4 start successfully start successfully about MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK desktop application is a services platform for Motorola s new generation of smart phones. In order to generate a great experience from the first time you launch the application, MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK provides various wizard-based utilities for you to deal with the essentials such as import of various types of contents - including your itunes or Windows Media Player libraries - and also setup parameters to take advantage of the automated features MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK provides. MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK automatically downsizes DVD videos to clips that need only a fraction of the storage space, to a video resolution that is dedicated to viewing on a handset and also transcodes them to a format your handset supports. You do not need to worry about file format, codecs and video resolution. MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK even helps you to send videos to the Web and share your media with everyone on the Internet. The application supports some of the most popular social networking and content sharing Web sites such as YouTube and My Nero. working with MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK gives you an intuitive way to synchronise media between devices. It also provides an easy to use media management alternative on the user interface. Using MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK as media manager allows you to multitask without launching multiple applications. The following steps show the typical sequence of operations: 1. Connect your phone to your PC. 2. MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK efficiently synchronises data that is edited or entered using a mobile handset so you are assured to access the same updated data regardless of the device you use. Details of the synchronisation settings can be changed or adapted at any time. 3. MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK gives you the ability to take your videos with you to work or on a business trip. MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK automatically downsizes DVD videos to clips that need only a fraction of the storage space, to a video resolution that is dedicated to viewing on a handset and also transcodes them to a format your handset supports. You do not need to worry about file format, codecs, or video resolution. If you want, for example, ten others in the office plus parents and brother overseas to see that video, MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK helps you to upload it to the web and share it with everyone in the internet. MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK supports some of the most popular social networking and content sharing Web sites such as YouTube and My Nero. 4. Once all the editing is done, you simply click a button to easily synchronise all the updated data with your phones. 5 start successfully profile wizard At the first launch of MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK, the profile wizard is opened automatically if a mobile device is already connected to your PC. It will guide you to configure a profile for your mobile device that specifies the connection settings. Whenever you later connect a device that already has a profile in MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK, it is connected without any further input of yours using the settings defined in its profile. Proceed as follows: 1. Make sure that MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK is closed. 2. Connect the desired mobile device via USB cable directly to the USB port of your PC (no hub or docking station in-between). 3. Double-click the MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK desktop icon. MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK is opened and its Home screen is displayed. If you open MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK for the first time the Profile Wizard is opened automatically displaying its Welcome screen. Profile Wizard Welcome screen 4. Click the Next button. Click the Next button. The Multimedia Directory Settings screen is displayed. Here you can define where MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK shall save multimedia files synchronised with the mobile device you are creating this profile for. 7 start successfully 8. Click the Next button. The Link Your Music screen is displayed. Here you can define whether you want to link your mobile device to the music library on your PC. Profile Wizard - Link Your Music screen 9. Select the desired setting's option button. 10. Click the Next button. The Share Your Photos and Videos Online screen is displayed. Here you can define which of your online communities you want to use to share your media files. Please note that you have to be registered already with the online communities you select. 8 start successfully 11. Select the check box of the online community you want to use and enter your username and password into the corresponding input fields. 12. Click the Next button. The Profile Wizard is closed now and the specified profile is saved. 