3 Gwani Software TRAINING DEPARTMENT Microsoft Word General Description: - This course is intended to provide basic word processing skills needed to design & edit documents in MS Word. Aims: - The aims of this course are to: 1. Avail the trainee with the knowledge of word processing packages. 2. Drill the trainee on file management capabilities of MS Word. 3. Drill the trainee on font & text formatting in MS Word. 4. Drill the trainee on working with list, table, media clips, spell checker, dictionary, tracking and data facilities of MS Word. 5. Drill the trainee on how to write letters & faxes, resume, web pages and portfolio in MS Word. Objectives: - The trainee at the end of the training session should be able to; Know common word processing packages available. Know how to perform file management operations in MS Word. Know how to carry out text & font formatting works in MS Word. Know how to work with list, table, media clips, spellchecker, dictionary, tracking and sorting of data in MS Word. Design letter & faxes, resume, web page and port-folio in MS Word. Target Audience: - This course should be taken by anyone who uses or intend to use a computer at home or office. 3
4 Pre-requisite:- Getting started with Computer & the Internet is a standing pre-requisite to this course. Knowledge of computing fundamentals is an added advantage. Approximate Duration: - This course requires 21 hours of class session with practical. Method of Assessment: - the trainee is to be assessed with word processing project which will later be assessed and graded. Methodology:- The class takes a lesson discusses it then proceeds to conduct practical on it and moves to the next lesson in the same fashion until all the lessons are adequately covered. Recommended Resource Materials: - The following materials are considered resourceful and relevant to this course and are therefore recommended; 1. Day Lesson 1. Introduction;- Definition & example of word processing packages, MS Office, members of the MS Office Family, Versions, icon, launching the packages, getting started task pane, new document, toolbars, introducing the MS Word screen, typing exercise and exiting MS Word. 2. Typesetting: - Typing exercise, adding a page, setting page margins & orientation, alignment, indenting, setting styles. File Management: - Opening a file, saving, fast saving, back-up, re-saving, other supported format. 3. List: - Creating list, ordered list, bullet list, redefining list, adjusting list margins, sub-listing, highlighting, indenting in list. 4. Font editing: - Font face, font size, font style (bold, italic, 4
5 underline, regular), striking, superscript, subscript, font color, background color. Paragraph & Page: - Line spacing, paragraph indenting, pagination, header & footer, page border, line border, art border. 5. Table:- Inserting table, adding rows, adding columns, resizing table, typing data into table, merging cells, splitting cells, splitting tables, table design, aligning table. 6. Picture, image, and multimedia clips: - Inserting picture from scanner, inserting picture from a file, inserting an image, inserting clip art, inserting shapes (lines, basic shapes, block arrows, flowcharts, callouts, stars & banners), inserting chart. 7. Printing:- Print preview, choosing a printer, document image writer, number of copies, printing selected area, selecting pages to print, odd pages, even pages, using one cartridge, draft, normal, fast draft, confidential. 8. Letter Wizards: - Inserting the letter wizard, typing formal letter using the wizard, typing semi-formal letter using the wizard, typing non-formal letter using the wizard. 9. Introduction to web page development:- Changing view (print, normal, web, outline, draft), background color, designing a page, saving a page, opening page in browser, inserting hyperlink and cross reference. 10. Designing Portfolio: - Using web page design skill acquired from the previous lesson, trainee should design his portfolio. 11. Designing Resume: - Using resume wizard, the trainee should be shown how to design a resume (CV). 12. Typesetting Document: - the trainee should be given a typing of more than two pages document. 13. Drawings & Graphics:- lines, drawing of shapes, symbols, copying from character map, other alphabets- Greeks, Latin, Arabic and others. 14. Dictionary & Spell checking: - Translation, thesaurus, spell checking, dictionary, synonyms, proof reading, clearing wavy lines. 15. Clipboard operations: - Copying, pasting, moving, deleting, 5
6 multiple copy, paste special. 16. Search editing: - Finding substring, replacing substring, searching again. 17. Text: - Inserting textbox, inserting word art, word art gallery, drop cap, signature line, date & time. 18. Tracking: - Track changes, accept changes, reject changes, compare documents. 19. Data: - Sorting, converting text to table, converting table to text, inserting comment. 20. Installation: - Installation of Ms-office. 21. Revision. 6
