2 Device Sync Tabs To customize the way your ipad syncs with your computer, select your ipad under Devices on the left-hand side. Use the corresponding tabs to change sync options. Summary Tab This screen will give you information about your ipad (software version, serial number, etc.). It will also have a button to check for software updates. Info Tab You can select options to sync with your contacts, calendar and . You can also sync Internet bookmarks and notes to Outlook. Apps Tab Select which apps to sync, and add, delete or rearrange apps. (Use the sort drop down to help you find particular apps. Ex. Use the sort by size if your device is full and you want to delete large apps.) Select Automatically sync new apps to sync new apps to ipad that you downloaded or synced from another device. If you delete an app on ipad, you can reinstall it from the Apps pane if it was previously synced. Music Select how you would like to sync your music. Movies Select how you would like to sync your movies. Use the 2

3 TV Shows Select how you would like to sync your TV shows. Use the Podcasts Select how you would like to sync your podcasts. Use the Books Select how you would like to sync your books and audiobooks. If synching select books, you ll have the option to use the Photos Select which photos from your computer to sync onto your ipad. You can set up a special folder to save photos to that will be transferred to your ipad whenever you sync. Click the Include Videos box to include video from the folder. To specify a particular folder in My Pictures, select Selected Folders then place a check in the box(es) next to the folders to sync. To sync a folder that is not in My Pictures, click the drop down menu next to Sync Photos From and select Choose Folder. Navigate to the folder you wish to sync and click Select Folder. 3

4 Preferences Go to Edit, Preferences to do the following: General Tab o Change the library name o Change the text sizes o Hide items you don t use o Change what happens when a CD is inserted into the computer o Change the import settings for CDs (files types) o Turn on/off automatic updates Devices Tab o View or delete previous backups o Turn on/off automatic syncing Advanced Tab o View or change itunes Media Folder location o Turn on/off Copy files to itunes Media Folder when adding to library Get Info Right click on an item and select Get Info to make changes to the details of that item: Info Tab - Change the name, artist, album, genre, etc. Sorting Tab - You can customize the way items are sorted. You can add text in the Sorting Name if you want to search for content using a particular term, etc. Options Tab - Change the Media Kind or specify playback options. You can have the item skipped while shuffling music and make it play with no gap between. Artwork Tab - Add custom artwork for a song or album. Tips & Tricks: ACC Format - Advanced Audio Coding - standard format for idevices. Has better quality than MP3 Adding Files or Folders - You can add music, PDFs, etc. to your itunes Library by dragging and dropping into the appropriate area in the Library pane or by clicking File, Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library. Adding files will add the item to the itunes Library only. It will not place a copy of the file in your itunes Media folder. If you want to copy the files to the itunes Media folder, go to Edit, Preferences, Advanced and check the box next to Copy files to itunes Media Folder when adding to library. Audiobooks - If you import audiobooks into itunes and they show up in your music, rt. click on the file and select Get Info. Click the options tab then under Media Kind, select Audiobook. Now the file will appear in your Books section of the library. Authorize a Computer for your itunes Account - In itunes on the computer, click Store then Authorize this Computer. You can authorize up to 5 computers to use your itunes account. Deauthorize a computer if you will no longer be using it for itunes. 4

5 Burning a Backup - Use itunes to archive your entire music and video library on CDs or DVDs for safekeeping. Choose Library from the File menu, then choose Back Up to Disc. Tell itunes what you want to back up and insert a disc. itunes does the thinking for you just keep feeding it discs till it s done. Capacity Bar - The capacity bar show what is loaded on the device and the space remaining. You can view by space used, quantity of files or duration of content. To change views, click on the information below a category. Keep clicking until the preferred view is present. Convert to MP3 - Right click on a song and select Create MP3 Version. Create Playlists - If you have an event at school where you want music to play continuously, you can create playlists so only certain songs will play in the order you determine. Find your itunes Library - Go to Edit, Preferences then click the Advanced tab. You will see the path to your itunes library listed here. Importing from CDs - To import songs from a CD into itunes, insert the disc in your computer and click Import CD. If your songs already exist in digital form on your computer, just drag them into your itunes library. itunes also converts unprotected WMA files on your Windows computer to AAC files. Photos and Video - To transfer photos and video taken with your ipad, connect your ipad to your computer using the sync cable. Go to Computer or My Computer and look for your devices listed under Portable Devices. You can double click on the device then keep opening the folders until you reach the files. If your device is not listed, so to the Summary tab and check the box next to Manually Add Music & Videos. Preventing Automatic Syncing - If you have idevices or students will be bringing their own to your classroom, you can set up your computers so they will not automatically sync if a device is connected to it. This is necessary if students will be connecting the device to a computer to transfer pictures and video for example. To prevent automatic syncing, go to itunes and choose Edit then Preferences, click the Devices tab, then select Prevent ipods, iphones, and ipads from syncing automatically. Transfer Purchases - If you purchased items from the itunes Store from your ipad and have not synced with a computer, you can transfer them to any computer that is authorized for your itunes Store account. You must authorize the computer for your itunes account before transferring. You can only transfer items purchased from the itunes Store. Viewing Backup History - To view a list of recent backups, o to Edit, Preferences, Devices. You will see a list of backups. You can delete backups from this screen if needed. 5
