1 Freedom Project Lesson Three/ Course/Grade Level: U.S. History 8 th Grade Lesson Title: The Gettysburg Address and its impact on our country. Teacher: Jim Webb- Lincoln Middle School 1. Set Induction: Honoring all those who have died. a. Discuss why we celebrate Memorial Day. b. Students write down people they know who have served in the Armed Forces. c. Read Gettysburg Address from the textbook and poster. d. Go to show students how to navigate through the site. 2. Aims/Objectives and Standards: a. Student will gain knowledge of what was said by Lincoln at Gettysburg. b. Students will gain understanding and importance of Lincoln s address. c. Students will apply the principles that Lincoln espoused in the address. 3. Procedures, Assessments and Materials Required: a. Review Gettysburg Address as part of the Civil War unit. b. Make use of the Gettysburg Address poster and website. c. Review the Kids Discover Lincoln booklet. d. Students will work with partners through the project in their investigation. e. Discussion will take place in each area of the project. 4. Resources and Scholarship a. Creating America: McDougal Textbook b. Historical Pictures-FlickR/Google Documents c. d.
