Examples of Assignments

Daily Warm-Up

N O T E S

PROCESSING ASSIGNMENTS

Maintaining the Interactive Notebook No ripped out pages or torn corners No doodling that doesn t relate to notes Date, title and number each page

HOW IT WILL BE GRADED 1. Title, date, and page number on every page 2. All assignments should be in chronological order & neat! 3. Each fully completed and correct assignment earns a grade. 4. Any missing part (date, title, incomplete, etc.) will cause points to be deduced.

Deductions for Lateness and Lack of Chronological Order 1. If a student has forgotten to bring their notebook for that particular class when a notebook check is announced, they may bring it by the very next calendar day, but a letter grade will be deducted from their notebook score for that check. 2.Any assignment that is found to be out of chronological order will cause a 10% reduction in the overall score of a notebook evaluation. 3. Any time the notebook is graded, it will constitute a test grade. Notebook checks are unannounced and random. ALWAYS HAVE YOUR NOTEBOOK!

How long should it take to work on my notebook? Normally class time is given to work on assignments. What is not completed in class will need to be completed at home.

Setting up thethe Setting up Interactive Student Interactive Student Notebook Notebook THE ISN

LET S GET STARTED! Number your ISN pages in the upper corner of every page With a permanent marker, write your first and last, Class & Period on the front cover Number the first five pages and label them Table of Contents

LET S GET STARTED! Glue the two syllabuses on the inside covers of your spiral. Or you may keep it in another folder. Make sure you know where it is at all times for a reference. Create the table of contents: Use the front and back of the first five sheets (pages 1-10). Make three columns: a column for the date, title, and page number of each entry The last three sheets must be your glossary. Title it Glossary and divide each page into four squares. Place one letter of the alphabet in the upper corner of each square. UVW & XYZ can share boxes.

Daily ISN Procedures: Daily: Every day, you will get your ISN, fill in the Table of Contents, copy the Warm-Up questions, and answer them in complete sentences. One we discuss the answers, you can make corrections if you need to.

Daily ISN Procedures: Typical Unit Pattern: Title Page Vocabulary Page Warm-Up Notes Activity

Daily ISN Procedures: Test/Projects: Your ISN will hold all the important information you will need to know to be successful on test day. It will hold potential test questions from the Warm-Ups, Vocabulary Cards, notes and activities. Your organized TOC will allow you to find information quickly. Before any test, I give a blank study guide outlining the information that will be on the test. You will most of the time have time in class to complete the study guide using your ISN.

T Y P I C A L F O R M A T Objective: Warm-Up: Visual Vocabulary Card Page World Picture Definition Sentence What You Learn from Me: Articles Notes, vocabulary terms Graphic Organizers / Thinking Maps In-class Assignments Essays, writing assignments Worksheets Creative Work with the New Information: Graphs, charts, Venn Diagrams, research from internet, drawn pictures Make connections between new and old learning Questions Poems or songs Brainstorming Sketches related to learning Create mnemonic devices

What if I am Absent? Check the Class ISN: You will quickly see what we accomplished while you were absent and the absent bin will hold any documents that you will need to complete.
