Stockholm University School of Business is one of the top Nordic business schools, educating business leaders and managers of the future in both the private and public sector. We are constantly striving to develop the learning process in such a way that creative thinking and critical reasoning are the guiding principles for our master s programmes. Our courses are based on the latest research. Close contacts with the worlds of business and research, both at a national and international level, allow us to offer a transnational education. We have more than 3,500 students at our campus in Kräftriket, beautifully located near the picturesque Brunnsviken lake, within walking distance of Stockholm city centre. Master s programmes at the School of Business The master s programmes at Stockholm University School of Business are designed to equip you with the skills and qualities required to manage current and future challenges in business and society. Our degrees combine relevant topics within business administration in order to generate a broad expertise that is attractive on the international market. You will gain both the theoretical knowledge and the practical capabilities necessary to succeed in international business within your chosen area. International perspective During your two years at the School of Business you will build an important international network as you interact with students from all over the world who are drawn to the global perspectives of our courses. Three of our programmes also offer students the opportunity to study one semester abroad at one of our many partner universities. Experienced faculty The master s courses are taught by faculty members with solid track records of teaching, researching and working within their respective fields and our students are actively involved in the learning process.

All our programmes have a strong research connection and prepare you for continued research studies, while at the same time ensuring that you graduate with an advanced practical skillset. The School of Business offers five international master s programmes taught in English and structured according to the Bologna process for international compatability. 5 Accounting, Auditing and Analysis The Stockholm-Uppsala Master s Programme in Accounting, Auditing and Analysis (SUMA) addresses the theoretical, legal, practical and social aspects of accounting and auditing in a Swedish and international context. SUMA is offered in collaboration with the departments of Business Administration and Business Law at Uppsala University. Integrating scholarly perspectives and methods with professional practice, the programme provides you with advanced knowledge of accounting standards and auditing regulations and it enables you to critically analyse the principles, practices and implications of accounting and auditing. The programme therefore provides a solid background for students pursuing a professional career in accounting and auditing. Courses Courses on the programme address advanced issues in auditing analysis, accounting research, risk analysis and responsibility analysis inter alia. A number of guest lectures will be given by practitioners in accounting and auditing. Students can choose to do an exchange semester abroad. During the last semester of the programme you will write a 15,000 words master s dissertation. The dissertation enables you to further advance the skills and knowledge you have developed during the taught courses by applying relevant theoretical perspectives and social science methods in an empirical setting. Career Prospective employers include accounting and auditing firms, multinational companies, financial institutions and government agencies. The programme also provides a solid background for students pursuing an academic career in research and teaching. Prerequisites Successful applicants are required to hold a Bachelor s degree with a major in business administration, equivalent to a minimum of 90 ECTS credits.

6 Banking and Finance The master s programme in banking and finance trains you in the advanced theories and methods of financial analysis. The programme is provided jointly by the School of Business and the Department of Economics at Stockholm University. Certain courses are run by the Mathematical Statistics Division of the Department of Mathematics. The programme is designed to attract students from both business administration and economics with a highly specialised interest and prior knowledge of financial economics. Courses Students take four courses per semester during the first three semesters. Courses on the programme include Advanced Financial Theory, Econometrics, Empirical Asset Pricing and Financial Institutions Management. During the last semester of the programme you will write a master s dissertation. The dissertation enables you to further advance the skills and knowledge you have developed during the taught courses by applying relevant theories and methods to an empirical problem. Career The programme provides a solid background for students pursuing a professional career in the financial industry as financial analysts, chief financial officers and portfolio managers. Prospective employers include commercial banks, central banks, investment banking firms and other international financial institutions. The programme also provides a solid background for students pursuing a career in academic research and teaching in the area of financial economics. Prerequisites Successful applicants are required to hold a Bachelor s degree with either 60 ECTS in business administration and 30 ECTS in economics, or 60 ECTS in economics and 30 ECTS in business administration. In addition, students are required to have foundational training in financial mathematics and financial statistics, each equivalent to at least 7.5 ECTS.

