2 AmericanAirFilter HEPA Filtration Systems OUR QUALIFICATIONS Superior Protection AmericanAirFilter fixed and portable filtration systems are designed to help create airborne infection isolation rooms. These systems meet or exceed the engineering control sections from the CDC TB Guidelines (1994) and from OSHA s TB Regulations (1996). All models are classified as a Class II medical device. Tamper Resistance Clear polycarbonate locking hex key covers protect against unauthorized control panel and filter compartment access. Combination or key locks are optional for an even higher level of safety and security. Filter compartment access is also restricted by a hex lock. Exceptional Performance Backward curved motorized impellers provide excellent airflow output, even as the filters load. These special impellers can operate at significantly higher static resistance than forward inclined squirrel cage blowers. As a result, healthcare facilities can obtain superior air changes and negative pressure under real-life operating conditions. Versatility All models are fully equipped to operate in either a 100% recirculation mode or 100% negative pressure mode, and the HFS800C and HFS800F dual blower models can operate in both modes simultaneously. 4 HFS800F FREE STANDING / PORTABLE HEPA FILTRATION SYSTEM The HFS800F is the most versatile AmericanAirFilter model, with numerous infection control applications for the healthcare facility. It can be used as a portable system for movement from room to room on its stable, easy-to-move caster cart. If necessary, it can be removed from its cart for operation as a fixed device. The HFS800F can be utilized in any of three operating modes: negative pressure only, recirculation only, or simultaneous exhaust of 50% of the filtered air and recirculation of the other 50%. Dual (top and back) exhaust outlets further add to the versatility of the HFS800F. The HFS800F is designed specifically to enable a healthcare facility to quickly and inexpensively convert a standard patient room to a negative pressure isolation room. It can also be rolled into an ER, OR, ICU, or radiology suite when an airborne infection isolation room is required. It can be used as a recirculating device in outpatient clinics, waiting areas, and other common use areas where the status of patients and visitors is unknown. This powerful system delivers up to 700 cfm operating airflow at the HIGH speed setting. As a result, the HFS800F can typically provide above 12 air changes per hour in rooms up to 2,500 HFS800F Filter Access cubic feet. Variable speed controls enable the HFS800F to be run at lower speeds where less airflow is required. The HFS800F control and filter compartments are conveniently located and easily accessed by authorized personnel. Both compartments are equipped with special hex key locks to protect against unauthorized access and tampering. HFS800F 4

5 HFS800C CEILING / DUCT HEPA FILTRATION SYSTEM HFS800C mounts into a standard 2 ft. x 4 ft. drop ceiling panel, completely out of the way of patients and staff. This model is ideally suited for situations where floor or wall space is limited and the highest level of tamperresistance is needed. The HFS800C has numerous infection control applications throughout a healthcare facility, including: treatment rooms, ER, ICU, outpatient clinics, OR, autopsy rooms, radiology suites, waiting rooms, and other areas where airborne infection isolation is required. With an air filtration rate of up to 700 cfm at the HIGH speed setting, more than 12 air changes per hour are typically achievable in rooms as large as 2,500 cubic feet. Variable speed controls enable the user to set the airflows as desired. Electrical controls for the HFS800C are contained in a separate, wall-mounted enclosure that is designed to be hard wired to the unit. This lockable enclosure can be located within, or adjacent to, the room in which the HFS800C is used, or in a remote area such as a nurse s station or central monitoring area. HFS800C filters are room-accessible for fast, easy filter changes. The filter compartment is also equipped with a hex key lock to protect against tampering or unauthorized access. Two above-the-ceiling exhaust outlets are provided, one on a horizontal surface and the other on a vertical surface. Either or both outlets can be used for recirculation or exhaust, or 50% of the filtered air can be recirculated through one outlet and the other 50% can be simultaneously bled off for exhaust to the outdoors. Four mounting tabs are more than sufficient to safely suspend the HFS800C; however, six tabs are provided to meet the requirements of more stringent local building codes. 6 HFS400C DUCT-MOUNTED HEPA FILTRATION SYSTEM HFS400C HFS400C Optional Security Switch The HFS400C is designed for direct connection into a wall or ceiling return air duct. It fits perfectly into a 2 ft. x 2 ft. drop ceiling panel opening for a return air grill. Extremely quiet, the HFS400C operates at less than 55 dba when installed in the ceiling. The single speed HFS400C is powered by a 600 cfm motorized impeller that provides a peak operating airflow of 325 cfm. Filtered air can be exhausted directly outside for negative pressure applications or recirculated back into the room for continuous air cleaning. This model is ideally suited for smaller rooms (1,200 cubic feet or less). Multiple units can be utilized in larger areas. The HFS400C is designed to be hard wired to a standard 2-way wall switch that can be located within the room or in a remote area. An optional wall switch with security lock is available to protect against tampering. Filter compartment access is controlled by a hex key lock, and both filters are room-accessible for fast replacement. The HFS400C can also be used to provide additional air exhaust in rooms where frequent or prolonged door openings make it difficult to maintain negative pressure with one AmericanAirFilter system. This is best accomplished by wiring the HFS400C to the output of an AmericanAirFilter pressure monitor for automatic activation whenever the room s negative pressure drops below the recommended level. The small size and out-of-the-way design of the HFS400C also make it ideally suited for doctor s waiting rooms and examination rooms. 6

