2 Introducing the new recycle for Dorset service Your new recycle for Dorset recycling and rubbish collection service starts the week of Monday 13 October This leaflet explains how it will work. If you feel the containers will not meet your household s needs, you must contact us no later than Thursday 19 June. If you contact us after this date there may be a significant delay before any changes can be made. Why do we need a new service? Dorset councils, working together as the Dorset Waste Partnership, have agreed to introduce a single collection service for Dorset to: drive down costs by 2 million a year increase Dorset s recycling from 50 to 65 per cent and reduce the amount of rubbish we send to landfill The service has already been successfully introduced in Christchurch, East Dorset, North Dorset, Purbeck and part of West Dorset. What does this mean for me? Households in Weymouth and Portland and part of West Dorset will start using the new service in October. Between August and September we will deliver the new containers and an information pack. Your collection calendar will be posted to you. You do not need to be at home for the delivery. What do I need to do? Please read this leaflet carefully. The new service is designed to be suitable for most households. However, if you think there is a genuine reason why the containers will not meet your needs, you must contact us no later than 19 June to request an exception. However, we will provide you with a free sample of compostable caddy liners to make your caddy easier to empty. You can also use newspaper. More liners can be bought from local shops and supermarkets look out for the compostable logo. 6 Requesting changes or help If you think there is a genuine reason why the new containers will not meet your household s needs, you must contact us to request different containers no later than 19 June. The deadline is important so we can assess all requests and deliver everyone their containers before October. If you request a change after 19 June there may be a long delay before we can make any changes to your service. Different containers You can request different containers if you think that: you have no outside space to store s or would have to wheel them through your house to be collected you will need a smaller bin for recycling because there are only one or two people in your household you will need larger capacity for rubbish because there are five or more people in your household, you have children in disposable nappies, or for medical reasons Help moving your containers If you think you will be unable to move the new containers to the kerbside because you are incapacitated or have a disability and there is no one else who can help, you can request an assisted collection from an agreed point on your property. All requests are assessed according to our policy and may be subject to a visit. We will review whether different containers and assisted collections are still needed periodically.
