2 Using this in your classroom: This activity should take 3-4 days. Below is a short outline on how to introduce and implement this writing project in your classroom. Day One: Hang the Notice Elf for Hire poster in your classroom where the students can look over it and discuss it before you actually introduce the writing lesson. Once students have seen the notice and it is time for your writing lesson, tell your students that they will be writing a persuasive paper about why they would be an excellent elf at the North Pole. You will require all students to apply. Pass out the graphic organizer. Do one as an example with the class before they do their own. The graphic organizer will help them organize their thoughts and ideas. Day Two: Student will write a rough draft of their persuasive paper. Use the template provided or have students use regular lined paper. Day Three: This is editing day. Students can do a peer edit and you can do a teacher edit as needed. Day Four: This is publishing day. There are three different writing template papers that students can use for their published work. There is also a page where students can design and create a toy for the Christmas season. Common Core writing standards 4 th Grade: Students will be able to write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information. 5 th Grade: Students will be able to write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information. 6 th Grade: Students will be able to write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

Introduce your opinion and reasons that will be discussed in your body paragraphs. Body Paragraphs: Each body paragraph should highlight a reason you support your opinion mentioned in your introduction, as well as provide a piece of evidence that supports that reason. Don t Forget to use transitions!

6 Conclusion: Wrap up your statements and thoughts here. Challenge the reader, ask a thought-provoking question, or restate your ideas in a new way. Your rough draft is now done! After a self/peer edit and teacher edit it will be time to publish your work.
