Discuss the importance that wound debridement has on ulcer healing and its interaction with various wound products and adjunctive therapies. Recognize alterations in the biomechanical function of the diabetic patient resulting from disease-related complications such as neuropathy and deformity. Review the importance of offloading in conjunction with other wound therapies. Comprehend the role elective surgery may have in the prevention of diabetic foot complications. Relate the role that reconstructive surgery has in retaining limb function, amputation prevention and ambulation. Using case presentations describe the interaction of a multidisciplinary team approach to diabetic foot complications. Delineate the importance of vascular intervention and contrast various approaches to limb revascularization. Identify promising methodologies and techniques that will enhance the future care of the foot of diabetic patients.