9 main window main window The main window is the starting point for all actions that can be carried out using MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK. The Home screen is displayed by default when you launch the program. Hover over the logo in the upper left area of the window to display information about the application. A Search feature which allows you to search for media is provided in the upper right area of the window. Depending on which screen is displayed you can directly search for content in the respective screen. The footer shows the status of current transferring and transcoding processes in a Progress display. You can pause or cancel running operations from there - just click the Cancel button. Successfully completed transfers are listed in a Notifications display. Clicking the View button opens a separate Notification Detail window which shows details of the respective transfer. Click the OK button to remove the notification from the display. Main screen The task bar above provides access to the main categories or screens you can work with in MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK. The selected entry is always highlighted. The following entries are available: Home Photos Music Displays the Home screen that combines the basic functions of MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK. It displays recently accessed contents and offers you points of entry to your media contents. Displays the Photos screen that enables you to exchange your media between your PC and your mobile phone. 10 main window Videos Store Utilities Settings Help Displays the Videos screen that enables you to exchange your media between your PC and your mobile phone. If you want others to enjoy your media files, use MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK as a posting platform for established Web sites such as YouTube for videos. Displays the Store screen that shows the newest Motorola products such as mobile phones, navigation systems and headsets. It also provides direct access to the respective area of Motorola s online store. If a device is connected to MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK the store displays only items that are compatible with the respective device. Displays the Utilities screen that provides various functions: You can check whether an updated version of MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK is available. If so the update can be downloaded from here. An upgrade from trial to full version is also available.. In addition, you can change the language of MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK here and register your handset and/or your MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK application. Displays the Settings screen where you can configure various synchronisation and display options as well as your user information for the publication of your data on the web. Displays the Help screen that provides the online help. The following button is available: Sync Opens the Sync window where you can select the content you want to synchronise now. You can also change the settings for the transfer of the data on your PC and of the data stored in your phone. 11 home screen home screen The Home screen combines the basic functions of MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK in one screen. It is automatically displayed when you launch the program. It consists of a Recent Photos area on the left, a Recent Music area in the middle of the screen and a Recent Videos area on the right side. These media panes give an overview of the recently used media files. A preview of thumbnails is available for photos and videos. You can scroll through the lists by clicking the left or right margin. 12 media screens media screens The different media screens - Photos, Music, Videos - enable you to manage and exchange the respective media between your mobile phone and PC. If you want others to enjoy your media files, use MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK as a posting platform for established Web sites such as YouTube for videos. note In the profile wizard, you can define the media storage location on your PC. Once you have provided your media you can easily exchange files between your phone and your PC. The import settings and media directories can be changed in the Settings screen ( > General category > Directories tab) at any time. The album area or playlist overview of each screen is divided into a PC list and a phone list that enables you to create, edit and manage albums or playlists on your PC and on your mobile phone separately. Clicking the New button in the footer of the album area or playlist overview opens a window where a new album or playlist can be created. note itunes or Windows Media Player can be linked to MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK. Playlists and files linked to MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK from itunes or WMP can be viewed in MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK. You can transfer playlists and single media files from the itunes or WMP lists in MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK to your handset (PC to phone). However, it is not possible to copy files from your mobile phone to the itunes or WMP playlists. The following setting options are available in the album area or playlist overview: / Eject About Displays/hides the respective list. Ensures that you can safely remove your mobile phone from your PC. MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK keeps you informed if operations still run in the background. Only available for the mobile phone list. Opens a window that shows how much storage space the contact data takes up on your mobile phone. Only available for the mobile phone list. 13 media screens photos screen The Photos screen is divided into a photo album area on the left, a photo view area in the middle of the screen and a photo detail area on the right side. You can categorise your photos by albums in the photo album area. When one of the albums is selected the respective photos are displayed in the photo view area. The photo view area in the middle of the screen can be adjusted to display either a thumbnail view or file information view. Clicking the Slideshow button in the footer of the photo view area launches a slide show which plays the photos of a selected album successively in full screen mode. The display duration of the single photos can be adjusted in the Settings screen. Player control entries are available in the context menu. Photos screen The photo detail area displays a preview of the currently selected photo as well as detailed information about it. Additional options such as deleting are available via the entries in the Options drop-down menu in the footer of the photo album area as well as in the footer of the photo view area. The following entries are available: View as List View as Thumbnail View / Edit Send via Adjusts the photo view area in the middle of the screen to display the file information view. Adjusts the photo view area in the middle of the screen to display the thumbnail view. Opens the Edit Photo window where you can use various functions for image editing. 