Square D Clipsal 110 Outdoor PIR Motion Sensor A2 Instruction Bulletin 11/2007 INTRODUCTION Before You Begin This bulletin provides instructions for installing the Square D Clipsal Outdoor PIR Motion Sensor. The SLC5750WPL outdoor motion sensor is a ruggedly built C-Bus input unit that can be mounted on a vertical or horizontal surface. The unit uses a passive infrared receiver (PIR) to detect thermal-based radiation emitted from a moving body, covering up to 3000 ft² (279 m²) with a 110 field of view. Advanced circuits and a flat multi-segmented lens ensure immediate reaction to body movement and few dead zones. The PIR motion sensor works in conjunction with a built-in light-level sensor, issuing commands only when movement is detected and the ambient light-level falls below the pre-set light-level threshold (see section Sensor Operations ). The C-Bus Toolkit software is used to configure the options, which include an adjustable time-out for the PIR; Sunrise/Sunset settings with time delay for the light-level sensor; and a status indicator LED. Before installing an outdoor PIR motion sensor, verify that your order is complete by comparing the contents of the package with the list in the table "Contents of the Box." Also verify that the catalog number on the box label matches your order. NOTE: The outdoor PIR sensor has a cardboard lens protector that should be left in place until it is time to test the unit Schneider Electric. All Rights Reserved.

A2 Square D Clipsal 110 Outdoor PIR Motion Sensor 11/2007 Instruction Bulletin Sensor Operations Two conditions must be met before the occupancy sensor will issue commands to the output units: The motion sensor must detect movement and the light-level sensor must detect levels of ambient light that are below the threshold that has been set. If movement is detected but the ambient light level is not below the light-level threshold, the sensor unit will not issue a command to output units. Also, if the light-level is below the threshold but the PIR does not detect movement, no command will be issued. The motion sensor and light-level sensor have time settings that can be configured with the C-Bus Toolkit software. A time-out setting for the PIR controls how long the unit waits to turn off the load when there has been no movement. A time-delay adjustment for the Sunrise/Sunset setting can be used to control a separate group address from that used by the PIR. The time-delay adjustment determines how long a load will remain on when light levels fall below the threshold. Field of View The unit s motion sensor has a detection range of 3000 ft² (279 m²) and a 110 field of view. The motion sensor has a continuous detection field composed of 48 overlapping detection zones. These zones are distributed in 4 layers extending over the range of coverage: a layer of 4 Ultra Short zones are active at 4 ft from the sensor, a layer of 10 Short zones are active at 13 ft from the sensor, a layer of 16 Intermediate zones are active at 25 ft from the sensor, and a layer of 18 Long zones are active at 59 ft from the sensor (see the table Coverage Layers and Nominal Range of Coverage and the associated field of view figures). 9 A2 Square D Clipsal 110 Outdoor PIR Motion Sensor 11/2007 Instruction Bulletin Mounting and Orientation The effective range of the unit will depend on how it is mounted and the operating conditions, such as temperature and the size or speed of an approaching object or person. The unit s field of view will be best when it is mounted in a vertical position at a height of 8 ft (2.4 m) above the ground or floor so that the sensors will have a clear field of view. When selecting a location for the sensor, find an area that is away from objects that can create rapid temperature changes, such as air-conditioning or heating vents or fountains. Any stable flat surface can be used for mounting, including a wall or ceiling. A standard wall box or wall plate can also be used. Orient the lens so that the approach path is across the field of view, not directly toward the sensor (see the optimal approach path in figure Field of View (from top) ). Adjustable Neck Assembly An adjustable neck assembly with ball joints at each pivot point makes it possible to mount the sensor in a vertical or horizontal position. For re-alignment instructions, see the section Positioning and Aligning the Sensor Unit. Network Considerations The 110 Outdoor PIR Motion Sensor can draw 18 ma from the C-Bus network. Determine the total network current load and verify that there will be enough C-Bus power to support all connected devices. Also verify that the amount of available power per C-Bus network is no more than 2A Schneider Electric. All Rights Reserved. 9
Square D Clipsal 110 Outdoor PIR Motion Sensor A2 Instruction Bulletin 11/2007 CONFIGURING, LABELING, AND RECORDING THE LOCATIONS OF C-BUS UNITS C-Bus units must be configured, at a minimum, with the unit address and part name before being physically installed on the network. Each unit is identified by a unique serial number found on the box label (see the figure Example of a Box Label with Lift-and-Peel Section ). The serial number provides important information for recording a unit's location. An infrared barcode scanner may be used to read the box label's bar code for the serial number and unit information. Use the C-Bus Toolkit to assign the unit a unique address, and then mark the unit address and part name directly onto the unit before physical installation. You can use the lift-and-peel label from the unit box, or write the unit address and part name directly on the unit. After marking the unit, record each unit's physical location onto a site plan or panel schedule. Figure 4: Example of a Box Label with Lift-and-Peel Section KEY: A. Serial number B. Bar code C. Lift-and-peel section HAZARD OF UNEXPECTED OR UNINTENDED OPERATION Properly configure, label, and record the location of each unit. Retain location records and provide them to the person(s) responsible for configuring and commissioning the network. Cover the heads of the screws by inserting the screw-hole caps. Megger Testing Guidelines Do not Megger test C-Bus data cabling or terminals. Megger testing of data cabling or terminals can degrade the performance of the C-Bus network. It will not harm the C-Bus units if electrical power terminals only are Megger tested. But because C-Bus units contain electronic components, the Megger readings will not be correct. To obtain valid readings, disconnect the power lines from the C-Bus units Schneider Electric. All Rights Reserved.
