QUESTIONS TO MOBILE COMMUNICATION NETWORK PROVIDERS QoS parameters of mobile networks (2G, 3G, 4G) General instructions These questions are addressed mobile communication network providers who either themselves or through assignment to another party perform measurements of QoS parameters regarding mobile networks. The questions are addressed to providers who follow a well-defined methodology regarding the measurement of these parameters. The methodology could be established in a formal or informal document (regulation, decision, code of practice), or be imported from a standard, recommendation or other reference document. Measurements could already be conducted, or programmed to be conducted in the near future. All questions should be answered. If you cannot answer a question, either because you do not have necessary information or because you think that a question is not relevant to you, please say so in the tes box following each question. In the same box you can also mention any comment or remark relevant to a certain question, or any measurement differentiations for different QoS parameters. In some questions more than one answer can be selected. This is stated explicitly at these questions. The multiple-choice questions have been created using checkboxes. To check a box, simply double click or right-click, go Properties and change to ''checked''. Whenever a text box exists next or immediately following a selected answer, this must also be filled, if possible. A. Respondent information Name: Job Position: Company name: Country: B. Questions regarding the methodologies used
1. Which of the following measurement setups are used in measurement campaigns? Please select all the combinations of measurement setups and QoS parameters that are performed in measurement campaigns. If you use any other measurement setup, please specify. QoS parameter groups Measurement setup Radio coverage Voice quality Data quality 1 Car (drive tests) 2 Backpack (walking test) 3 Probes (static test) 4 Other 2. Who is performing the measurements? (more than one answers are possible) In house Other third party (please explain below) If more than one answer is selected, please mention the measurements performed by each party. 3. Which QoS parameters defined in ETSI standards (TS or other) are being measured for each technology (for all services)? Please mention the QoS parameters and the Standard where each one is defined and select the measurement setup and the technology: Measurement setup Technology Standard QoS parameter Car Backpack Probe Other 2G 3G 4G
4. If any of the QoS parameters mentioned in question 3 are measured using a different methodology than the one described in ETSI standards please describe the methodology. QoS parameter Methodology Are there any QoS parameters measured which are not defined in any ETSI standard? 6. If you answered yes to question 5 please define these parameters. Please mention the QoS parameters and the methodology that is used for each one (select the measurement setup and the technology): Measurement setup Technology Methodology QoS parameter Car Backpack Probe Other 2G 3G 4G
7. Please mention the QoS parameters that are not being measured now but you intend to measure in the near future. Please mention the QoS parameters and the methodology that is used for each one (select the measurement setup and the technology): Measurement setup Technology Standard/Methodology QoS parameter Car Backpack Probe Other 2G 3G 4G The broadband QoS parameters are measured using: (more than one answers possible) USB Smartphones Other Unspecified Please mention here any other comment: 9. What are the sampling rates, regarding frequency and time that are used for the radio coverage measurements?
Example: Total frequency samples per second (Hz) or time between each sample (ms) etc. 10. What are the sampling rates, regarding frequency and time that are used for the radio coverage measurements when channel identification is also performed? Example: Total frequency samples per second (Hz) or time between each sample (ms) etc. C. Questions regarding specifications of the measurement setup 11. Is the same number of receivers/scanners and antennas used for the radio coverage measurements (one antenna is connected to each one receiver/scanner)? Unspecified If no, do you use combiners for connecting multiple receivers to one antenna? Please describe the set up.
12. Are the cable and combiner losses taken into account for the radio coverage measurements? Unspecified If yes, please describe how: 13. For selecting the exact position of the antennas on the roof of the vehicle, is the isolation between the antennas being taken into account? Unspecified If yes, how is isolation determined (using software simulator or measurements)? 14. What is the sensitivity of the receivers that are used for performing the radio coverage measurements?
Example: -X dbm for 2G technology at 900 MHz. D. Questions regarding measurement campaign 15. Which are the main problems that are faced during a measurement campaign? (including testing, actual measurement and post process) Please describe them if any: 16. How do you classify the radio coverage levels according to signal receiving levels for each technology (2G, 3G and 4G)? Example: for GSM: 1. coverage if receiving level (RxLev)<-110 dbm, 2. Poor coverage if -110 dbm<rxlev< -95 dbm, etc 17. Please describe the average size and the way that it is determined for each measurement campaign.
Example: a measurement campaign is scheduled in order to cover yearly a certain number or percentage of the cities of your country, a certain number or percentage of km of highways of your country, areas where a certain number or percentage of population of your country live, etc. 18. Please provide an estimate of the man months needed for each measurement campaign (including testing, actual measurements and post process) Estimation of man months: 19. How many measurement sets or campaigns are conducted on average per year? (A measurement set or campaign starts with conducting measurements and ends with deriving statistical results about these measurements) Less than one One Two Three More than three t applicable (check here e.g. if measurements are performed all the time, or if there is no notion of a measurement set or campaign) NOTES: 20. Are measurement results been published?
