1 Education Master The purpose of the Education Master is to build a library of handouts that you routinely distribute to your patients based on specific criteria. The system will keep track of the material at the encounter level of the education resources distributed with a date stamp. 1. Select Settings Configuration Clinic Education 2. Click the add New button 3. Name the Education record 4. Select File radio button 5. Select the desired Category from the drop-down pick list. 6. Click to define the applicable condition that qualifies the category. The options displayed within the binocular pop-up screen will reflect the selected category and thus will change with each update. a. ICD / CPT Range b. Complaint c. Vaccine d. Specialty e. General f. Protocol g. Lab/Radiology Test 7. Click the save button. 8. Click the paper clip icon that will now be enabled (beside the File radio button previously selected above).

2 9. Browse to the location on your computer/cd-rom where you have the PDF/HTML document stored. Note: Currently only *.pdf or *.html format can be attached. 10. Click the attach button. A confirmation pop-up will display when it successfully attaches. 11. Click the save button. Education Document Types Before saving the record, you must define the type of document will be distributed. Once it is saved, you will attach the specific document. File This allows you to attach a PDF file of the education you want to print out from the encounter and physically give to the patient during the encounter. Brochure This allows you to assign an education record to an encounter; however, it does not print anything physically from the encounter. Use this option to document and track verbal education and/or preprinted brochures that you give a patient during the encounter. URL Currently this option is not being used. Category of Trigger Select the category that will actually trigger the education at the encounter level. Depending upon the category selected, the specific values that clarify the trigger will be available under the binocular when applicable.

3 ICD Range This allows you to restrict the education based upon a specific diagnosis code or range of codes. 1. Click on the first empty row. 2. Select an ICD Code. 3. Select a 2 nd ICD Code. Notes: If only one code is selected, it will show as both the From and Upto on the selection row. It 2 codes are selected, the entire ICD range between the 2 values will apply. 4. Repeat for rows 2 and 3 if applicable to associate additional ICD Codes. CPT Range This allows you to restrict the education based upon a specific CPT code or range of codes. 1. Click on the first empty row. 2. Select a CPT Code. 3. Select a 2 nd CPT Code. Notes: If only one code is selected, it will show as both the From and Upto on the selection row. It 2 codes are selected, the entire CPT range between the 2 values will apply. 4. Repeat for rows 2 and 3 if applicable to associate additional CPT Codes. Complaint This allows you to restrict the education based upon a specific HPI Complaint.

4 2. Select a Complaint. Note: Only one complaint may be selected at a time per education record. Vaccine This allows you to restrict the education based upon a specific Vaccine. 2. Select a Vaccination. Note: Only one vaccine may be selected at a time per education record. Specialty This allows you to restrict the education based upon a specific Specialty Procedure. 2. Select a Specialty Template. Note: Only one template may be selected at a time per education record. General This allows you to define the education at a system level to apply at all times. In this scenario, there is no actual trigger. The education will automatically be posted to the patient s Education on Encounter TOC and tracked as having been given that date.

5 Protocol Training Quick Steps This allows you to define the education at a broad level to apply automatically in conjunction with a specific protocol defined by you. Protocols can be any combination of procedures or tests that are applicable to a specific condition or care scenario and are defined under a separate master file. 2. Select a Protocol. Note: Only one protocol may be selected at a time per education record. Lab/Rad Test This allows you to restrict the education to be automatically applied to an encounter in conjunction with a specific test. 2. Select a Test. Note: Only one test may be selected at a time per education record.

6 Administering & Tracking Patient Education Based upon the triggers defined in the Education Master, the system will automatically assign the applicable record to the patient s encounter. This can be seen under the Education option from the encounter TOC. In addition, a system parameter can be defined that will expire an education record and thus alert the physician when the same education is required to be updated for the patient. Encounter TOC Education 1. The education record will automatically post based upon the defined trigger. 2. The user must click the OK button. 3. The system will execute based upon the Type, e.g.: a. Print the PDF associated to the education record will print to the default printer. b. Brochure nothing will print 4. The Last Given date will populate with the current date for both scenarios. If applicable, an entry will display on the Progress Note of the education that was administered during the visit. Meaningful Use Patient Education is an optional Menu Set Measure within CMS Meaningful Use guidelines. If you elect to report on this measure (Menu Set Measure 6), 10% compliance is required.