14 media screens Rename Post to Web Remove Delete Show Info Import to Library Change Settings . Opens the Rename window where you can enter a new name for the selected photo or album. Opens the Post to Web window where you can choose a Web site (or the Web sites) to which the selected photo should be posted. It is possible to choose from several setting options such as uploading photos directly into existing albums of the online galleries. An estimated posting time based on the file size is displayed in the footer of the window. Removes the selected photo from its album, but does not delete the file. The photo is still available in All Photos. You can also remove entire albums, while their photos still remain in All Photos Deletes the selected photo or album. Opens the Group Info window that shows information about the selected album like the date of last sync, the number of included photos or the file size. Opens the Windows file manager where you can select photos to import into the album. Opens the Settings screen. Here you can define synchronisation settings between your mobile phone and MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK. See also: edit photo window 14 edit photo window In the Edit Photo window you can use various functions of image editing such as rotating your photo. 15 media screens Edit Photo window The following setting options are available: / / Slider Zoom Drop-down menu Crop Drop-down menu Proportion Red-eye Undo / Redo Drop-down menu Done Switches to the previous/next photo of the selected album. Rotates the selected photo by 90 degrees to the left/right. Zooms into or out of the displayed photo. Switches to crop mode. Arrange the displayed rectangle to the desired size and position. Then click the Apply button to cut the selected section from the photo. Allows preselecting different proportions. The rectangle will be displayed accordingly and you can move it manually to crop the desired picture detail. Removes red eyes. Drag the mouse pointer to draw a rectangle around the eye you want to edit. Undo/redo the last action. Saves the changes. 16 media screens Cancel Closes the window and returns to the Photos screen without saving. See also: photos screen 13 music screen The Music screen is divided into a playlist overview on the left, a playlist display in the middle of the screen and an audio player with track detail area on the right side. You can categorise your music by playlists in the playlist overview. When one of these playlists is selected, the respective tracks are listed in the playlist display. Music screen Select a track in the playlist display to view it in the track detail area. Detailed information about the selected file is displayed. You can play back the track from here. The following setting options are available: Navigation bar / Shows the progress of the played track. It also enables you to navigate through it. Slider Adjusts the volume. note If you open another screen in MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK while music is playing, an additional mini player window is opened for playback control. In addition, the track detail area offers the most frequently played music for playing. When MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK is able to connect to the Internet, multiple tabs are displayed with for example music from friends or albums suggested by the recommendation engine. Additional options such as deleting are available via the entries in the Options drop-down menus in the footer of the playlist overview as well as in the footer of the track detail area. The following entries are available: Get Info View as List View as Thumbnail View / Edit Rename Show Info Import To Library Change Settings Opens a window where you can edit the metadata of the currently selected track, e.g. match the genre and change the artwork. Click the Apply button to save the changes. Use the and buttons in the lower left of the window to navigate through your playlist. Adjusts the playlist display in the middle of the screen to display the file information view. You can organise the listing according to your requirements. For example clicking the Artist entry in the header sorts the tracks by artist. Adjusts the playlist display in the middle of the screen to display the thumbnail view. Opens the Edit Music window where you can use various functions of music editing. Opens the Rename window where you can enter a new name for the selected track or playlist. Opens the Group Info window that shows information about the selected playlist like the date of last sync, the number of included tracks or the file size. Opens the Windows file manager where you can select desired tracks to be imported into the playlist. Opens the Settings screen. Click the View / Edit entry in the Options drop-down menu of the Music screen to open the Edit Music window. See also: music screen 16 video screen The Videos screen is divided into a video album area on the left, the video view area in the middle of the screen and a video detail area on the right side. You can categorise your videos by albums in the video album area. When one of the video albums is selected the respective videos are displayed in the video view area. The video view area in the middle of the screen can be adjusted to display either a thumbnail view or file information view. Clicking the Full Screen button in the footer of the video view area launches a video which is currently played back in the video detail area in full screen