4 Location Our English school is located in Kilkenny, in the sunny South-East of Ireland. Only 1 hour away from Dublin, it is without doubt one of the most beautiful cities in Ireland and a much visited tourist attraction of the Emerald Isle. Kilkenny is a city in the heart of Ireland. Approximately 30,000 people live in Kilkenny. Scattered throughout the city are cafés, pubs, galleries and small shops. By day and by night, Kilkenny is full of life. The untapped natural landscape in and around Kilkenny is an ideal starting point to begin one s journey through Ireland. 5 Home-stay Accommodation Mackdonald language academy currently has over 200 families registered host families, all of which have been personally inspected and continually undergo re-inspection each year. Our host family selection is a detailed process as we do not just pick homes that are clean and comfortable, we choose families that are friendly, welcoming and most suited to our students requirements. Host families in Kilkenny are within easy walking distance of the school and become a student s family whilst they are studying with us. Home-stay is available to all students with bed, breakfast and evening meals provided from Monday to Friday and all meals at weekends. A full board option is also available. For students that do not wish to stay with a family, other possibilities include self-catering apartments, local B&B guest houses and hotels are available. Teaching All our courses are designed to improve a student s level of fluency and to raise their confidence levels. Classes are small, allowing for more one to one attention: Group lessons: max. 6 students/class Mini-group lessons: max. 3 students/class All students are tested on arrival and our teachers closely monitor every student s progress throughout their stay. 6 Leisure Activities We take pride in the variety of leisure opportunities provided for our students during their stay with us. There is a great deal to see and do outside of school. After the morning classes, the afternoons are free to explore the vast range of sights and attractions available in Kilkenny and its surrounding areas. These activities are on a pay as you go basis, meaning students can choose the activities that are of most interest to them.
