5 RULES AND REGULATIONS "Every class offered herein which is covered by the rules and specifications of the current USEF rule book will be conducted and judged in accordance therewith. In all classes wherein the rules of the USEF do not apply, the horse show management shall settle any dispute or question and the decision shall be final. Exhibitors and other participants herein, as a condition of admission, shall consent to such methods of settlement. GR states that: USEF MEMBERSHIP STATEMENT Life, senior active and junior active members shall be eligible to participate in all classes at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions at the Preliminary Level or above and Combined Driving Competitions at the Advanced Level, Dressage, Reining and Vaulting Competitions and Endurance Rides. A nonmember may participate as a handler, rider, driver, owner, lessee, agent, coach or trainer at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions, Dressage Competitions, Reining Competitions and Combined Driving Competitions upon payment of a $30 nonmember registration fee. Participants in the following classes are exempted from the Requirements of this rule: 1) leadline; 2) exhibitions; 3) games and races; 4) classes for 4-H members; 5) walk trot and academy classes (academy classes are classes limited to horses used regularly in a lesson program); 6) USDF introductory level tests, pas de deux and quadrille classes; 7) NRHA Endorsed Reining Competitions. 8) Opportunity classes, 9) citizens of other nations who have proof, in English, of current membership in good standing of their own National Federation, 10) USEA beginner novice division; and 11) assistant handlers in Dressage Sport Horse Breeding classes. USEF ENTRY AGREEMENT By entering a Federation-licensed Competition and signing this entry blank as the Owner, Lessee, Trainer, Manager, Agent, Coach, Driver, Rider, Handler, Vaulter or Longeur and on behalf of myself and my principals, representatives, employees and agents, I agree that I am subject to the Bylaws and Rules of USEF ( the Federation ) and the local rules of the competition I agree to be bound by the Bylaws and Rules of the Federation and of the competition. I will accept as final the decision of the Hearing Committee on any question arising under the Rules, and agree to release and hold harmless the competition, the Federation, their officials, directors and employees for any action taken under the Rules. I represent that I am eligible to enter and/or participate under the Rules, and every horse I am entering is eligible as entered. I also agree that as a condition of and in consideration of acceptance of entry, the Federation and/or the Competition may use or assign photographs, videos, audios, cablecasts, broadcasts, internet, film, new media or other likenesses of me and my horse taken during the course of the competition for the promotion, coverage or benefit of the competition, sport, or the Federation. Those likenesses shall not be used to advertise a product and they may not be used in such a way as to jeopardize amateur status. I hereby expressly and irrevocably waive and release any rights in connection with such use, including any claim to compensation, invasion of privacy, right of publicity, or to misappropriation. 6 of Federation Rules are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and any action instituted against the Federation must be filed in New York State. See GR The horse show management reserves the right to itself, to refuse, limit, accept conditionally, or to cancel any entries; disqualify any riders or exhibitors, prohibit exhibition of entries, and to cancel awarded prizes, to change any course, to cancel or combine any unfilled classes, after due notice to exhibitors, to change rings or officials, to change specifications in jumper classes as competition warrants, and to interpret all questions and conditions in regard to, or arising out of, or incident to the show without claims for damages or recourse of any kind. The show management and CKU Corporation, DBA Alpine Farms, will, in no case, be responsible for any loss, accident and/or damage that may occur to any exhibitor, spectator, guest, rider, groom, vendor, attendant, or other employee, animal or equipment at the show. It shall be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold CKU Corporation, DBA Alpine Farms, and this horse show, their directors and employees, and the officials and employees of the show blameless (whether or not such injury or loss resulted directly or indirectly from the negligent acts or omissions) for any loss or accident to himself, his/her animal(s), employee(s), or equipment. USEF rules are in force from the moment show management allows access to the show grounds. This includes conduct, correct saddlery, equipment, and attire. RESPONSIBILITY: All owners, exhibitors, and vendors shall be held responsible for any damages incurred by them, their guests, their horses or employees, to stalls, buildings and other properties on the show grounds and shall be billed accordingly. MEMBERSHIP/MEASUREMENT/& AMATEUR CARDS/AFFIDAVITS& HORSE IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS: