1 Dow Canada: 2016 Community Grant Program Guidelines/Frequently Asked Questions Guidelines The Dow Canada Community Grant program provides funding to projects that contribute to the success of local communities and make them better places to live and work. Grants are given to one-time projects that have long-term, sustainable benefits for community members. Organizations can request funding for $1,500 - $5,000 (grants must be for at least $1,500 to be considered by our selection committee). Applications must be received by Friday, June 24, 2016 at 4 pm To qualify for the DowGives Community Grant Program, organizations must: Be an official registered charity with Canada Revenue Agency or be registered as a nonprofit company or non-profit society; Be a school (schools must provide a non-profit or parent committee registration number with the application); Be a municipal or government agency; or Other type of non-profit organization. You must include your non-profit number. If you do not include a number, your application will be incomplete and will not be reviewed by the selection committee. Click here to apply for a grant. Organizations in the City of Red Deer and outlying communities will be considered by the committee based on the number of applications received and the basis of the project proposed. Projects must be completed by October 1, If additional funding is required to complete the project, the funding sources must be secured and confirmed prior to applying for a Dow Gives Community Grant; A maximum of one application per organization will be accepted; A detailed budget must be uploaded to the online application; Applications received after 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016 will not be accepted; and Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Dow Prentiss Site: Organizations must operate within the City of Lacombe, the Towns of Bentley, Blackfalds and Eckville; the Villages of Alix, Joffre, Tees and Clive. Who does not qualify for a DowGives Community Grant? Dow strives to ensure the DowGives Community Grants Program is unbiased, inclusive and fair. Therefore, grants are not provided to: Individuals; Political candidates; Religious organizations, however, we will consider organizations with religious affiliations that are seeking funding for an non-denominational initiative that is open to the community-at-large; Funding cannot be used for operating expenses including salaries, travel costs, fees for workshops or foundations; Except in specific fund matching situations, we do not fund seed money or start-up fees where contributions for various sources are being collected i.e. Playgrounds. However, we do fund specific items or pieces of equipment i.e. slide or swing sets for a completed project. What is the maximum grant that is offered by Dow? Organizations can request funding up to a maximum of $5, 000 (grants must be for at least $1,500 to be considered by our selection committee). Only one application per organization may be submitted and incomplete applications will be disqualified. What is the selection process? A selection committee comprised of representatives from the community, Dow s Community Advisory Panel and Dow employees will review all proposals and determine how effectively the

4 project or initiative. The committee is convened by an impartial facilitator and one Dow Public Affairs representative. Projects must: Meet a specific community need, solve a problem, enhance the community, or assist its residents; Benefit a number of people and has a measurable community impact; Align with the organization s philosophy and activities; Be guided by goals, objectives and results that are clearly defined; Be short-term, with high visibility and provide clearly defined, cost-effective recognition opportunities for Dow. For example post photos of the finished project on a Facebook page that can be linked to the Dow Chemical Canada Facebook page to be shared with our Dow employees and community at large; and Require a realistic, justifiable funding level to complete the entire project or a phase of it, and does not fund operational expenses such as salary or travel costs. How do we submit an application? Please click on the DowGives link on this page. This will take you to the North American Grant On line application form. Only applications received through the online database will be reviewed by the committee. Please note if you do not receive an stating that Your application was successfully submitted we have not received your online application. When will our organization be notified if we are successful applicants? We will notify all of our applicants as to whether they are receiving funding from the DowGives Community Grants program by August 15, If we are successful, how soon will we receive the funds? We recognize those receiving funding will want to get started on projects right away. However, please note that funding is administered from our US-based corporate Head Office in Midland, Michigan. Funds will be received in Canadian dollars. This process takes a MINIMUM of weeks. Funds will likely be received by October We cannot influence the speed of the process and respectfully request organizations plan accordingly. If

5 you have not received your funds by October 15, 2016, please contact Dow Public Affairs at Will we need to provide a charitable tax receipt? Dow will be requesting you fill in a form confirming you have received these funds. If you are a Registered Charity, you may be asked to provide a charitable tax receipt for our accounting purposes only.
