2 Environment The Excelsior Grand Hotel is committed to the implementation of proactive measures to help protect and sustain our environment

3 Committees Green Committee This committee will be made up of representatives from differentdepartments. The committee will meet every month to discuss the dual importance of such committee : Safeguarding the environment; Saving costs. We recognise our environment responsibility and we are committed to improving our performance towards a sustainable future. To ensure a sustainable business practice we will operate accordingly: Embrace an environmental strategy that encompasses each and every team member Focus upon our key environmental issues, such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, water efficiency and minimise pollution Train and provide tools for team members Measure, benchmark, set targets and continually improve our performance Share best practices and comply with local and relevant international legislation Liaise with our suppliers and business partners to improve their environmental performance Communicate our environmental achievements to our guests and team members Support environmental initiatives within the local community 3

4 ECO Certification Criteria 101 The Management has received training on the environmental effects of tourism Training was given on the 26 th June 2008 ADI Associates Consultants to the Grand Hotel Excelsior s Management 4

6 ECO Certification Criteria 102 The Management has a written sustainability policy and specific goals that is available to all staff The Grand Hotel Excelsior approved the attached Environmental Policy on the 12 th May 2008 The Policy is included in the Team Member Manual, page 20. Team member manual is given to all the employees The Policy is framed on team member notice boards and is also visible in the staff canteen 6

7 Environment Environmental Policy Excelsior Grand Hotel - Environmental Policy Statement Our aim is to: The Excelsior Grand Hotel is committed to the implementation of proactive measures to help protect and sustain the local, national and global environment for future generations. The Directors, managers and staff of the Excelsior Grand Hotel recognise the impact of its operations on the environment and aim by increasing the understanding in respect of these activities to minimise any detrimental effects that may occur. By working together we can create a safe and clean environment and ensure that environmental issues are kept at the forefront of everyone s mind and given proper attention at all times. 1. Fully comply with the law, current legislation and regulations and to take a proactive approach to future legal requirements or obligations. 2. Ensure that everybody within the company has a duty of care for the environment, its habitats and biodiversity. 3. Encourage our employees to work in an environmentally responsible manner. An active Environmental Committee consisting of employees from all levels operated with the company which formalises new ideas and working methods. 4. Seek to conserve natural resources by ensuring the responsible use of energy, water and materials and still provide the quality of service expected by our guests. 5. Measure performance and set objectives that will be regularly revisited with the aim of continual improvement by reducing, re-using or recycling in areas such as: Water consumption Waste materials produced Energy consumption 6. Gain support from our customers and ensure they are made aware of our environmental policy. 7.Source products that have minimal environmental impact. These include items such as packaging, recyclable products, local sourcing of services and products and energy efficient electrical equipment. 8. Work with our suppliers and contractors and ensure that they are made aware of our policy and that they have compatible policies for managing their impact on the environment. 9. Regularly conduct reviews to ensure the hotel operations remain compliant with this policy and to set or revise targets to ensure continual improvement for the future. 10. Provide all of our employees with the information, instructions and training necessary to fulfill this policy. Norbert Grixti General Manager

8 ECO Certification Criteria 104 The Hotel has designated a responsible person for the environmental management system Mr. Paul Bonanno was asked to chair the Green Committee and is also the responsible designated person to monitor the environmental management system 8
