LEFT-HANDED & RIGHT-HANDED PERSONALITIES Braydon Pifer Mrs. McNess Syracuse Jr. High
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM I wanted to know if there are any differences between left-handed and right-handed people. There have been several tests conducted on this subject. My experiment will explore this question by evaluating specific characteristic traits that left handed and right handed people have.
RESEARCH Summarize your research here in three to five significant facts: - In researching the worlds population, I found that 70-90% of the world is right handed and that 10-30% is left handed. - Evaluate if there are any differences in Personalities between right handed people to left handed people - Put the Wikipedia statistic to test in my random 17 people surveyed Myers Briggs Personality Test, 1943 Education.com/science fair Wikipedia Handedness 2008 Test subjects 17 people
HYPOTHESIS Do left handed and right handed people have specific character traits based of each individual handedness? If left handed people have different characteristic traits then right handed people then having seventeen people take the Myers Briggs Personality Test should prove a different pattern of traits in left handed people because the results of the survey would show that these specific traits do not appear in right handed people? Is there more right handed people than left handed people?
PROCEDURE: MATERIALS Computer A location for the participants to have silence for the test for 5-7 minutes Each participant is to set aside 5-7 minutes to take the test uninterrupted Myers Briggs Personality Test completing 72 questions Notebook to analyze results Printer to print off results
PROCEDURE: STEPS 1. Go on the web an go to education.com 2. Find the Myers Briggs assessment online 3. Give it to a sample of 17 people randomly picked in the neighborhood 4. Observe them taking the test 5. Instruct them on how to submit their results 6. Gather the information from all participants 7. Submitted each participants into a Word document 8. Calculate the percentages of each of the Myers Briggs traits 9. Evaluate the differences of the left and right handed participants
VARIABLES Constants: Myers Briggs Personality Test Controlled variables: Evaluated Both the right and left handed participants results looking at 4 Traits: Introvert % Sensing % Feeling % Judging % Independent (manipulated): Chose and equal amount of Left handed and right handed people Responding variable: None
DATA/OBSERVATIONS My observations were that on the sample of the 17 participants the Wikipedia s statistics of the % of right and left handed people is correct. Of the 17 participants randomly chosen, 4 of the 17 are left handed which is 24% and the remaining 13 of 17 are right handed for 76%. In evaluating the 5 measuring characteristics of the Myers Briggs Personality Test, the right handed participants scored out the following: Extrovert % - 51% Introvert% - 21% Sensing % - 64% Feeling % - 14% Judging % - 29%
DATA/OBSERVATION In evaluating the 5 measuring characteristics of the Myers Briggs Personality Test, the left handed participants scored out the following: Extrovert % - 31% Introvert% - 13% Sensing % - 13% Feeling % - 22% Judging % - 36%
DATA/OBSERVATION I looked at the 2 highest scoring personality traits and the 2 lowest scoring personality traits and compared them to both the right handed and left handed people. The Right Handed participants, their highest scoring traits are: Sensing / Extravert The Left Handed participants highest scoring traits are: Judging / Extravert The Right Handed participants, their lowest scoring traits are: Feeling / Introvert The Left Handed participants, their lowest scoring traits are: Sensing / Introvert
CONCLUSION I observed that there is a higher population of Right handed people than Left handed people both in the world and in my 17 people surveyed as outlined in my hypothesis. There does seem to be different personality strengths and weaknesses from one that is Right handed versus Left handed. It does seem to also show that the data gathered indicates that both Right and Left handed people can share same personality characteristics as well.
