offer an accelerated route to their PRM professional certification. Our graduates can may leave the ICMA Centre with an internationally renowned Masters degree and the professional qualification for financial risk managers. Depending on the optional modules chosen, students may decide to specialise in risk analysis, markets and regulation, or risk management. 14 MSc Investment Banking and Islamic Finance (IBIF) Overview The aim of this degree is to prepare graduates for a career in the international investment banking industry in positions in which they might need to demonstrate knowledge of Islamic approaches to finance. The programme will provide participants with the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their understanding of both the theory and practical applications of modern finance both in conventional ( Western ) and Islamic jurisdictions. Thus, the programme aims to respond to the growing interest in Islamic Finance which is evidenced by a continuous increase in Islamic banking services, Islamic investment and other financial services based on Islamic principles. It is the first degree in the UK focusing wholly on finance to be offered in partnership with a leading teaching and research centre of Islamic finance. The programme is taught jointly with the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) in Kuala Lumpur. The degree does not require any previous knowledge of Islamic law or specific Islamic concepts, but will address and explain the respective current issues within their overall Islamic economic and legal context. 15 Learning Options Full-Time 9 months (Oct June) The full-time programme is taught at the ICMA Centre. This is the most popular learning option offering the benefit of studying alongside some 300 students from a range of different countries, with academic staff and tutorial assistance at hand. In addition IBIF has a 12-month option with study in Kuala Lumpur and ISF includes a period of study in Greece. Flexible Learning Distance Learning 24 months If you want to continue working whilst you study for your Masters degree, this option is ideal. We are receiving a growing number of applicants for our distance learning MScs, both from those who have recently graduated and those already working in the industry. You will benefit from using our unique Interactive Learning Environment (ILE), an ipod pre-loaded with Part One lectures, and our optional IC Live week, which includes dealing room sessions. 18 months This option is a combination of distance learning (Part One) and full-time study (Part Two), allowing a blend of the benefits of full-time and distance learning. Credits explained All our Masters degrees comprise a total of 180 credits: 80 credits at Part One and 100 credits at Part Two. Modules are worth either 10 or 20 credits. Entry to this pre-sessional course with a score of 6.5 fulfils your English language requirement.
