2 About Us Delaware Technical Community College offers comprehensive educational opportunities including career, general, developmental and transfer education, lifelong learning, and workforce training. Through the division of Workforce Development and Community Education, a variety of pre-college activities are offered. College staff provide mentoring, education, enrichment and motivation to Delaware s youth. Exceptional programs are developed and delivered to empower and guide youth as they reach personal goals and achieve academic and professional success. In-school, after-school and summer programs are offered at both the Stanton and George Campuses. The Camp Programs represent one of the fastest growing initiatives at the Stanton and George Campuses. Our signature program, Camp-On-Campus, allows children to explore a variety of enrichment activities throughout the summer while experiencing the college environment. Each program has been designed to be educational and entertaining and is staffed by experienced educators and camp counselors. STEM Camps provide activities to reinforce competencies required by the state educational standards. Specialty Camps enable students to explore new areas of interest. Career Camps, developed in conjunction with college faculty and members of the business community, provide students with relevant, ageappropriate career awareness experiences. The size of each camp is limited and openings are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Check out all that Delaware Tech has to offer and register early! Late arrivals should check in at the Workforce Development and Community Education office. Any camper arriving before 8:45 am and/or not picked up by 4 pm will be assigned to our Extended Care Program and a fee of $10 per child will be due at the time of drop-off and/ or pick-up. Extended Care: Delaware Tech s Extended Care Program, available at both campuses, includes games, competitions, afternoon movie matinees and much more! Campers at the Stanton Campus also enjoy activities in our college-sized gymnasium such as volleyball, basketball and popular group games. Extended hours start at 7:30 am and end at 6 pm; and cost $30 per week or $10 per day. FAQs Will my child go on a field trip? All campers participate in afternoon recreational activities in addition to several weekly field trips. Look for schedule in book. What if I need to pick up my child early from camp? If your child has to leave early, please let staff know at drop-off and please be aware of the trip schedule. Due to safety issues, we cannot arrange pick-ups or drop-offs while a camper is on a field trip. When should I register for camp? Registration begins February 8 with final payment required by 4:30 pm 10 days prior to each week s camp start date. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Do I need to make a deposit to register? Yes, a non-refundable deposit of $25 per child, per week is due with your application. Pre-registration is required. The $25 is applied to your balance. Does the camp program offer extended care? Yes, the extended care program begins at 7:30 am and ends at 6 pm. The fee is $30 per week. There is a $15 late charge. Will there be any additional fees? All camp activity fees are included in the cost. Additional fees are charged only if you utilize the extended care program. Will my child be able to bring his/her own equipment? The camp will provide all the equipment children will need unless specified. Please do not bring personal equipment, electronic devices or cell phones to camp. Does my child need to bring a lunch? Your child may bring a brown bag lunch. No refrigeration is offered. He or she may also purchase food in the College café. The café does offer prepaid plans throughout the summer. Please see café staff for more information. How should my child dress for camp? Children should come dressed to participate in athletic and artistic activities. Wear sneakers, not flip-flops or any other open-toed shoes. Who works on the camp staff? Our staff is comprised of college administrative staff, teachers, counselors and college students from the local area. What is the counselor/camper ratio? We follow state guidelines for counselor/camper ratio. Therefore, 9- to 15-year-olds will have a 1:10 ratio; 7- to 8-year-olds will have a 1:9 ratio; and 5- to 6-year-olds will have a 1:5 ratio. What if the camp I want is full? Your name will be placed on our waiting list. You will be notified no later than the Wednesday before the camp begins if a spot becomes available. 3

5 Camp-On-Campus Ages 5-15 What is Camp-On-Campus? Students ages 5-15* can join us at the Stanton or George Campus for indoor classroom activities, outdoor athletic games and afternoon field trips. Plenty of on campus activities give your child a rewarding learning experience while guaranteeing a summer filled with excitement and fun. *All five year olds must have completed kindergarten. Proof of current enrollment in Kindergarten is required! 6 Junior Specialty Camps Ages 5-8 All camps are 9 am - noon with recreational field trips in the afternoon. For camp dates see page four, Summer Camps At-A-Glance. Bricks 4 Kidz Camp Bricks 4 Kidz is a hands-on experience that teaches science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through working with the LEGO technic bricks, they count, learn about gravity, torque, gears, ratios, friction, asymmetry and much more. Computer Kids Camp Using state-of-the-art college computer facilities, campers will participate in various computer-related activities using kid-friendly websites and Microsoft Office applications. Practice keyboarding skills, develop a PowerPoint presentation, create digital art, and learn about Internet safety. Creation Station Camp Unleash your creativity in this art camp. Campers will use a variety of mediums to show their creative ideas! Hands-on crafts with paint, markers and glue will excite any young Picasso. Drama Camp Have you caught the acting bug? Come spend a week working as an ensemble to create an original play - full of drama, comedy, suspense, and one-of-a-kind characters! Minion Camp Embark on a week long adventure of exploration, mystery solving, engineering, construction and science experiments. This camp includes hands-on activities, games, planning and design, as well as execution. No Bake Cooking Camp This camp teaches our younger campers how to measure and how to mix up fun treats for family and friends. Pokémon Camp - NEW This camp designed for New Trainers that are just learning how to play. Trainers must be able to read fluently and do basic math. Pokémon Camp starts with the basics of the Pokémon Collectible Card Game, and includes basic play and rules, deck construction strategies, trading and managing collections, building a deck from scratch, Spirit of the Game and tournament etiquette and how to prepare and play in an official Pokémon Tournament. All campers should bring one deck of cards. Princess Camp Laugh, giggle, and have fun learning what real life princesses do. Campers are encouraged to wear their favorite princess attire. Messy Science Camp Campers will have fun with this camp as they get their hands dirty testing theories and creating hypotheses for experiments. This camp is for the inquisitive youngster. 6

