What would be your favorite part of being a Construction Project Manager?

Look in the Occupational Outlook Handbook (online) to find out the following details about being a construction project manager: a. Median Pay: b. Entry-Level Education: c. Work Experience Needed: d. Job Outlook: 6. What are some universities that offer a degree in construction project management? Apply It Your teacher is going to give you the title and a short paragraph about what a construction company wants. It is your job to be the construction project manager! You need to answer the following questions as to how you would complete the job.
4 1. What is your plan going to be? You have the final dead line that everything needs to be done by, so make your own time line when each part of the project needs to be done by so that you and your team make the deadline. 2. Who are you going to hire? Or what staff are you going to need to bring with you to the construction site in order to get the job done? 3. How are you going to organize your workers? How are you going to split the work load? 4. How are you going to direct your workers? What is going to be your management style? 5. What standards are you going to hold your workers to? Are you going to be strict or lenient? Explain. Assess It You are now going to use the information that you wrote down above to create a few things. First you will be making a diorama of your project. Second you will be creating a portfolio of a few different documents and pictures that give details about the process of building the project. You will then present your project to your peers. 1. Build a diorama that represents what you would like your project to look like once you are done with it. Make sure you take pictures while you are building, so that you can use them as your construction pictures for your portfolio. 2. For your portfolio you will need to write and design the following: a. Cover Page For Project b. Background Information about the Project: Who, What, Where, When, Why
5 c. Explanation of your Management Style d. Timeline for the project e. List of employees, their job titles, and what their role is for the construction project f. List of Tasks, what needs to be done for each task, and who is to complete each task g. Conclusion: How the project turned out, what went on during your time line, any problems that you ran into, pictures should included (You can take pictures of you building your diorama as your building phase pictures) 3. Once you have both your diorama and portfolio complete you will be presenting your project to your peers and teacher. The presentations will be similar to a construction fair. Each student will have a desk where their diorama will sit with their portfolio. You will then be a presenter, and a reviewer. When you are the presenter you are trying to sell your skills for being a construction manager. You need to persuade your classmates using your diorama and portfolio that you would be a good candidate for their next project. As a reviewer you must act as if you are looking to employ a construction manager. You will then fill out a rubric as a reviewer for a few of your classmates. 4. Your teacher will then collect all of the peer worksheets and a portion of your grade will be from your peer review. Expand It 1. Find a construction project manager in your area and interview them. Ask them about their daily life, and what their job is all about! 2. Find construction projects in your area and see if they have blueprints or plans for the construction. You may also be able to find a timeline for the construction project. You will then need to write a summary about the project. Including details that you have learned from your lesson.
