1 NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR FREE TECHIE CAMP! With support from the Nordson Corporation, TECH CORPS will implement its Techie Camp program with 200 students throughout Lorain County, Ohio, Youngstown, Ohio, and New Castle, Pennsylvania during the summer of Techie Camp is a full-day, week-long technology experience designed specifically for elementary and middle school students. The goal of Techie Camp is to engage students in activities that can stimulate a deeper interest in technology; as well as provide opportunities for them to express their imaginations. Each camp is comprised of 20 students and lead by two TECH CORPS Instructors. Families will be responsible for transportation and lunch/two snacks/beverages. Camps will be held throughout Lorain County, and the Youngstown area. Extended Deadline: MAY 1, 2015 ES: Robotics MS: Web Development Techie Camp Topics Through fun and engaging experiences with Scratch, from the MIT Media Lab, elementary school students learn how to create their own interactive art, stories and games. Students explore basic engineering and programming as they interact with the Lego Mindstorms NXT robots. Using Alice, a 3D programming environment, students will learn the basic concepts of programming through the creation of video games and interactive stories. Students explore intermediate engineering and programming concepts using Lego Mindstorms NXT robots. Through fun and engaging experiences with web authoring and media software, students will learn how to create their own web pages with different media. THIS OPPORTUNITY IS ONLY OPEN TO STUDENTS WHO MEET BOTH OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS: 1. Currently reside in either Lorain County or Youngstown, Ohio or New Castle, Pennsylvania; 2. Will be enrolled in the 3 rd - 5 th or 6 th - 8 th grade in the Fall of Student Selection Process: Students interested in being selected to participate will need to turn in a complete Application Packet before the extended deadline: Friday, May 1, Up to 20 students will be selected for each camp based on their application (10 points) and letter of recommendation (30 points). Students will be notified of selection in mid-may. Application Packets can be downloaded from the TECH CORPS website or you can find out where to pick up one by calling the TECH CORPS Office at TECH CORPS is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring all K-12 students have equal access to the technology programs, resources and skills to enrich their education today and to prepare them for college or career tomorrow.
