1 Dear law exchange student, Welcome to ESADE Law Exchange Program 2013/14! We will be very glad to host you in Barcelona. Please find here relevant information regarding the application and course registration process for your term at ESADE. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS We received your online nomination from your home university and please know that to complete your application we require to receive from you the following documents before July 15 th and by post. Pedralbes E Barcelona (Spain) ACCEPTANCE DOCUMENTS ESADE Registrar s Office will be sending you in the following days an with a scanned copy of your ESADE acceptance letter as well as your username/password to access ESADE intranet (MyESADE). Original documents will follow by post to the Study Abroad Office of your home university. ESADE Registrar s Officer: Laura Collado laura.collado@esade.edu STUDENT VISA The ESADE acceptance letter is for visa purpose. All applicants from non-eu nations need a visa to study in Spain. In order to get a visa, all students must apply at the embassy or consulate in their home country at least 2 months ahead of time. 2 LAW ACADEMIC CALENDAR 2013/14 (for EU or Erasmus students) Exchange students are encouraged to arrive earlier to secure accommodation prior to the start of the program. Students should arrive not later than the day before the first day of the term. (*) IMPORTANT NOTE: Exchange students are requested to stay until the end of the scheduled exams. No special dates for exams to be arranged. Please pay attention to exam dates when booking any flights. FALL 2013 Spanish Language course August 26 th to September 6 th, 2013 Orientation Program September 3 rd to September 9 th, 2013 First day of the term & Welcome Day September 9 th 2013 Term Dates including exams(*) September 9 th 2013 to January 17 th, 2014 SPRING 2014 Spanish Language course January 13 th to 24 th, 2014 Orientation Program January 21 st to 27 th, 2014 First day of the term & Welcome Day January 27 th 2014 Term Dates including exams (*) January 27 th to May 30 th, 2014 MyESADE While you are preparing for your study term here, you will find in MyESADE (ESADE intranet) ww.esade.edu important information to help your transition to ESADE and to Barcelona (course offer and description, online course registration, dates for the Spanish Language free course, housing options, buddy service ). We would advise you to visit this site on a regular basis to check the latest academic information available. Around the end of May most of the information will be available online. Law Courses & Syllabus Language of Instruction Credit system Workload Course Registration Course Attendance Law courses offered both at Undergraduate and Master s level. Fall term: Spanish and English Spring term: Spanish. Spanish B2 certificate or equivalent required ECTS credit system. 30 ECTS per semester All registrations should be requested on-line only, through the ESADE Intranet at the dates set at the beginning of July. Attendance is required in all courses.

3 ORIENTATION PROGRAM At the beginning of each semester, ESADE Law School organises an orientation program for all new exchange students. Exchange students are strongly encouraged to participate in it. The final Orientation Program will be available around May in MyESADE. The ESADE LAW orientation program includes: Spanish language course with no cost for the student. The language online registration will be at the same time as the law courses online registration and through ESADE intranet. Please see the dates above. City tour around Barcelona with the International Relations team and the ESADE buddies. Welcome Day: the first day of the term we organize a welcome session by the Law Faculty directors and International Relations Unit. We provide students with detailed information about registration procedures and courses. This session will also include an introduction to Barcelona and Spain, housing advice, Alumni Association and Library resources. BUDDY SERVICE ESADE International Student Association (CIEE) offers a buddy service for exchange students. Their main aim is to help exchange students get used to their new academic, urban and social surroundings. CIEE organises welcome parties, cultural trips and others. 4 ESADE LAW SCHOOL - BARCELONA-PEDRALBES CAMPUS ESADE LAW SCHOOL is located in a residential neighbourhood called Pedralbes in the upper part of Barcelona. The main building is located at the top of Avinguda Pedralbes on the right-hand side of the street if you are coming up from the centre of town. It can be easily reached by: Metro: Line 3 - Green Maria Cristina stop, 15 minute walk Ferrocarrils Catalans: local commuter railway Reina Elisenda stop, 10 minute walk Buses: 78, 63, 75, 22 and 64, for a 5 minute walk Taxi: Taxis provide fast service in Barcelona. The fare from the city centre, Plaça Catalunya to ESADE is about 15. 5 WHERE STUDENTS SHOULD GO WHEN ARRIVING TO ESADE First of all, law exchange students should report their arrival at the Registrar s Office (building 1, main entrance). This is the Office for all academic matters before and during your stay at ESADE. Information students will be given by the Registrar s officer on arrival: Course schedule and final registration with a list of the courses students will be taking at ESADE. Students who were unable to register for any course for reasons of overcrowding/cancellation or who were enrolled on a waiting list should also check with the Registrar s Office to see if there have been any changes in their situation. Student mail box number, where all course material will be delivered and where you will pick up your Student identification card (which not only proves they are enrolled at ESADE, but also gives them access to the school library). A form to be filled out with your address and telephone number in Barcelona. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT HANDBOOK: housing, VISA, paperwork, insurance, Exchange students can check online the International Student Hanbook with relevant information about housing, paperwork, insurance, moving around Barcelona. It is published on MyESADE in INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMS / EXCHANGE STUDENTS GUIDE. MEDICAL INSURANCE All incoming students are required to have valid medical insurance coverage for the entire time they are in Spain. Proof of health insurance with international coverage will be required to complete your application. For visa application purposes, 30,000 of coverage plus repatriation insurance is considered standard. However, terms may differ depending on your country of origin so ESADE recommends that you request complete information from the Spanish Consulate and your insurance company before coming to Spain. Students form EU/EEA countries need to bring the European Health Insurance Card for medical assistance from the Spanish public health system. Students from Non-EU countries are required to arrange private insurance to cover medical care in Spain and check with the insurance company about the specific details and exact procedure to follow should they need medical attention while in Spain.
