3 Welcome and General Information Welcome to the 2016 Back to School information package for parents. If you have any queries regarding this information package please contact the Main School Office as soon as possible on between 8.30am and 4.30pm weekdays only. Please note that the office will close at 4.30pm on Tuesday 22 December 2015 and reopen on Monday 4 January In 2016 we are offering Year 7 families the option to pre-order their stationery and textbooks through the School and to collect them at The School Shop. This offer is strictly limited to those who complete the online order form by close of business on Friday 20 November Full information on this service can be found on page 7 of this booklet and is also included in the Year 7 information packages. The School have again engaged Birchalls to provide stationery and textbook sales to students through their Back to School Shop at the Showgrounds. The Back to School Shop will stock all the textbooks and stationery items as per our booklists, except where items are marked as supplied at school and charged to account. These items will be issued to students in class when needed and the cost charged to families via The Friends School Shop and fees accounts. The Birchalls Back to School Shop will also stock a limited supply of second hand textbooks. Birchalls will ensure that the books are the correct edition and that they are offered for sale in a reasonable condition. We do, however, urge you to check for yourself before buying. You can pay for Back to School purchases by EFTPOS, credit card (Visa & Mastercard only), cash, cheque, or by charging the amount to your School account. Birchalls also offer an online ordering system for your convenience. Further information on internet ordering is provided later in this booklet. From time to time, students may need to purchase additional stationery requirements and this can be done via The Friends School Shop. Further details are provided later in this booklet. 3

4 The Friends School Shop 1 Wilson Street North Hobart Phone: Facsimile: shop@friends.tas.edu.au Web: The Friends School Shop sells uniform items year round and, during term time, incidental stationery and text books. During the back to school period the Shop sells only uniform items and is a collection point for Year 7 stationery packs that were pre-ordered. Year 7 students who have not pre-ordered and students from Years 8-12 should ensure they have purchased their booklist items prior to the start of the school year. In term time the Shop sells stationery and text books for those occasions where students may need to make additional purchases. The Shop also supplies and charges out items that are listed on the booklist as supplied at school and charged to account. The Friends School Shop is open on school days with the exception of the last day of Terms 1, 2 and 3. Extended operating hours are in place at the beginning and end of each school year and these times are advertised on the shop section of the school webpage. Uniform sales are conducted on a payment at time of purchase basis and payment can be made by: cash, EFTPOS, Visa or Mastercard, or cheque made payable to The Friends School. Stationery and texts can be purchased by students and charged to the family fees account if they present their school library card at the time of purchase. Students may also charge hair bands, socks, tights, ties and hats in this method but all other uniform items must be paid for at time of purchase. For items that are purchased on a charge to family account basis, The School Shop collate sales at the end of each term and a total amount owing for each student will appear on the family fees account which will be accompanied by a detailed statement of purchases Term Time Opening Schedule From Monday 1 February, The Friends School Shop will be open during term time, excluding public holidays and the last day of Terms 1, 2 and 3, at the times below. 5 Uniform Sales The Friends School Shop All students from Kindergarten to Year 12 must wear The Friends School uniform as prescribed in the handbook for the relevant section of the school. The School Shop is the only authorised retailer of The Friends School uniform and stocks the full range of uniform items with the exception of school shoes. School Shop staff are able to assist you with the fitting and purchasing of uniform requirements during the back to school period and throughout the year. Every student is different, and size and fit of garments do vary throughout the range. Therefore it is important for students to come in for a fitting. As a guide, a complete uniform fitting for a new student usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. Second hand garments are also available for purchase but availability does vary. The Shop accepts second hand garments from parents year round subject to the terms and conditions detailed on the second hand lodgment form. Lodgment forms can be downloaded from the Shop section of the school website or a copy collected from the Shop. Uniform items are sold on a payment at time of purchase basis, with the Shop accepting cash, EFTPOS, credit card (Visa or Mastercard) or cheque (made payable to The Friends School). Back to School 2016 The Shop will open on the below schedule, selling uniform items only and for collection of preordered Year 7 Stationery. During the back to school period, all other stationery and book sales are conducted at the Birchalls Back to School Shop. 6 Student Subject Guide For Students in Years 7-12 For Year 7 Students In Year 7 all students study the same subjects and have an identical booklist. For Year 8 10 Students Students in Year 8 to 10 study a combination of core and elective subjects. All students require the text books and stationery specified for their core subjects. The booklist also includes each of the elective subjects offered to your child s year group. Your child will be enrolled in some but not all of these elective subjects, so you will need to identify the core and elective subjects in the booklist that apply to your child. For Year 11 or 12 Students TCE students have no core subjects although some subjects are pre-requisites for others. International Baccalaureate students study some subjects in common and some elective subjects. The booklist includes all of the subjects offered in the International Baccalaureate and the TCE. Your child will be enrolled in some but not all of these subjects, so you will need to identify the subjects in the booklist that apply to your child. Before working through the booklist and making a decision about what to buy, consider the following: Does your child have a text book or stationery item from last year that can still be used this year? Check that the text book is the current edition, as some texts change from time to time. Before purchasing a second hand book, please check the condition of the book i.e. spine and cover intact; no loose, torn or missing pages, and that there are no inappropriate stickers, drawings or language other than the usual subject related notes in the margin. Finally, in the event that you (the parent or guardian) are unable to get to the Birchalls Back to School Shop but have a friend or relative who can make the purchase on your behalf, then please make sure that this person has the Charge to account form (filled in by you) if you would like the purchases charged to your school account. This form will not be required if the person pays for the purchases using one of the other payment options. 6

7 Year 7 Stationery Packs 2016 The booklist for Year 7 students 2016 has now been finalised and can be viewed on the School website Whilst families are free to purchase booklist requirements from whichever retailer they choose, we are offering an easy alternative for Year 7 families whereby you can pre-order your booklist requirements and then collect your order from The Friends School Shop in the weeks leading up to the start of Term 1, enabling you to combine your uniform and booklist shopping into a single trip. This convenient option also offers you the opportunity to have your booklist supplies charged to your school fees account, or, if you prefer, you can pay on collection using EFTPOS, Visa, Mastercard, cash or cheque. We recognise that in the case of text books, some families may have some texts from older siblings that can be re-used, for this reason the order form has been divided into two sections allowing families the freedom to order from one or both depending on need. Section one comprises the stationery and workbooks as per the booklist and will be supplied as a whole set if selected. No personalising, omitting or adding of items is possible. Having a standard set allows us to package your order in advance and to provide the set to you at the best possible price, comparable to local stationery outlets. Section two comprises the text books as per the booklist and families may choose to purchase any or all of the texts through this method. To take advantage of this offer you must complete the online order form which is available via the following link Regretfully, due to ordering time frames, we are unable to accept any orders after 20 November If you do not complete an order form by this date you will need to make alternative arrangements to purchase your booklist requirements such as visiting the Birchalls Back to School Sale at the Showgrounds. Should you have any queries regarding this offer or process, please contact Cristie Potter, Retail Services Manager by cpotter@friends.tas.edu.au or by phone at The Friends School Shop on