A2 Square D Clipsal 110 Outdoor PIR Motion Sensor 11/2007 Instruction Bulletin HAZARD OF C-BUS NETWORK PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION Do not Megger test C-Bus data cabling or terminals as it can degrade the performance of the C-Bus network. Failure to follow this instruction will result in damage to the C-Bus network. Positioning and Aligning the Sensor Unit To operate effectively, the PIR Motion Sensor must be positioned and aligned correctly. The effective range will depend on proper mounting as well as extraneous conditions, such as the background temperature, the speed of an approaching object or body, and the types of clothing that are worn. NOTE: Protect the sensor lens from damage by leaving the cardboard lens protector in place on the sensor window until it is time to verify installation. Positioning Guidelines Use the guidelines in this section to determine where to position a unit in its designated area. Position the unit 8 ft (2.4 m) or more above the ground or floor so that the field of view will not be obstructed. Position the unit so that the approach path is across the face of the sensor. Select a stable mounting surface that will not be moved by the wind or other causes. Select an area away from objects that can create rapid temperature changes (e.g., not near air-conditioning vents, heater flues, or sprinklers). Select a location where the unit can be easily accessed. Do not cover the unit Schneider Electric. All Rights Reserved. 17
Square D Clipsal 110 Outdoor PIR Motion Sensor A2 Instruction Bulletin 11/2007 Neck Assembly The neck assembly of the PIR Motion Sensor has ball joints at each pivot point, so the sensor head can be placed in almost any position after installation. Verifying Installation A Walk Test is performed to verify that the sensor has been installed correctly. Part of this procedure requires using the sensoradjustment screw to change the light-level setting. The sections below outline how to use the light-level sensor-adjustment screw and how to perform the walk test. NOTE: Testing a sensor s installation requires connection to the powered ON C-Bus network Schneider Electric. All Rights Reserved.
A2 Square D Clipsal 110 Outdoor PIR Motion Sensor 11/2007 Instruction Bulletin Sensor-Adjustment Screw Figure 12: Setting the Sensor-Adjustment Screw KEY: A. " " Highest light-level threshold, light level never goes above it, so load will always turn on for motion (fully counter-clockwise at about 8 o clock) B. "+" Lowest light-level threshold, light level never goes below it, so load is unlikely to turn on with motion (fully counter-clockwise at about 4 o clock) C. Direction to turn the sensor-adjustment screw (counter-clockwise for the Walk Test, clockwise for most settings) The sensor-adjustment screw has a 270 range-of-motion, with stops at approximately 8 o clock and 4 o clock. At 8 o clock the lightlevel threshold is 150 footcandles, at 4 o clock the light-level threshold is 0 footcandles. When the adjustment screw has been turned fully counterclockwise to 8 o clock, the light-level threshold is so high that ambient light levels will always fall below. So long as there is motion, a load will remain on. When the adjustment screw has been turned fully clockwise to 4 o clock, the light-level threshold is so low that ambient light levels will virtually never fall below. Even if motion is detected, it is unlikely that the load will come on. Turning the adjustment screw clockwise from 8 o clock lowers the light-level threshold. When the adjustment screw is set to about 11 o clock, the load will not come on while ambient light-levels are sufficient. When the screw is set to about 1 o clock, the load will be turned on for motion occurring at dusk. When the screw is set to about 3 o clock, the load will be turned on for motion occurring at night Schneider Electric. All Rights Reserved. 21
Square D Clipsal 110 Outdoor PIR Motion Sensor A2 Instruction Bulletin 11/2007 Performing the Walk Test NOTE: After connection to the C-Bus network, the unit must be allowed to stabilize for at least two minutes before it is tested. 1. Turn on the power to the unit and let it stabilize for at least two minutes before proceeding. 2. Remove the cardboard lens protector that covers the sensor window. 3. After two minutes, use the sensor-adjustment screwdriver to turn the light-level sensor-adjustment screw fully counter-clockwise until it stops at about 8 o clock (see figure Setting the Sensor- Adjustment Screw ). The adjustment screw rotates 270 be careful not to force the screw beyond its range of travel. 4. Using the C-Bus Toolkit software, set up the sensor unit to control a load and set the PIR time-out interval to one second. 5. If necessary, loosen the clamp nuts on the neck adjustment assembly and aim the sensor head toward the desired field of view. Tighten the clamp nuts and remove the card that protects the lens. 6. Slowly walk around in the desired field of view (around the room, through doorways, etc.) to verify that the load is activated in the correct area. If you encounter problems, loosen the clamp nuts and re-orient the viewing lens. Also refer to the section Troubleshooting Guide. 7. When you have verified that the sensor has been installed correctly, you are ready to finish configuring the sensor unit Schneider Electric. All Rights Reserved.