7 HEPA Accessory Products DUCTING Flexible and semi-rigid ducting is available to fit all models. Clear, wirereinforced flex duct is available in 12-1/2 ft. and 25 ft. lengths. Corrugated aluminum semi-rigid ducting, which meets UL Class 0 (non-combustible) requirements, is available in 8 ft. lengths. For maximum airflow, the use of metal 8 in. x 12 in. rectangular ducting is recommended. DUCT ATTACHMENT COLLARS Slide-in exhaust collars quickly and easily attach to exhaust ducting for negative pressure operation. Rectangular/square collars are recommended for use with rigid metal ducting. The 8 in. diameter round collars can be used with rigid, semi-rigid, or flexible ducting. The HFS2240 quick-connect collars are used to attach the exhaust end of round ducting to a solid surface. SUPPLY AIR DIFFUSER PREFILTERS All AmericanAirFilter prefilters utilize a special filter media treated with Intersept, a broad spectrum microbial growth inhibitor. The presence of Intersept antimicrobial preservative is intended to inhibit active growth of organisms in contact with the filter media during normal use. Special prefilters are available for smoke and odors. HEPA FILTERS Each AmericanAirFilter HEPA filter is individually tested and certified to a minimum efficiency of 99.99% at 0.3 microns. This provides three times the effectiveness required by national standards. These filters are housed in an anodized aluminum frame that will not swell in times of high humidity, and have a plastic scrim to protect the filter media from damage. FILTER CHANGES SILICONE GEL SEAL AmericanAirFilter HEPA filters also feature a channel of silicone gel that seals around a knife edge blade. This leak-proof seal, combined with the aluminum frame, protects against any bypass of contaminated air. TRANSITIONAL COLLAR To minimize airflow losses caused by static resistance, a special transitional collar is available for use with 8 in. and 10 in. round ducting. This collar can be used with AmericanAirFilter models HFS800F, HFS800C, and HFS400C. The HFSVW8-C diffuser fits onto a 2 ft. x 2 ft. drop ceiling grid. Made from lightweight aluminum, it is used to recirculate filtered air back into a room or an anteroom. Its white grill blends in with surrounding ceiling tiles. All AmericanAirFilter models are equipped with a locking filter compartment access door for safety and security. Once unlocked, filters are readily accessible for fast, easy replacement. SECURITY LOCK An optional tamper-resistant combination security lock fits all AmericanAirFilter control panels. 7

8 Differential Pressure Monitor and Remote Annunciator The HFSRPM-I differential pressure monitor and HFSAN-I remote annunciator provide continuous monitoring and alarming of differential pressure conditions. These products can be used in both negative and positive differential pressure rooms. DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE MONITOR The solid state HFSRPM-I differential pressure monitor provides continuous monitoring of differential pressure with a range of to +0.1 in. w.c. (water column). Differential pressure is displayed digitally on the front panel, with a resolution of.001 in. w.c. or 0.1 Pascals. Bright red (alarm) and green (normal) LED s on the front panel indicate the differential status. The HFSRPM-I is equipped with a surge dampener to prevent nuisance alarming caused by short duration pressure fluctuations. The monitor will not go into the alarm (flashing red LED) mode until it remains in the alarm condition for 30 seconds. Once the unit does go into the alarm condition the red LED will continue blinking until normal conditions are restored. REMOTE ANNUNCIATOR The HFSAN-I Single point remote annunciator is designed for use with the HFSRPM-I differential pressure monitor. It is typically wall mounted in a nurse s station, maintenance office, or any area in which remote annunciation is required to provide both audible and visual warning of alarm conditions. A built-in time delay, which is adjustable from 5 to 45 seconds, enables the HFSAN-I to avoid nuisance alarming caused by short duration pressure surges. If the alarm condition persists beyond this preset time delay, the annunciator goes into alarm condition with a flashing red LED and audible alarm. The audible alarm can be silenced momentarily by pressing the ACK ( acknowledge ) button, but the red LED will continue to flash until normal conditions are restored. When this occurs the green LED returns to a steady ON condition.
