1 Dubai Hotels and City Information Sheet Venue Location and a guide to the city districts: Dubai city is spread across several different residential and tourist areas. Information about the city itself is provided in a separate factsheet on the website. However, it is important to consider location as well as price when choosing your hotel as distances can be large. The conference will take place at Heriot Watt University s Dubai Campus. This purpose built facility is located within the Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), inland of the main city and tourist areas. A map of the campus location can be found at: Bus Transportation IPCD will be providing a free-of-charge bus service to and from the venue from pick up points in the tourist areas and we recommend delegates stay in hotels where they can easily reach the bus service. N.B You will need to advise the IPCD Admin team if you wish to use this transportation by sending an to info@psych-me.com and including the days of required transportation and where you will be staying. Pick up locations and times will be by to those who have informed us that they wish to utilise the bus facility. If you wish to stay elsewhere you will find taxi transport to and from the venue very easy to obtain but this could add up to an additional 150 AED per day to your costs (depending on location). Taxis are plentiful and easily available. Dubai also has a clean, safe and cheap metro service that runs from the outer districts of new Dubai into the main city and Old Dubai. However this service does not currently run inland to reach the DIAC although it will be useful to get around the sights of Dubai. Note that Dubai is not a very pedestrian friendly city and walking even short distances may not be possible due to main roads and construction. Below are our informal brief comments on some of the city districts: Silicon Oasis: This is the nearest area to the conference venue. The campus is close by - approximately a 5-minute drive from the Silicon Oasis Premier Inn hotel. (This is not walkable and will still require transport). 2 Sheikh Zayed Road: This will refer to a strip of mid and top end hotels located centrally close to the Dubai Mall and Dubai World Trade Centre and other parts of the main city. You will likely have good views of the famous Burj Khalifa tallest building in the world from these hotels. Lots of modern tourist attractions and centrally located for getting around. Taxi to the venue from this area will cost around AED each way and will take approx 30mins. Bur Dubai / Deira: These two separate areas are located either side of the Dubai Creek and form the heart of Old Dubai. Traditional tourist sights are found here as well as the very bustling city streets. These areas have a range of hotels and can be a good place for cheap rooms. Top end hotels here will have excellent views of the creek and quality. Dubai Airport: Hotels around the airport will generally offer good value and range of options. As the airport is located in the city itself they will be convenient and near to various attractions. Taxi to the venue will take around 30mins. Al Barsha: This is an area surrounding Mall of the Emirates as you move away from the main city and towards the residential and beach areas of New Dubai. Many cost effective hotels and hotel apartment buildings are located in this area. It is well located for the metro and shops and you are likely to spot the famous Burj Al Arab hotel in the near distance. Public beaches are a short taxi journey away but the traditional Arabic part of the city will be about a min taxi ride. Tecom: This is a small area just down from Al Barsha. It hosts a number of cost effective hotel and apartment options. As above, the area has many shops and amenities and is a short taxi from the beach and marina areas. Media City: This sits just across the main highway from Tecom. Although it is primarily an office and business area, there are several hotels catering for business travellers that can be good value for money around the mid-range budget. However they do tend to get quite full so book early for these! From media city it is possible to walk to the public beaches and Marina area. Dubai Marina / Jumeirah Beach Residence: This is a higher end location with both the marina waterfront and the public beaches within walking distance. There are many hotels and hotel apartments in this area however they will generally be in the mid to top budget range. The flashy attractions of New Dubai are in easy reach but this is on the far side of the city from the airport and Old Dubai attractions. 3 IPCD have secured two recommended hotels with discounted rates specifically for the use and convenience of our Conference Attendees: JW Marriott Marquis 5 Star Sheikh Zayed Road ( Premier Inn 4 Star Silicon Oasis ( Free bus transportation runs from both of these hotels, to and from the Conference venue.