Specialty Camps allow children ages 9 to 12 to express their creativity throughout the summer by participating in weekly camps like cooking, acting and photography. Explore new areas of interest while making new friends at camp. Babysitting Camp Would you like to earn some money by babysitting? This camp could help you on your way. Campers become familiar with and learn basic skill training and information that is necessary in caring for infants and children. Topics such as emergency action steps, personal safety, fire safety, infant care, basic first aid and choking management are covered. Cooking Camp Gain experience creating entrees and baking desserts. Learn to measure, estimate and read recipes. Campers learn basic recipes while covering different topics and meals. Creation Station Camp (Ages 5-10) Unleash your creativity in this art camp. Campers will use a variety of mediums to show their creative ideas! Hands-on crafts with paint, markers and glue will excite any young Picasso. Creative Writing Camp (Ages 11-15) Unleash your creativity in this writing clinic. Learn creative ways to add sparkle to writing projects. Work in the college s computer lab, transferring handwritten creative pieces to word processing software. Cupcakes with Kids Camp It s cupcake time! Learn how to safely work your way around a kitchen and bake yummy cupcakes from scratch. Make delicious icings, and go beyond chocolate and vanilla to create your unique cupcake design. DJ Camp (Ages 11-15) Students learn to interact with music in a more hands-on method. The Disc Jockey is known as the foundation of popular music with the ability to promote, share and remix songs. Campers are introduced to the art of DJ ing, use of equipment, various techniques for mixing music and career opportunities. Drama Camp Have you caught the acting bug? Come spend a week working as an ensemble to create an original play - full of drama, comedy, suspense, and one-of-a-kind characters! Incredible Edible Art Camp See what the expression It looks good enough to eat means. Learn how to construct edible creations that you gobble right up! Campers will leave camp with their own recipe book and instructional book on how to create edible art. Minion Camp (Ages 5-10) Embark on a week-long adventure of exploration, mystery solving, engineering, construction and science experiments. This camp includes hands-on activities, games, planning and design, as well as execution. Pokémon Camp - NEW This camp designed for New Trainers that are just learning how to play. Camps are taught by college instructors, local high school and middle school teachers, and professionals from the community. App Attack! - NEW Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app and game development tool, students will explore the world of web-based (HTML5) mobile apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see first hand how the world of App publishing functions. Student created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to App Stores not included. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Crime Solving by Math Camp Watch episodes of the television show Numb3rs and use the same tactics as the detectives used to solve crimes. Learn how to do the Cryptic Byword Puzzles in the paper and how to play the game Mafia. Digital Photography (Ages 11-15) Campers learn various picture-taking techniques by photographing people, places and things. Hands-on activities and lessons will enable campers to create a detailed story board. Class materials will be provided. Mad Scientist Nothing to get upset about, these campers will test theories using the Scientific Method with hands-on experiments and activities. Make Your First 3D Video Game! - NEW Try this new version of a Black Rocket classic! This class allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and storytelling. Student created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. 8

Make Your First Video Game - NEW If you love playing video games, this is the camp for you! Make your first video game in this one of a kind class that shows you the keys to designing your first 2D platformer game. Conceptualization, play experience, challenge levels, graphics, sounds, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that we ll explore. No prior experience necessary, just a desire to have fun. Student created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers, Mac versions can be created after the program for $15.00 conversion fee. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Math Skills and Games Camp Have fun while sharpening math skills. Calculator games, mazes, puzzles, and hands-on projects spark interest and imagination in problem-solving techniques. Minecraft Camp Campers use the ever popular Minecraft video game to build worlds, solve puzzles and create together. Campers have specific goals and challenges each day, which they take on both individually and by playing together as a group. Both newcomers and experienced Minecraft players are invited to have fun and learn together this summer. Renewable Energy Camp - NEW Campers will use hands-on activities to explore engineering and design concepts as they construct solar ovens to make s mores, build solar cars and wind turbines, and build and program LEGO Mindstorms NXT solar trackers and wind stations. Wonders Of Web Design Camp (Ages 11-15) Campers must have an address prior to camp. Campers will study web design and the creation of websites. Websites will be evaluated for valid content and good design techniques. Internet safety will also be discussed. Campers will create a website using a free online service. Messy Science Camp Campers will have fun with this camp as they get their hands dirty testing theories and creating hypotheses for experiments. This camp is for the inquisitive youngster. 9