mode. Videos screen Select a video in the video view area to display it in the video detail area. You can launch the video from here. Switches to the previous/next video of the selected album. Plays the selected video. Stops playback. Slider Adjusts the volume. Additional options such as deleting are available via the entries in the Options drop-down menus in the footer of the video album area as well as in the footer of the detail area. 23 utilities screen utilities screen MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK provides various wizard-based utilities for you to manage the essentials such as handset and software registration. MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK provides hints and clear instructions while guiding you through these wizards. The following utilities are available in the Utilities screen: Utilities screen Handset Connection Wizard Check for Updates Upgrade to Premium Version Handset Registration Opens the connection wizard which helps you to connect your phone. Opens the Software Update window where you can check whether a new version of MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK is available. If so, you can install the update directly from here. Opens the respective section of the Motorola Web site where you can upgrade to the Premium version of MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK. Not available in the Premium version of MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK. Opens the Handset Registration window. You can register your mobile device online to enjoy additional Motorola services. 23 MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK

24 utilities screen Software Registration Control Centre Handset Updates Opens the MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK Registration window. You can register your software online to enjoy additional Motorola services. Opens the Control Centre window where you can change the language of MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK. 25 settings screen settings screen The Settings screen is divided into a categories area on the left and a main settings area. Various tabs are available in the main settings area. Which tabs are available depends on the selected category. Changes are saved automatically. The following categories are available: Settings screen General Photo Music Video Web Access Displays the General Information, Directories, Prompt and Software Updates tabs. You can set up settings such as how often MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK checks for software updates here. Displays the Show And Edit, Slide Show and Photo(s) tabs. You can set up settings like the thumbnail size. Displays the Linking tab. You can link MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK to your music library. Displays the Show and Edit tab. You can set up settings such as thumbnail size. Displays the Web Access tab. You can store your account information of online services like My Nero in MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK so you do not have to log on each time that you start the application. If your mobile phone is connected to MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK, it is also displayed in the categories area. 26 transferring and synchronising transferring and synchronising changing synchronisation settings Any detail of the initial synchronisation settings that manages the transfer and linkup between the data stored on your PC and in your phone can be changed or adapted at any time. The following requirement must be fulfilled: Your mobile device is connected to the PC. To change the synchronisation settings, proceed as follows: 1. Click the Sync entry in the taskbar of the main window. The Sync window is opened with the General tab displayed. Tabs are available for general settings and the different media types. Sync window 2. Choose how often you want to synchronise. It is recommended to select the automatic synchronisation. On each of the single media tabs the check box for a transfer or media import from handset to your PC is enabled by default. MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK imports all new contents added to your handset after the last synchronisation process. 3. If you want to additionally delete transferred media from your handset after the synchronisation process, enable the Delete photos/songs/videos from handset when done check box on the respective media tab. 26 MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK

27 transferring and synchronising 4. If you want no transfer of files to your PC, disable the Always transfer new photos/songs/videos from handset to PC check box on each media tab. 5. If you want to transfer photos, songs or videos from your PC to your mobile phone, enable the check boxes of the folders to synchronise on the respective media tab. You can simply select all or choose single albums. The changes are saved automatically. You have changed the synchronisation settings. You can now directly synchronise your content. synchronising your phone data manually You can manually synchronise the data stored on your PC and the data stored in your phone at any time. The following requirement must be fulfilled: Your mobile device is connected to the PC. To manually synchronise the data and content of your mobile phone and PC, proceed as follows: 1. You can transfer playlists and single media files from the itunes or WMP lists in MOTOROLA MEDIA LINK to your handset (PC to phone). However, it is not possible to copy files from your mobile phone to the itunes or WMP playlists. 3. If you want to copy media files from your PC to your phone, drag the respective files to the name of the desired album or playlist into the phone list. You have copied the desired files from your PC to a target album or playlist on the phone. 4. If you want to copy media files from your phone to your PC, drag the respective files to the name of the desired album or playlist in the PC list.