All participants (riders, drivers, handlers, owners, trainers, coaches, agents or lessees) must present to the competition secretary a current USEF/USHJA membership card or copy thereof. All junior and pony hunters must possess and present to the horse show office, a current USEF measurement card. All amateur-owners, adult amateurs, & limit adults must present their amateur cards at the time of number pick up. To speed processing, please enclose photocopies of these cards with entries. PLEASE note horse USEF/USHJA identification number on entry blank. ENTRIES: Entry forms must be filled out completely; including all classes or divisions entered, signatures and membership numbers, and be accompanied by a check. Entries close THURSDAY JUNE 28, 2012 for the Alpine Preview. NO EXCEPTIONS! Checks made payable to Alpine Farms. POST ENTRIES: Alpine Preview entries received after THURSDAY, JUNE , will be assessed a $50.00 post entry fee. NO EXCEPTIONS. ADDS/SCRATCHES DURING SHOW: Declare all classes the day before classes are held. A Transaction Fee of $10.00 per add/scratch sheet will be charged if changes are made on the same day as the classes are held. Any entry riding in a class without having filled out the paperwork will be charged a $20.00 fee each time. 2

7 OFFICE CHARGE: An office charge of $40.00 will be assigned to each entry. MAIL ENTRIES TO: ALPINE FARMS HOMESTEAD TRAIL LONG LAKE, MN ON-LINE ENTRIES: Download a prize list at Other show info at ENTRIES ACCEPTED: Three entries, unless otherwise stated are necessary to fill a class, or the class may be declared void. The show reserves to itself the right to retain any compensation and to combine, add or limit any classes. Further, it reserves the right to do all things necessary to compensate for excessive or inadequate entries. NON-SHOWING HORSES: Non-showing horses will be charged a non-showing fee of $50 per horse except horses living at Alpine Farms. REFUNDS: Prior to arrival on the show grounds, entry fees may be refunded only upon presentation of a statement signed by a veterinarian (or medical doctor in the case or an amateur or junior rider), stating that the horse (rider) is unable to perform in the classes entered. Once the show has begun, entry fees will only be refunded by presenting a veterinary excuse to the show secretary prior to the class in which the horse (rider) was entered. No requests for refunds will be considered if veterinarian's (or doctor's excuses) are received after the class in which one wishes to scratch has been completed. Stall fees will not be refunded under any circumstances. PRIZES: Eight ribbons will be offered in every hunter, equitation and jumper class. A champion and reserve champion title will be awarded to two of the four horses acquiring the most points in each hunter and jumper section. Championships and reserves will be awarded according to GR for hunter, and jumper divisions (JP 110.2). In addition to these points, only four top hunter horses will receive full points for the under saddle class. Premium checks may be picked up at the secretary's office after the bill has been paid in full. Premiums can be subtracted from payment due. PAYMENT OF FEES: All fees must be paid by the end of the horse show. Anyone leaving the show grounds without full payment of fees will be subject to USEF suspension and a $50 check out fee from competition management. Any mistakes at check out must be resolved within 24 hours. RETURNED CHECKS: There will be a $50.00 office charge for any checks returned to the show office by a bank for any reason. No check will be processed through a second time. To retain entries, both entry fees and penalties must be paid by money order, cashier's check or cash. In the event a check is returned, it will be handled in accordance with USEF rules. PARENTS & PROFESSIONALS- IF PARENT IS NOT ACCOMPANYING JUNIOR, PLEASE SEND PERMISSION FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT (INSURANCE # & RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CARE) WITH THE TRAINER OR RESPONSIBLE ADULT. EXHIBITOR NUMBER WILL NOT BE ISSUED UNTIL ENTRY FORMS ARE CORRECTLY AND COMPLETELY FILLED OUT AND ARRANGEMENT FOR PAYMENT IS COMPLETED. 3

8 PROTESTS: Any USEF member exhibitor lodging a protest must first deposit $ with any member of the show committee, the show manager, or show secretary, which sum shall be forfeited if same is not sustained (non-member fee is $300). All protests must be made in writing, signed by the protester, and filed with any member of the show committee, the show manager the show secretary, or The Federation Hearing Committee within 48 hours of the alleged violation. If the protest is sustained the entries standing next in award will be moved up accordingly. See GR 603. STABLING: Most stabling will be temporary stalls. Stall doors are provided. The cost will be $ per stall. ($ overnight & $50/day stall). Include stall requests when completing entry blank. Payment of stall fees must accompany entry fees and are not refundable. Call Leslie Borg ( ) for stall reservations-stalls are available for occupancy Wednesday, July 11, 2012 and must be vacated no later than Monday