2 Rotor Impact Mill for Recycling (RPMV) BHS Rotor Impact Mill The Rotor Impact Mill (RPMV) can be used for: selective size reduction disaggregation and liberation of composite materials purification and compaction of ductile metals into small balls crushing of brittle-hard materials The result is a material mix and its different components can thereafter be sorted out easily. Unique crushing principle The impeller rotor of the BHS Rotor Impact Mill features a unique design. Owing to the high circumferential speed of the rotor an almost constant gap is formed between the tips of the horseshoe shaped impellers and the anvil ring. The centrifugal forces provide a high energy input into the feed material, which is intensely processed by the machine tools using impact and shearing forces. Plug and play Machine and drive of the BHS Rotor Impact Mill are mounted together on a single base frame, ready for installation. A large, hydraulically liftable cover, slewable by 360 degrees, gives easy access to the wearing parts. Lubrication The BHS Rotor Impact Mill comes with an automatic oil lubrication system with incorporated monitoring unit. This ensures safe and trouble-free operation. Anti-vibration mounting The rubber buffer elements installed between base frame and machine absorb all vibrations generated during operation, thus isolating them from the supporting steel structure. An electronic vibration detector will shut off the crusher in case of any excessive vibrations. Safety In addition to the standard safety equipment a key transfer system can be provided, which will allow in conjunction with the control system to open the machine only after the rotor has completely stopped. Global service All major wearing parts of the BHS Rotor Impact Mill can be replaced without the need for any special tools or lifting equipment. Replacement can be accomplished in a very short time, thus reducing downtime to a minimum. 4 Rotor Impact Mill for Recycling (RPMV) Inside view of the Rotor Impact Mill Functional description The material to be crushed is fed from the top into the central duct. On contact with the fast spinning rotor it is highly accelerated. It then strikes the horseshoe shaped impellers and is, through centrifugal forces, hurled against the anvil ring. There by impact and shear forces, brittle hard materials are reduced in size, ductile materials are compacted to balls and composite materials are disaggregated as a result of the different elasticity modules of the materials. The material rebounding from the anvil ring again strikes the impellers and is stressed again. This action is repeated several times applying an intense stress into the feed material. As soon as the material has been reduced in size and/or compacted sufficiently to fit through the gap between the rotor and anvil ring it leaves the rotor downward through the discharge chutes. The result of the size reduction, ball shaping and disaggregation is determined by the circumferential rotor speed and the adjustable gap width between rotor and anvil ring. Thus, the machine can be optimized for all job requirements. Working principle (view from above) 4

Aluminium compacted into small balls Copper compacted into small balls Mixed metal fraction Plastic fraction from WEEE Wearing parts The anvil ring is just suspended into the mill housing and can easily be replaced by hand. The horseshoe shaped impellers rest on the rotor and are kept in position by centrifugal force. The shoes can be simply replaced by hand. A set of replaceable spacers is used to adjust the annular gap. With increasing wear of the shoes the gap width can be adjusted in steps of 4 and 8 mm by simply replacing the spacers (marked in red). The rotor is reversible thus enabling optimal utilization of all wearing parts on both sides. Spacer in initial position and in final position Replacement of wear parts 5