10 Sports Camps Ages 9-15 All camps are 9 am - noon with recreational field trips in the afternoon. For camp dates see page four, Summer Camps At-A-Glance. Delaware Tech s co-ed Sports Camps for ages 9 to 15 are held at the Stanton Campus gymnasium or athletic fields. Sports camps are taught by local coaches and current and past college athletes. Camps are basic skills and knowledge focused camps. Stepping and Stomping Dance Camp Spend your week working as a team on a STOMP and STEPPING routine that will have you dancing all day long! Super Sports Camp Basketball, soccer, baseball and hockey; just a taste of all the different sports we will explore and learn about in this variety sports camp. Play your favorites or learn a new sport. Basketball Camp Improve basic basketball skills focusing on dribbling, rebounding, shooting and passing. Team building and teamwork will be part of skills addressed. Cheerleading Camp Learn the basics of cheerleading. Activities include dance, cheers, jumps and making spirit posters. All these activities will be included in an end of the week performance. Soccer Camp Improve soccer skills focusing on offensive and defensive drills, goal keeping, teamwork and fitness drills. Specialty Camps allow children ages 13 to 15 to express their creativity throughout the summer by participating in weekly camps like cooking, acting and photography. CSI/Crime Scene Investigation Camp Learn the importance of securing a crime scene, searching for clues, and processing the evidence collected. Put your knowledge to work and solve the crime! DJ Camp (Ages 11-15) Students learn to interact with music in a more hands-on method. The Disc Jockey is known as the foundation of popular music with the ability to promote, share and remix songs. Campers are introduced to the art of DJ ing, use of equipment, various techniques for mixing music and career opportunities. Kids on the Runway Camp Campers will focus on the fundamentals such as pattern making, stitching and sewing on machines. Design clothing from scratch, create mood boards, sketches and have fun bedazzling your garment for the runway! Intro to Drones - NEW The unmanned model quadcopter (drone) aircraft revolution is here! Attend this Crash Camp to learn more about your preflight checklist. This camp will cover what you need to know for recreational use, such as proper operation, safety, rules and regulations. 10

Cybersecurity Camp Cybersecurity STEM Camp is designed to provide foundational knowledge of cyber security and to solidify career decisions of students interested in pursuing this vastly growing career field. Activities are fun, hands-on and STEM focused. Topics include cyber-attacks, cyber ethics, privacy, security, intrusion detection, penetration testing, cryptography and digital forensics. Attendees will also learn from a series of gaming, simulation activities, and explore the interconnections of science, math, technology, and computers. Digital Editing Camp Campers will learn beginner and intermediate skill level digital photo editing to make images more appealing and have more control over the final output. This digital editing camp will use both free downloadable Google Picasa software and a trial version of Adobe PhotoShop to teach photo editing skills. Digital Photography (Ages 11-15) Campers learn various picture-taking techniques by photographing people, places and things. Hands-on activities and lessons will enable campers to create a detailed story board. Class materials will be provided. This class allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and storytelling. Student created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Make Your First Video Game - NEW If you love playing video games, this is the camp for you! Make your first video game in this one of a kind class that shows you the keys to designing your first 2D platformer game. Conceptualization, play experience, challenge levels, graphics, sounds, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that we ll explore. No prior experience necessary, just a desire to have fun. Student created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers, Mac versions can be created after the program for $15.00 conversion fee. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Wonders of Web Design Camp (Ages 11-15) Campers must have an address prior to camp. Campers will study web design and the creation of websites. Websites will be evaluated for valid content and good design techniques. Internet safety will also be discussed. Campers will create a website using a free online service. 11

Campers will be notified of the safety rules on the first day of camp. Campers will be reminded to make safe choices when necessary, and will be responsible for the decisions they make. Please do not send a sick child to camp. Discipline problems will be handled in the following manner; 1. Individual behavior problems will be handled by the counselors. 2. If problems persist, the camper will be referred to the camp manager and the parents will be notified. 3. If problem continues to exist, the camper will be dismissed from camp and will not be permitted to return. Refunds will not be granted if campers are dismissed from camp.