morning, July 16, 2012 unless horses are competing the following week in the Alpine Equestrian Fest. Stall reservations must be received and paid for by June 28, SCHOOLING: There will be no schooling in the sand show ring at any time prior to the start of the show. In the sand ring, exhibitors may hack horses (no jumping) before 7:30 a.m. AT MANAGEMETNS DISCRETION POLING: NO MANUAL POLING OR OFFSETS ALLOWED ON ALPINE SHOWGROUNDS. STARTERS, JUMP ORDERS AND CONFLICTS: A rotating jump order will, at management s direction, be established for jumping classes. Rings will not be held to wait for horses and/or riders. Riders who anticipate a conflict must arrange their order of go so as to avoid causing a delay. Trainer conflicts will not be recognized. Starters have the authority to scratch riders who are untimely. Without going through the Steward or Show Manager. TURNOUT PADDOCKS: A limited number of paddocks are available. The cost is $ and must be paid in advance. Paddocks will be assigned on a first paid, first served basis. GOLF CARTS AND MOTORIZED VEHICLES: USEF Rule Minors who do not have a valid driver s license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in th state in which they reside will not be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind including, but no limited to, golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm utility vehicles on the competition grounds of licensed competitions. Minors who have a valid temporary license may operate the above described motorized vehicles as long as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid driver s license. The parent(s), legal guardian(s), or individual who signs the entry blank as a parent or guardian of a minor operating a motorized vehicle in violation of this rule are solely responsible for any damages, claims, losses or actions resulting from that operation. Violations of this rule will be cause for sanctions against the parent(s) and/or trainer(s) who are responsible for the child committing the offense. Penalties may include exclusion of the child, parent(s), guardian(s), and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds for the remainder 4

9 of the competition and charges being filed against any of the above individuals in accordance with Chapter 6. Wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices for individuals with disabilities are exempt from this rule. SPLIT SECTIONS: Any section with 50 or more entries at the beginning of the first class will be divided and prize money doubled. DOGS: The USEF dog rule is as follows: USEF GR Dogs are not permitted to be loose on the competition grounds and must be on a leash or otherwise contained. Individuals must not lead dogs on a leash while mounted. Dog Owners are soley responsible for any damages, claims, losses, or actions resulting from their dogs behavior. Dog Owners failing to comply with this rule may be subject to penalty under Chapters 6 & 7. This will be strictly enforced. The owner of any dog which disrupts a competitor s round in the ring will be required to reimburse said competitor for their entry fees for the entire division. ATTIRE: Riders must be neatly attired when competing. ALL riders must wear protective headgear while riding anywhere on the show grounds. All junior riders must wear protective headgear with harness secured when riding. Refer to GR 801. It is compulsory for riders in all Hunter, Jumper and Hunt Seat Equitation classes, and Paso Fino classes, both open and breed restricted including Hunter Hack, where jumping is required and when jumping anywhere on the competition grounds, to wear properly fastened protective headgear which meets or exceeds ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)/SEI (Safety Equipment Institute standards for equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. It must be properly fitted with harness secured. A show Committee must bar riders without protective headgear from entering the ring for classes in which protective headgear is required and may bar any entry or person from entering the ring if not suitably presented to appear before an audience. DESCRIPTION OF COURSES: Hunter fences shall generally simulate obstacles found in the hunting field, such as natural post and rail, brush, stone wall, white board fence, or gate, chicken coop, aiken, hedge, offset oxer, etc. Jumper courses may consist of any combination of the following: brush, oxers, gates post and rails, triple bars, walls panels, coops, hogsback and the like. COURTESY CIRCLE: In all classes, the courtesy circle may be restricted and will be indicated on the course diagram and a corresponding barrier will be erected and announced at least one hour prior to the class. TIES IN JUMPER CLASSES: Ties for other than first place in jumper classes will be decided on the basis of faults and time in the first round. ANIMAL WELFARE: Any rider or trainer who, in the opinion of the judges or management, uses his/her whip or spurs in an excessive manner will be immediately eliminated from the class where the incident occurred, be suspended from further showing for a twenty-four hour period and will forfeit all entry fees and prize money for that class. Further violation by the exhibitor on the same horse or another horse will result in said exhibitor being barred from any further competitions at this show. All incidents will be reported by the USEF steward to the USEF for possible further investigations. 5

