2 1. Application of the terms and conditions of enrollment These terms and conditions of enrollment are intended to determine the obligations and responsibilities of students involved in the process of pre-enrolling for the French Language and Civilization Courses of the Sorbonne (CCFS). Students are regularly informed of these terms and conditions during the pre-enrollment process. As a consequence, enrolling in a CCFS program implies that the student accepts the present terms and conditions fully and without reservation Required age 2. Pre-enrollment and enrollment The student has to be more than 18 years old upon his/her arrival in France Required level of education The student must have obtained a degree which is equivalent to the French baccalaureate before enrolling in any session lasting more than three months (fall, winter, spring). In this case, the student agrees to provide CCFS with a French translation of his or her diploma by an officially certified translator at the earliest opportunity. The student shall pay any translation costs. The student must also take into consideration the amount of time required to complete this translation, which may be considerable. However, diplomas in English, Spanish, German or Portuguese are accepted without a translation Required level of French CCFS programs are open to students of all levels (including absolute beginners). The student s level will be determined upon arrival at the CCFS by an obligatory test of written and spoken French, which will determine the student s level of French as well as the class in which he or she will be placed Exemptions from residence permit and visa requirements The nationals of the European Union as well as Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway need only an ID card of current validity to join. Other numerous countries (see website of the Ministère des Affaires Etrangères) can join with their passport, having value of tourist visa of 3 months Residence permit and visa If you choose to study in France for more than three months, you must request a long-stay student visa (before your departure) from the consular authorities in your country. To obtain this visa, you must first pre-enroll and send the French translation of your diploma to the CCFS. We will then send you a certificate of pre-enrollment that will allow you to request a long-stay visa. After your enrollment, you will receive a certificate of enrollment. You can take this to the Préfecture de Police of your place of residence to obtain your long-stay residence permit. Please note: You must pre-enroll no later than one month before the start of your program. Receiving the pre-enrollment certificate does not guarantee that you will obtain a visa. Pre-enrollment is by no means a reservation of your spot. You must be present during the official enrollment period in order to be sure to have a spot. The student must notify the secretariat of the Civilization courses in the case of a delay of less than a certain amount of 2

3 time (please contact the French Language and Civilization Courses of the Sorbonne to find out this time limit) at the following address: Please note: there will be no reduction of tuition fees for students who enroll late for the French Language and Civilization Courses of the Sorbonne Registering for Social Security Students must sign up for health care cover with the French Social Security or with a private company Pre-enrollment 3. Payment details Students can enroll online or in person. At the time of pre-enrollment, you must pay a minimum amount determined according to the chosen course(s) or session(s), or the total cost of tuition. This minimum amount is subject to change without notice. Please note: pay close attention to any waiting periods over which we have no control (translation time, mailing time, etc.). It is essential to respect the dates of registration Online payment Only bank cards (Carte Bleue, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB) may be used to make preenrollment payments online. If you cannot pay by credit card, you can make us a transfer for the Fondation Robert de Sorbon (IBAN : FR ; BIC : SOGEFRPP) Payment in perso You may pay any remaining enrollment fees in person before the start of courses, at the time of enrollment, in one installment, by bank card (Carte Bleue, Visa, Mastercard, JCB), traveler s check (in euros) or personal check (from a French bank) made out to the Fondation Robert de Sorbon. Payment in cash is not accepted. If you only have cash, you can go to any post office and ask for a mandat-compte (Beneficiary: Robert de Sorbon foundation; N of CCP: ; Letter: P; Center: Paris). You can also go to any agency of the bank Société Générale and make a deposit at the account of the Fondation Robert de Sorbon Pricing The administration of the CCFS reserves the right to modify fees, dates or course schedules without notice. 3

4 4. Cancellation - Deferral - Refunds 4.1. Cancellation - Pre-enrollment fee refunds The only reason for which we will provide refunds of pre-enrollment fees is if the consular section of the Embassy refuses to issue a visa. To receive this refund, you must send us proof of the refusal (stamp or refusal letter). No other reason will entitle you to a refund. However, a deferral may be provided in certain exceptional cases or in the event of force majeure if proper justification can be provided in the form of relevant official documents Cancellation - Enrollment fee refunds All payments are final and non-refundable, regardless of the reason for cancellation Interruption of the courses Any begun course must be paid. However, An optional insurance for cancellation-interruption covers numerous cases of absolute necessity, for reasons of health personal or family. In case of refusal of visa or extension of stay followed by an OQTF (obligation to leave the French territory) the Robert de Sorbon foundation will pay off in proportion to the followed courses, for period beginning one month before the date of departure required in the OQTF. 5. Internal rules The student registered on the Courts of French civilization of the Sorbonne makes a commitment to respect the internal rules. (pages 5 & 6) 6. Right of access to electronic data The information requested from the student at the time of pre-enrollment is made available only to individuals or legal entities who are specifically authorized to receive them. All students may request to be notified by CCFS of the information concerning them and may request changes if necessary, in accordance with the provisions of Law No of January 6, 1978, on digital documents and rights. 4

5 School rules of the Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne General behavior The Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne are a school free of any religious or ideological beliefs. It s strictly forbidden to show any kind of disrespect to France, the French citizens, and to all the nationalities represented by the students that are coming from all around the world. It s forbidden to be disrespectful to any member of the teaching and administrative staff. Any kind of politic, religious or commercial propaganda is forbidden inside our buildings. Individual behavior A respectful dress code is required. No one has the right to disturb the courses or lectures by displaying an aggressive behavior toward teachers, administrative staff or students. All troubles have to be mentioned to the Director by a letter. If some signs of an abnormal behavior are caused by a mental illness, it s compulsory to inform in advance the Director who will make the appropriate decision regarding to the student registration. In case of serious problems, the student s Embassy of the student can be informed by our services. French Health insurance All non-european students under 28 must subscribe to the French Health insurance during their whole stay in France, unless they already subscribe to a private health insurance in their country of origin. Hygiene and security It s strictly forbidden to eat, drink and smoke inside our buildings. The students are asked not to stand abusively in front of the doors of our buildings. Students are not compelled to stay inside our buildings after the class. The opening and closing schedule of our buildings are posted and must be respected. All students must carry their student card with them at all time. The Director must be advised of any sign of illness with an epidemic status. In case of a pandemic, the official instructions are to be followed regarding prevention and protection. If one of our buildings or even the whole school should be temporarily closed, under request of the French government, the teaching would be continued under appropriate ways. Pedagogical behavior Students must be on time in class, and can t leave the classroom during the class unless, due to a major problem, they ask the teacher to leave the class. It s strictly forbidden to use mobile phone during the class. They must be switched off. Students are considered by the teachers as adults, and are aware of the fact that they are not just students. As a counterpart, the students have to follow the school rules and behave in an adult way. Presence, punctuality (of any kind: being on time in class, giving back exercises on time etc.) and regularity in work are part of the compulsory elements to succeed in our cours. Individual and collective letters criticizing a teacher is a grave action, and have to be taken seriously. In that case, the Director will verify if the request is relevant, and will act regarding to the decision that has to be made. 5

6 Any request to switch class will be considered after the teacher is in agreement, and then the request will be considered. Those changes are very exceptional and limited to one by session. Any breach of trust to these school rules will be submitted to our disciplinary hearing, which will recommend to Direction the sanctions that have to be taken. Those sanctions include the possibility of a definitive exclusion, without any refund of the registration fees. 6
