Business tax provides bespoke taxation services to clients and deals with all queries from basic compliance through to high-level advisory work. The department prepares tax returns and computations, carries out tax planning/consultancy work, and deals with HMRC, clients and third parties. Corporate audit in this department you ll need an analytical mind as you join a pool of trainees who provide audit and accounting services to managers and partners. You will work with a broad range of clients covering a variety of sectors from financial services to technology companies and sports clubs. Public sector audit provides audit and consultancy services to the public sector principally across the UK. In this department areas of specialism include arts and heritage, education, health and international funding. 2

The life of an ACA trainee at Moore Stephens is a busy one, full of client work, travel, study and socialising! I initially applied to Moore Stephens because I was attracted by the scope of work on offer; the ability to work on a variety of different clients and sectors. After the recent merger with Chantrey Vellacott, I saw it as a firm that was aspiring to grow and establish itself within the mid-tier an exciting time to join! Despite doing a degree in French I felt that audit would be an interesting and varied place to work and this has proved the case, as I have already worked on clients in numerous different sectors. There is also regular internal training from a number of Senior Managers across several different topics to help us with our job, which I have found particularly useful coming from a non-financial degree. There have also been a number of social events to help the trainees settle in and meet people from across the different service lines which has made me feel at home within the firm. I am constantly learning on the job and given new work to do which will prove invaluable in the long term. James ACA Associate 3

Selection process So you know what to expect, here s a little more information on the five stages of Moore Stephens application process: 1. Application form The first stage is to apply using our online application form, once submitted you will receive an confirmation to let you know your application is in process. 2. Review All application forms are read and assessed by a member of our Graduate Recruitment Team. Once your application has been reviewed and scored successful candidates will receive an inviting them to sit our Financial Reasoning Test (FRT). 3. Financial Reasoning Test (FRT) Instructions on how to complete the test are included in the FRT invitation . When you ve completed the FRT you will be notified via of your results. Please note, unfortunately we cannot progress your application until you have fully completed the test. Your test score will be combined with your application form score, and if you re successful in meeting our minimum criteria in both areas we will contact you to invite you to the next available assessment centre. We will also contact you via if you haven t met our minimum selection criteria and as such will be unable to progress your application further. 4. Assessment centre Assessment centres are normally held throughout the year and are an opportunity for you to learn more about the firm and the group you re looking to join as well as demonstrate your strengths to us. Our assessment centres include: presentations about the firm, the qualifications and training contract; an interview with a partner or manager; a financial reasoning test; a tour of our offices; a team exercise; and an opportunity to meet current trainees. Remember, assessment centres are a great opportunity for you to learn more about us, as well as the other way round, so come prepared with your questions! 5. Outcome You ll be pleased to know that the assessment centre is the final stage of the process. We know you ll be keen to learn the outcome, and as such we aim to inform you of the results within a week of meeting us. 4

5 I decided to join Moore Stephens over other firms because of the very flexible, friendly and open working environment that I spotted during my assessment centre. Everybody was very welcoming and eager to help us throughout the whole recruitment process. It has been a great experience we have been involved in number of intensive and in-depth training courses, welcoming social events, and have had opportunities to work on assignments at both the office and the client s site. This exposure to varied and interesting experiences in a lot of different industries is something that many university graduates could not find at such an early stage of their career development.