A horse that receives a 1 st Year Green Reinstatement may return to Pre-Green if it is otherwise eligible. Fences not to exceed 3 or 3 3. A horse s Pre-Green Status is not affected by showing as a three-year old. Classes may be divided by height section 3 an 3 3. You may not show in both height sections at the same competition. 14 CHILDREN'S HUNTER HORSE Open to horses ridden by junior exhibitors. To be judged on performance and soundness with emphasis on manners. Extreme speed will be penalized. Fence heights will not to exceed 3. Spreads will not to exceed the height of the fence. Horses are not required to be jogged for soundness. Horse/rider combinations entered in this division may not cross enter into the Junior Hunter Division at the same show, unless it is the rider s first year of showing in the Junior Division. Riders entered in the Children s Hunter may not cross enter, at the same show, in classes in which the jumps exceed 3 6. If entries warrant, the Children s Hunter Division will be split by age between 13 and Under and ,54 Children s Hunter Horse 55 $70 Children s Hunter Horse Stake 56 Children s Hunter Horse Under Saddle CHILDREN S HUNTER PONY Open to ponies ridden by a Junior Exhibitor. To be judged on performance, soundness, manners, way of going, size of rider to mount and suitability as a Children s Hunter Pony. To be offered at two fence heights: 2 for small and medium ponies and 2 6 for large ponies. Ponies need not be jogged. USEF Amateur certification required. Ponies are eligible, with suitability to count. Riders can cross enter between the Amateur Owner 3 3 and 3 6, but horses may not cross enter between the Adult Amateur and Amateur Owner Hunter sections at the same show. Riders in the Adult Amateur section may ride a different horse in the Amateur Owner section, and may ride in any section for which they are eligible at the same show. To be judged on performance, soundness and suitability. Fence heights not to exceed 3, spreads must not exceed the fence height. Entries not to jog for soundness. To be offered in three age groups-18-35,36-49 and 50 and over. Zone awards will be offered in all 3 age groups. Open to riders who have not won six (6) first place ribbons over fences 3 or higher at any USEF/EC recognized competition, including equitation, in the last six (6) years. A rider who is eligible as of December 1 shall retain their eligibility for the entire year, regardless of ribbons won. Horse/Rider combinations entered in Limit Adult may not cross enter into Low Amateur Hunter classes or any class where the height of fences exceeds 3. Riders may, however, enter into the Low Amateur Hunter on a different mount. To be judged on performance and soundness, with emphasis on manners. Not to jog for ribbons. Height of Fences ,77 Limit Adult Hunter Over Fences 80 Limit Adult Hunter Under Saddle LIMIT CHILDREN S HUNTER Open to horses and ponies ridden by junior riders who have not won more than six first place ribbons over fences 3 or higher at a USEF/EC recognized competition, including equitation. First place ribbons won in USEF Pony Hunter sections not to count. A rider who is eligible as of December 1 st shall retain his/her eligibility throughout the entire show year regardless of ribbons won. To be judged on performance and soundness, with emphasis on manners. Not to jog for ribbons. Fences not to exceed ,82,83 Limit Children s Hunter Over Fences 84 Limit Children s Hunter Under Saddle LOW AMATEUR HUNTER Open to amateur riders no longer eligible to compete as a junior exhibitor. Amateur certification required. Horse/Rider combinations entered in Low Amateur may not cross enter into Limit Adult, or into classes where the height of the fences exceeds 3 6. Riders may, if otherwise qualified, enter the Limit Adult on a different mount. Riders may also enter classes where the height of fences exceeds 3 6 on another mount. 24 OPPORTUNITY JUMPER Open to both Junior and Adult riders. $20.00 Per Class 141 Opportunity Jumper, Table IV, Sec m Opportunity Jumper, Table IV, 2.b --.7m 2 3 HORSE REGISTRATION NUMBERS All horses competing in Federation non breed restricted licensed competitions with hunter, hunter breeding, jumper and hunter seat equitation classes (except those activities enumerated in GR 901.9, items 1-9) must be properly identified and must obtain a Registration Number from the USHJA. A registration number for each horse must be entered on all entry forms for licensed competitions. Only one Horse Registration Number will be issued per horse, and must remain with the horse throughout its career. Anyone knowingly applying for a duplicate Registration Number for an individual horse may be subject to disciplinary action. Owners are requested to notify the Federation and/or the USHJA as applicable of corrections to previously submitted information, e.g., names, addresses, breed registration, pedigree, or markings.
