1 Trauma Center Trauma Center in the nation
2 Trauma Center Trauma Center in the nation Letter from the Directors The Trauma Center at has a long-standing history of being a local, regional and national leader in trauma and burn care. Last year alone, our program provided trauma care for over 3,000 patients that needed the highly-specialized care of our Trauma Program. We are the region s only American College of Surgeons (ACS) Verified Level I Trauma Center and one of only two in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. An ACS-Verified Level I Trauma Center means that the institution has achieved the highest level of verification to deliver care to those who need it the most. It means that we are equipped to handle any and all significant injuries in a state-of-the-art facility staffed by an experienced and dedicated team of professionals who are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Every three years, we are reviewed by the ACS to make sure we are providing all the needed resources, delivering the optimal patient care and ensuring the best quality outcomes for patients. Within this report, you will find information about our trauma and burn programs, as well as information on some of the patients we have cared for over the years. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for trusting us with your patients and for supporting our program. We realize that we cannot be a Trauma Center without the hard work and dedication of many individuals outside of our organization. Our regional partners, referring hospitals and pre-hospital personnel are critical to our mission of providing the best available care to those in our community. Thank you for all your efforts, and we hope that you find this information useful. Brian G. Harbrecht, MD, FACS Medical Director Trauma Services Ben Hughes, RN, MSN, MS Director Trauma Institute University of Louisville Hospital Trauma Team

My name is Brad Swope, and after my cycling accident, life was touch and go for a while. However, because I was at University of Louisville Hospital s Trauma Center, I knew I was in the right place. When I first woke up after my accident, I remember being in the Emergency Room with my wife, Ann. At that point, I wasn t worried about myself. I was concerned about Ann, but the staff wasn t just caring for me - they were caring for her too. What they can do with their hands is no doubt a miracle. I just didn t realize what they could do with their hearts as well. View my story stories.uoflhealthcare.org