7 Consumer and Business Marketing Drawing on the School s long-standing expertise in marketing, strategic communication and consumer studies, this master s programme integrates advanced perspectives and methods in the social sciences to address contemporary phenomena in consumer and business marketing and communication. The programme gives you the necessary knowledge and skills to critically analyse the forces and practices that shape and change the future of markets, organisations and communities and to address the social and political context wherein they are embedded. Courses Students take four courses per semester during the first two terms. Courses include Marketing Theory, Consumer Culture Theory, Expressive Communication Strategies and Strategic Management. During the third semester you may broaden or specialise your expertise by choosing between a number of electives offered at the School or at other departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences. Students can choose to do an exchange semester abroad. During the last semester you will write a 15,000 words master s dissertation. 8 Management Studies Utilising the School s long-standing expertise in management and organisation research, this master s programme integrates advanced social science perspectives and methods to address managerial and organisational practices and to understand the social and political context they are embedded in. The programme deals with key issues facing people in contemporary organisations, including strategic management, organisational change, leadership, knowledge work, power, and globalisation. This gives you the necessary knowledge and skills to critically analyse and deal with the forces and practices that shape and change the future of management and organisations. Courses In the first semester you develop an advanced understanding of core management and organisation theories, the societal context of management and organisations, and cutting edge research pursued by faculty members in the School s Management, Organisation & Society Group. The second semester deals with key issues related to strategic management, organisational change and leadership. During the third semester you may broaden or specialise your expertise by choosing from a number of electives offered at the School or at other departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences. Students also have the option of international exchange. The fourth semester is devoted to social science methods and to the master s dissertation. The dissertation enables you to further advance the skills and knowledge you have developed through the taught courses by applying relevant theoretical perspectives and social science methods in an empirical setting. Career The programme provides a solid background for students pursuing a career in management, consulting and government, and for students pursuing an academic career in research and teaching. 9 Strategic IT Management Today information technology, IT, plays a very important role within the leadership and management of organisations. Based on modern IT, organisations of a new form, such as networks and virtual organisations and meeting places, have emerged on the market. To be able to develop and maintain the efficient use of scarce resources now and in the future, deep and up-to-date knowledge of information systems and organisations is necessary. Therefore, this programme combines a business administration approach to effective management with IT s potential to manage modern organisations. The programme is given in collaboration with the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences. Courses Students with a major in business administration begin with a course in computer and systems sciences and vice versa. After this course both student groups join to take courses dealing with issues related to strategic IT management. During the second year two specialisation tracks are offered. Regardless of the major of your Bachelor s degree you can choose to focus on either computer and systems sciences or business administration. Each specialisation track consists of a variety of courses covering specific topics within the respective area. During the final semester you write a master s dissertation. Career Are you interested in the leadership and management of companies and other organisations? This programme prepares you for work with IT as a tool to address management issues at a strategic level. Prerequisites A successful candidate is in possession of a Bachelor s degree in business administration or computer and systems sciences (e.g. computer science, system science, informatics, information systems). Please note, that when applying for admission to the master s programme Strategic ITmanagament, there are other requirements regarding what documents etc. that applicants are asked to submit than what is listed on the following pages. There are also other requirements regarding the proficiency in the English language. 10 General application information How to apply? You must apply via the online application service at the website In addition to the online application we require an application package listed below. These documents must be submitted by postal mail to the Central Admissions Office in accordance with the instructions given at studera.nu. Do not send any documents to the School of Business. Please note that if you require a visa to study in Sweden you must meet the requirements at the time of application and cannot be admitted on a conditional basis. Application deadlines There are two different application deadlines for our master s programmes: January 15: International applicants from countries outside EU/EES and Switzerland. The online application service opens on December 1. April 15: Applicants from Sweden and EU/EES and Switzerland. Applications received after the deadlines, or incomplete applications, will not be considered. Please note that the online application service in April will only be available in Swedish. For instructions in English please apply before January 15. Application package Please include the following documents in your application package: 1. An officially certified copy of your university degree/diploma/certificate. 2. An official transcript of your bachelor s degree (or equivalent), including information about courses taken, grades achieved and the grading scale used. 3. Proof of proficiency in English, for instance a TOEFL test (575 p paper based, 90 p Internet based) or IELTS (6.5 overall and no part under 5.5). 11 Application and tuition fees Application and tuition fees will be charged for students with a citizenship in countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland. The application fee is 900 SEK and the tuition fee is SEK/academic year (60 ECTS). Prerequisites Applicants admitted to our master s programmes are required to hold a bachelor s degree from an accredited university. In addition to the general requirements, you must also meet the specific requirements of the particular programme. We are not able to evaluate previous academic credentials before receiving your application. We make a full evaluation of your eligibility and suitability for the programme after the application deadline and after having received your complete application package. English Language requirement Students with an overseas degree need to show proof of English language skills. This is normally attested by means of an internationally recognized test, such as a TOEFL test (575 p paper based, 90 p internet based), or IELTS (6.5 overall and no part under 5.5). Swedish and Nordic students need to show proficiency in English equivalent to Engelska B. Some students may be exempt from submitting formal English test evidence. Exemptions are listed on the webpage, Admission process Admission is awarded on a competitive basis, and approximately 55 students are admitted to each programme every year. Eligible applicants must meet the general requirements for studies at master s level as well as the specific requirements for the specific programme. Successful candidates are selected by an admissions committee consisting of the School of Business faculty members. Applicants are ranked according to the number of academic credits achieved, the grades achieved, and their subject major.
