10 A Selection of Our Current Apprentices Alex Joel Hannah Location: Head Office, Basingstoke Qualification: Business Administration (Higher) Department: Global Freight Management I chose to apply for the Gist Apprenticeship Scheme because I knew that I didn t want to go to university. I studied Business throughout school and college and knew this was what I wanted to pursue once I had left education. I came across Gist and the Apprenticeship Scheme through registering my interest on an apprenticeship website and was identified as a suitable candidate to progress to a telephone interview. People may assume that Logistics is simply moving product from one area to another. However, I am already dealing with different countries such as Dubai, Singapore and Malaysia which is something I never realised I would be a part of. My responsibility increases regularly which is something I appreciate. I think that anyone who is considering applying for the Apprenticeship Scheme at Gist should do it. Gist is a very people focussed business which is how I know I ve come to the right place. It has exceeded my expectations and I am pleased with how far I have already come. Location: Spalding Qualification: Logistics (Advanced) Department Warehouse Operations What I love most about working for Gist is the scope of opportunities that could come my way. I grew up not knowing what I wanted to be or what I wanted to do with my life and Gist gave me that first stepping stone into making something of myself. My role is made up of a few different parts, it depends on what shift I have been allocated for that day. My role may include making sure the day shift are starting their day as smoothly as possible, making sure that I get a complete handover from the nightshift manager, and gathering all the information I need to complete the morning report. The rest of the shift will be making sure I get things ready for the members of staff on the late shift. Every day is different, nothing is the same as the last day, nothing is dull or the standard 9 to 5, it engages you so that you keep going forward, you keep bettering yourself. Location: Head Office, Basingstoke Qualification: Logistics (Advanced) Department: Network Planning I enjoy the fact that my job is different and presents me with new challenges every day. I work in a friendly environment and my team support my development and help me to deliver my work to a great standard. I like the fact that I am able to travel and see the depots I work with and understand how my planning impacts them on a day to day basis. The biggest challenge of my role so far has been coming from college and a part time job to working full time. This is because I now need to work independently rather than being told what to do, being able to do this is really rewarding. One of the highlights of my apprenticeship was passing my intermediate level qualification; I am now working towards the advanced level! If someone was considering applying for the Gist apprenticeship I would advise them to research Gist and the role you will be doing as this will help you in your interview process. 10 Apprenticeship Schemes
11 Selection Process Throughout our selection process, you will be assessed against Gist s Critical Performance Requirements (CPR s) which are a selection of essential behaviours that are required at Gist. These are: Personal Effectiveness Drive Leading and Energising Focus on the Critical Delivering Results Application Form Online via: Telephone Interview minute competency based telephone interview with a member of the Gist HR team. Assessment Centre Located at one of our operational depots, and includes a guided tour, a presentation to introduce you to Gist, the chance to talk to some of our current Apprentices, a competency based interview, presentation exercise and a group exercise.
